Anderson Silva or Jon Jones
Mike Tyson or Muhammad Ali
Almost every list ever made puts Pele as the greatest player of all time. Quit being an idiot.
Depends on the test. On tests designed by white people maybe, but probably on fairer tests black people score the same or higher. I can guarantee you black people have a much higher EQ. Look how many black geniuses there are in the music industry, they have totally dominated it for the last 50 years, and music is one of the most cerebral things you can do.
>Anderson Silva or Jon Jones
Bas Rutten was more of a striker than jon jones and anderson was like mike tyson fighting cans until weidmen came and suddenly the middleweight division started getting more stars like luke rockhold , gegard etc...
GOATs don't have to be likeable, this isn't your pussy sport
>Maradona wins internet player of the century vote
>FIFA gets assblasted and decides to give it to Pele anyway
>All say Maradona was GOAT
Pele is the GOAT at making commercials trying to sell shit
Great white OATS
lel, I don't know and who gives a fuck, but I am certain he is white
Joe Montana, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Dan Marino, John Elway, Steve Young, Brett Farvre are all white. However Barry Sanders, Emmett Smith and OJ Simpson are all black.
>Swimming / olympics general
Pele is a legend. You are a fucking idiot. Name one other player who could score from halfway across the field like Pele did. That takes an insane amount of talent. A Messi or a Maradona can't hold a candle to that, they are just the flavor of the month.
Just because something has been said over and over again for 50 years don't make it a fact.
Both those guys in their prime would get rekt by the most average of today.
Pele is considered a god because he was on a strong team and he got the most celebrity by showing his face everywhere and making a name for himself.
Ali is just known for shit-talking.
They were both good, but far from the GOAT
>fought in tougher competitions and no rules ufc era
>bigger and more experienced opponents
>undefeated throughout career
>practically created the liver shot and popularized body shots in the mma which fighters in the ufc to this day still dont take advantage of
I'll the opinion of footballing legends to that of some assblasted kids on 4chan
Messi proved a little guy like Maradona wreck today
Meanwhile Pele would get schooled in the championship
Thank you Messi
this is probably the most casual opinion I have evr seen on /sp/
way to how that you know absolutely nothing and are probably just parrotting something you heard on Joe Rogan's podcast
>fought in tougher competitions and no rules
Pfft, when Bas fought they weren't even allowed to hit each other with a closed fist, had to slap each other like pussies.
>Invented punching people in the body
Ok, you're an idiot.
definitely (pic related)
yah, probably pele
Kareem or MJ
Ali, Tyson, or Robinson. Mayweather a shit
Tiger or Palmer
>track and Field
Montana, Rice, Walter Peyton, Sanders, Lott, and Bo jackson
Babe Ruth, Ty cobb, Mickey mantle, and Ted Williams
Doubtful, Joe Rogan literally jacks off to Anderson Silva. Even when Silva isn't fighting Rogan still won't shut up about how amazing he is. Fight between Diaz and Cerrone "Nobody can box like Nick Diaz, except maybe Anderson Silva, but Silva is a ninja". It never ends.
I seriously can't find it, but there are loads by other players.
Anyway, a goal from half-way is more indicative of a shitty GK sleeping on the job rather than the talent of the kicker.
>far more accurate representation of typical nfl player
Dirty nigger. Even in the 80's he'd have sucked. When he was in his prime the game was slow as fuck and no one even tried to get to him. Also let's just say he'd fit on /tv/ perfectly
Are there people who actually believe that Pelé is not the GOAT of football?
Just racists who can't accept the fact a black man was the greatest of all time at a sport they take refuge in being "predominantly white".
Let's all perform a thought experiment. Let's consider Wendell Sailor with NFL pads and helmet tackling Richard Sherman, or the other way around, Sherman in rugby kit tackling Sailor.
Who gets BTFO?
Any young player can score from there with a goalkeeper in the box, you're retarded if you think otherwise. It takes zero skill and it is almost a cliche in crappy games (like most games Pele was playing in). Search "goalkeeper scoring goal" on YouTube and you'll even see goals scored from the other side of the field... I saw dozens of these in my life, as a spectator and as a player.
Maradona is widely recognized as GOAT by actual players. Pele's a piece of shit dumb ape who only cared about money. Even your idols like Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Romario, etc. have never even acknowledged Pele and agree that Maradona is the GOAT
But you have to take into account that NFL players are trained to do one thing only, whether it be running, tackling, blocking, throwing, kicking, etc. Rugby for the most part have to do a bit of it all, so you have to skip on the mass to be able to run fast enough.
Comparing is dumb.
Daily reminder that Tiger will never win another major and thus has no shot at dethroning the true GOAT
Regarding Pele, how can you be GOAT without having played for any European club? And it was a long time ago. Game was slow and soft, it had 5 forwards for 2 players in defense, and the images aren't impressive at all... Pele is overrated, early Ronaldo would have been ten times better than that in the 60's.
By Santos and Cosmos:
>2 World Tournaments
Look at the facts, bro.
Keep bragging about how people say that Maradona is the best, it will never be statistics.
TOMORROW HUE BRO TOMORROW

it's gonna be a 2 in 1 thread

Almost every top football manager agrees that Messi is GOAT.
Gah, all the people who watched Pele play think he was the GOAT. Now those people are retiring/dying off, so the guys who watched Maradona play think he was better than Pele.In twenty years, it'll be the same with Messi.
No one will ever replicate what Pele did in terms of the World Cup, or likely his goalscoring record, even if you want to pick holes in that, so he has to be in the conversation, even if he is a bit of a bellend (>implying Maradona isn't a bigger one)
True, Maradona was the soul of his team, the needed one, the man who writes history all alone... while Santos and Brazil were fine without Pele. Look at Intercontinental Cup 1963: no Pele, but Santos crushes AC Milan twice in Rio. Now go imagine Napoli or Argentina without Maradona. It's like a body without its heart.
Just Fontaine gets plenty of accolades fro his goals in '58, but he didn't score the winner in the QF, a hat-trick in the SF and two in the final. At the age of 17. Like I say, no one will ever match that; Pele just exists in a different stratosphere to everyone else in the WC.
And like I said, you can pick holes in his goalscoirng record if you want, but it's still unmatched, both in modern times and n his own era, so he must have been doing something right.
>being so ignorant in that Euro teams were more or less equal to SA teams in the 60s
The athleticism is ridicuously exaggerated as well
Pele was incredible on his own, basing him off his teammates is total disrespect to Pele and the sport
Wilimowski is the unknown GOAT
>scored four goals against Brazil on 1938 World Cup
>21 goals in 22 matches for Poland
>13 in 8 for Germany
>112 in 86 for Ruch Chorzów
>1175 goals total
>played hockey competively
>scored 10 (ten) goals in one match in Ekstraklasa
Greatest Of All Time
You're completely right, I apologize. But,
I wonder if those players would be as good as they were if other races were allowed to play in the same league. Just like people saying pele isn't the best because he didn't play in Europe. He proved them wrong since he won 3 world cups playing against some of the best euro teams.
>Because 4-timing a championship because of your team and not caring about your teammate makes you good at f1.
You're fucking retarded.
I'd rather chose Jean Alesi over Vettel any day.
You're right. Beckenbauer is an exception, but then he got as much acclaim for his attacking work as his defensive work.
If he was just a straight up defender and not a revolutionary, he'd just be Moore/Baresi/Maldini/etc-tier.
True he was injured in 62 and Garrincha became a legend in that one. Thats one tho. He shone in 58 and in 70 the whole squad was just on another level. And he played before pks and red cards. He got no protection like todays playere and couldve score tons more goals
As great as Zizou was he was not on O Rei's level
I'm an American, and even I know that Gretsky is the greatest hockey player, by far. there is zero comparison. In fact Gretsky may be the most dominant athlete ever, considering all great athletes and their respective sports.
>"I told myself before the game, 'he's made of skin and bones just like everyone else'. But I was wrong.”
Tarcisio Burgnich, the Italy defender who marked Pele in the Mexico 1970 Final
>“The greatest player in history was Di Stefano. I refuse to classify Pele as a player. He was above that.”
>“When I saw Pele play, it made me feel I should hang up my boots.”
>“You may be right. But you know nothing about football and I’ve seen Pele play.”
Vicente Feola to the psychologist who said Pele was too immature to play at Sweden 1958
>“Pele was the only footballer who surpassed the boundaries of logic.”
>“I sometimes feel as though football was invented for this magical player.”
Sir Bobby Charlton
Do we only look at stats, or do we also have to consider how good/athletic/talented a person was?
For example, Tom Brady is up there (I don't think he's actual QB GOAT), but Dan Marino is without a doubt a more complete/better qb, he just doesn't have the wins/actual resume to back up being the GOAT other than his stats.
Same thing in hockey, I understand why Gretzky's the obvious GOAT but even he would tell you that Lemieux is easily the most skilled/talented without looking at stats/championships etc.
Is there a certain benchmark for actual numbers/records to be reached where actually skill/talent can supplant someone with more championships etc?
>Pele over Maradona
As much as I may despise Argentina, anyone thinking Pele is better than Diego is an innocent guy brainwashed by FIFA's jewery.
First of all, Pelé's stats were never confirmed and most people suggest that they count goals since he started playing footy in a park.
Second, Pelé always had a team to rely on. Tostao, Rivelino, Zagallo, Jairzinho, Didí, Garrincha, Carlos Alberto... yet when it was his time to lead the team (England '66) he pussied out of it. Nigga wasn't even a man to wear the captain's armband.
Third, Pelé whole function in the game relied on getting assists from playmakers. He couldn't generate any game on his own.
Fourth, the nigger never tested himself in Europe, and when he became a greedy nigger he went to fucking USA.
Maradona symbolizes the entire opposite. He's the living incarnation of the one-man, heroic man, team. He excelled in pretty much any club he played, and his whole figure was extremely moralizing. He was the true playmaker, and until this day, and probably forever, he'll be recognized as the only player who won a World Cup on his own. Diego was a star in Barça and chose to move to the poor team of Napoli, just because, in his words: "They feel football the same way I feel it". He didn't only brought the team to glory, it was also a extremely social change about the rich northern Italy (Inter, Juventus, Milan) playing against the working, humble people of the south, who found in Maradona a hero that represented the values of true passion for the game and your colours, making money a dull thing.
EVERYTHING about Maradona's life is poetic. I don't like the fact that he became a cocaine addict, nor I'd start rooting for Argentina because of him, but the legacy he left us and his whole career, carrying ANY team in his back while giving his best, puts him beyond any other player that will ever live.

Lennox Lewis, Roy Jones Jr, Joe Calzaghe, Sugar Ray Leonard
Don't forget the Brazilian Rinaldo in the 90's
You have to include Lesnar, Cotoure and Lidell
Don't forget Michael Johnson
I like you
also, not only he won a WC on his own, even 2 scudettos against GOAT Milan and GOAT Juve, ON HIS OWN
Begkamp was a much better footballer than Pelle and could do things with the ball that huehue couldn't even dream off. Fuck the whole overrated ETERNAL GOAT NO ONE CAN COMPARE seventies generation (yes including muh Cruijff).
Also it's frightening to see how cuckold America really is.
