General Discussion

You don't have to following these guidelines, it's just a suggestion, just post some content so other anons get to know you.
This is a meet-up board after all.

This isn't exactly a rate thread but if that is truly what you seek OP will deliver. R8 others if you're into it.
Let's try to be civil, last couple threads were pretty good.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJSoec3r-EI

Maintaining consistency, love all you guys.

Been drinking some wine. Today was a good day, I got Mew on Pokemon Y and Alpha Sapphire. Was boring as hell soft resetting for them for decent natures though, especially for the second Mew.
Just watched Sherlock s3 ep.2.

Yeh it was a work of art but anon we already had this conversation :p
I don't watch too many films, I've seen all the ones I wanted to see so far and not in a film mood recently to replay ones I do like.... so it might be The Revenant for a long ass time!
I pre-ordered Rebuild of Evangelion 3 though, I've waited like 3 years to watch it on Blu-ray lol. I think it's out this month.

>>
>>23260752
Hideaki Anno is busy with his Godzilla movie, so it's gonna be a while I bet.
Either way, I'm glad I waited 3 years to watch it because if it's another 3 years before the next one even gets released in Japan then ultimately that means it will be 9 years I will have waited between watching each film.

Honestly I liked the "End of Evangelion" better than I actually liked the series ending, I mean I appreciate it for revealing it's general theme as the ending, instead of the fight scene. I liked that, but I just thought the End of Evengelion tied it up for the movies. T B H F A M I L I A

>>
>>23260836
Absolutely. End of Evangelion is a masterpiece and there's no taking away from that but personally, despite their criticism I like the Rebuild films because it's something fresh and different into the franchise and dude on Blu-ray, they're the bomb audio/visually.
I'd like to see End of Evangelion get some kind of HD treatment desu, if only for the better audio, imagine this scene in better quality audio, not limited by dvd audio.

No similarities. Just separating the dark and weird category from the neo noir category.

step 1 - take a theme
example : clothing, food, music, design, etc...

step 2 - strip it to the minimum, take everything useless or just decorative out of it
example: clothing- 1 piece of fabric, food- 1 ingredient, 1 simple sound + beat, design - a strait line, etc ...

step 3 - add a Random thing to it, try to find something that nobody tought about already and the more random the better
example : clothing - wacky shapes, food - glowing chemicals, music - random noise or word, design - a strait line on the mona lisa, etc...

and voila...

or juste do like everybody and be a hipster

>in hindsight, my great grandmother was pretty fucked up
>eventually fall into an uneasy sleep, suddenly wake up but can't move
>huge picture of Jesus on wall starts moving and making his way down

>I'm terrified, it keeps getting closer until it's over me

No way Leo is going to win an Oscar for that film. Yeah he was good in it, not a lot of dialogue, but there is a huge difference between emotional range and just sneering and crawling. Besides, Leo is only good at fits of rage when it comes to acting. Other emotions he does alright. There's a reason home boy hasn't won an Oscar yet.

i didnt say the departed, he also produced red riding hood and that movie was shit, im not sayin he should get producer of the year for it, every actor has made a shit movie or two at some point, but we need to judge em for only one.
you cant expect him to be happy sad thrilled angry and all other emotional spectrum feels in a single flick.

Yeah, I'm saying that little to no dialogue really brings out an actors experience.

Look at Under the Skin, one of Scarlett Johanssons best roles.

that movie proves that a good villain is far more entretaining than a good main lead.

I honestly can't remember what my last convo was. But I saw someone mentioned Oldboy, which is /sort of/ interesting. Have you watched it? Honestly, despite how it was visually appealing and had le ebin plot twist, I felt like I wasted my time watching it.

I'd actually be surprised if you've heard of Friend. It's definitely not a cult classic like Oldboy. In Korea, it was basically like The Godfather. In fact, it's actually based on real gangs and is partly historical fiction, but mostly just a coming of age movie that's not pretentious at all, probably because the director wrote the screenplay and it was partly autobiographical so the characters really felt like real people to me. Also, my family grew up in Busan like the characters, so it feels really familiar. I think it's worth watching. Idk I've never shared it with anyone before.

Anyway did you see that other chat thread with the race flame war? Quality thread lol
>>
>>23263295
Lol what no, the one with the girl OP?
gonna probably read through it.

The reason it sounds familiar is because my brother usually recommends me this really obscure but quality foreign films and I think I have it torrented. I'll have to watch it. Old Boy might be one of my favorite movies though honestly. I watched it years ago and it's what got me into films honestly.

Still lurking in Bottomless Pit threads for some Andy cock tease's but I'm gonna lurk on that race war.

Oh dude if you're into those films, then definitely check out this one: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2070649/. My brother showed it to me a couple of weeks ago and it blew me away. I was surprised too because my bro is a year younger than me and seems so innocent while the movie basically depicts systemic child abuse that happened irl. I was like YO WTF but damn it was so well made and the child actors were unbelievably believable.

I gotta check out this whole DG thing. Even though I don't really enjoy listening to their stuff, they're too interesting not to follow.

>>23263295
old boy was overrated, both the manga and the movies. i think it just got popular because of le ebin plot twist you mentioned.

>>23262993
>why is it that i feel like a lazy fuck

i feel like this a lot and it's usually because i feel like i need to be accomplishing more than i am. just take a second and make a list of things you can do right now and things that will take time to accomplish. i usually get my own lists mixed up and get overwhelmed, so you might be doing the same when in reality there's not much you can do atm, if that makes sense.

try doing small things though, laundry, cleaning, walking, etc, it helps give a sense of accomplishment.

most of the snapchat or kik threads i've seen on /soc/ are a bunch of really awkward people and one or two girls with big egos that talk shit or flash their boobs maybe once. everyone spends the next few hours waiting for another boob flash, and in between everyone just spouts memes. only fun one was a guy that used to post boku no pico and speed it up super fast while playing the benny hill them in the back ground https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MK6TXMsvgQg
>>
>>23264172
I wouldn't worry about fake profiles on there, we delete them pretty frequently, up the radius on your search filter f a m.

I've had decent success with talking to people on that site but I only came close to meeting a girl once. Everytime the meetup is proposed I flake hard. Fuck this gay earth.
>>
>>23264173
goddamn you must've shattered that shit. what kind of job did you get? (can't remember if I asked already or not, I usually go into a drunken sleep in the middle of these threads lel)

Also I usually frequent that site when I'm neet, inbetween jobs, shits embarrassing.

Cheers

>>23264239
>H A A R P
>>
>>23264159
like i said, it's not bad, just over rated. only reason i say that is because i know a lot of 'film critics' that claim it's art. i think maybe they ruined it for me, same with wetlands and blue is the warmest color. i don't know what it is about those movies but all the film critics i know LOVE them

>>23264174
i have the pleasure of going another 3 years since i was an idort and went to college late. better late than never, i guess. hopefully your job goes by better tomorrow!

>>23264146
that would be awesome, i'm normally not a big kpop fan either but lately my coworker has been playing it on the radio and i've had it stuck in my head, haha.

and i'm glad someone else agrees and i'm not just going crazy. i'm sure it probably has something to do with summer kids not flocking here atm.

>>23264172
then i would say she's definitely real. some people like to leave their profiles a little vague since they're not too sure about the site or have no idea how to go about it. anyways, keep at it with this girl and good luck, anon.
>>
>>23264245
Glad to see a fellow awakened truther. Never really meet people who know this stuff so how has it affected your relationships in your life?
>>
>>23264188
shit, i know that feeling so badly. i usually want to meet up with people and then when the time gets closer i freak out and find a way to flake.

try bringing your social anxiety up with them? also, the place you guys meet up is important. try meeting up somewhere you've been before, so you can recommend stuff to her or talk to her about things, and aren't completely lost. it'll help make you feel a lot more comfortable. at least that's what works for me when i'm finally able to convince myself out of the house, haha.
>>
>>23264245
>shits embarrassing.
Well every girl you're talking to on that site is also literally on that site as well so I wouldn't feel bad about it

Also do you guys delete profiles soliciting sex? A girl messaged me about having cam sex for money. Granted I don't think that's ban or deletion worthy but it sounds like a scam that would lead to some kind of actual scam meet up
>>
>>23264111
You ever use it? Or have had any success with online meet-ups?

>>23264248
Yeah I can agree with critics over hyping something, It's a favorite of mine because when I watched it as a lad it really got me into film, also ambiguous endings really get my rocks off.

>>

Woah there. Why so extreme? I can understand to a point sheep piss me off but we are all human and still require humanly desires no matter how awake or asleep you may be.
>>
>>23264272
Nah embarrassing that I don't have a job at the time.

Profiles like that don't last long, I've very rarely gotten those messages, but there are profiles being deleted constantly. Don't fall into the scam trap, it's pretty easy to detect fake profiles, people aren't very clever.

>>23264269
>I feel it too anon
Talking for a while usually makes it more comfortable, that is solid advice though.
Usually talk to equally socially awkward types since my profile is bretty pretentious honestly.

>>23264287
wouldn't worry too much about that outside of POF and craigslist, son

>>23264297
was mainly joking.
I'm more into pointing out the flaws in capitalism for my alienation, doggo
>>
>>23264331
Thanks mod anon
>>
>>23264287
that won't happen if you guys go to an area that you're familiar with, meet up in an open area with lots of people around. also, i guess it goes without saying to always carry a pocket knife with you. i have the same fears too, just remember that the girl is most likely on the site because she really wants to meet someone too.

if things go good, try asking her to skype, that might help a bit to put your nerves about who she is at ease. that's usually what i do so i don't have to worry about the same thing and i've never been hurt. i've gotten stalked, but that's a different story, lol.

>>23264275
i've used a few different things but usually get too busy to follow through, although i've met some pretty great people, both through OKC and on here. only one successful meetup but i screwed it up because for some reason i'm great at meeting people but then the stress of keeping up the relationship gets to me and i flake.

>>23264225
this is freaking adorable, and catchy, i like it.
>tfw you will never be a qt korean pop star
>>
>>23264331
Ebin, I see. I guess it's made me really read into people when I talk to them and so forth more so then I use to. Doesn't help I'm a very visual person. My mother though, god damn she acts like I'm some internet brain washed kid who can't think for himself which pisses me off so much so we usually fight when it comes to anything outside of stupid normie shit.
>>
>>23264340
anything for anons
watch out for when the profile was created, the amount of questions asked, pics and such
you should have a relatively easy time navigating the site
god speed
>>
>>23264341
> the stress of keeping up the relationship gets to me and i flake.
Why do we chose to continue to live ;__;
I'm the same way except I usually start to flake through the conversation process, before even meeting up. IDK
Also the kind of girls I like don't usually like me, so, there's that.

>>23264345

As a guy, I think it's more difficult to get results from any online dating platforms unless you're a 10/10 Chad, but your best bet is probably through okcupid and tinder. Your advice sounds like what my therapists have told me. I do maintain a list and it helps a little, especially because I check off things like eating a meal and then drinking 16oz of water as well as exercising and practicing music, but some days like today I just waste time on the computer all day. I think things will be easier when I start working. Structure seems to help me stay on top of things. Too much free time makes me depressed. :/
>stepmania
FINALLY. That's awesome. I've never had the chance to play Osu, but I was also obsessed with Pump It Up, which my sister still plays somewhat competitively in her free time. We'd hit up the arcade so much back then. Anyway, what were some of your favorite charts/artists to play on SM? I was obsessed with Dragonforce (kek), The Flashbulb, Venetian Snares, KgZ, OSTER Project, DJ Sharpnel. Do you know any of them? I think the SM community on flashflashrevolution was a lot different than the regular SM crowd.
Also, did you see that recent viral video of Staian playing SM at AGDQ?

I'd agree. It's probably easier here than in the USA though because my classmates are pretty liberal do its relatively easy to agitate them. Besides that I couldn't even handle a person that completely disagrees with me morally and socially so it's important for me to discuss it. A tip: join a political organization. It's quality time man, you can circlejerk about capitalism when you're bored and otherwise you can be productive but as a collective which is a lot more fun.

If someone comes aroud with a bad vibes can he break you better "reallity"

Don't take me wrong, I'm am not mocking you. actually where i live there are a lot of people that belive it that sort of thing, even so close friend of mine. but I never really could understand, I find there version of reality is false and taht they blind them self to a part of the world.

But I do want to understand more and one of my fav saying is

-reality is perception & perception is subjective

so who know maybe i'm getting everything wrong
>>
>>23265021
Thanks for not being a dick about it :). Umm nah because I am pretty unswayed by the general public and only let those close to me effect my vibes. If a person has bad vibes I just avoid them or try to understand them. I agree with you, reality is perception. But I'm not sure that I would say that finding your own truth is to blind yourself. I'd say that closing off your mind to there being anymore to life than what you are told to believe or even that what is real is only what is perceived by our very limited 5 senses. Perhaps you can not unsterstand it because it's something that you have to feel resonate deep inside of you and when you do you start to find the small coincidences in life that make all of your friend's hippie rambling make sense. I can not tell you what is right, just as you can not tell me what is wrong but I encourage you to dig deeper. Sometimes we attach ourselves to these ideals and reject any that are unfamiliar but it doesn't hurt to educate yourself and grow
>>
>>23265077
thx for your aswer i find it very intersting

> it doesn't hurt to educate yourself and grow
That something I'm 100% with you on, and
>I encourage you to dig deeper
I will, not enought people do this and they should,it would make les idiot.

Now when I say that
>they blind them self to a part of the world.
you kind of confirm it by saying
>If a person has bad vibes I just avoid them or try to understand them.
I see my friend that live in there community, and it work perfectly from there trade base economy to there style of everyday life and it is in that way that i feel taht a bit of me is like them. But it's when i see them trying to interact with the rest of the world that i see them struggle , money dosn't flow and even if they need a very small amonut they still need it, I see them loose respect to the people who have a "real job" (as they say even if there life suck)
And i work in art so I'm have to face the same probleme but i overcome them by not being always positive and nice.
I don't belive we can only be good in this world an I do try to understand the people wiith negative vibes but only yo get pass them with more neg vibes
And like you say
>I believe that even in you only have good intentions, black magic and white work hand in hand
(maybe I'm twisting the sense of this line)

Now i do belive I am a good person (could be wrong) but that the worls is not black and wight, but that everything are shades of grey and sometimes bad need to happen for the good to come out.

fuck,did i wright all this

I agree with you again! I guess I emphasis how we need to project positive energy so much because I just feel like as a whole consciousness there isn't enough kindness or love. I am human and am not a source of undying positive vibes, at many times in my life I can honestly say I have been consumed by the negatives. If we were only good we'd be very boring lmao. Yes, it is like yin and yang. both energies must exist.
I get cha, I struggle with that too. Most people disregard my word. It's hard not being present in the mass thought process but ultimately I have been homeless and I have been rich. I do not lose respect for those around me for living their lives on the path they choose. But as for me I will not let money and material items run my life. I acknowledge these necessary evils like money and government, I even work a 9-5 in an office that makes me wanna blow my brains out and vote but I don't let them control my life... If that makes sense

>tfw you used to be a social venomoth
I know that feel. Although it was more like a small circle of friends where people liked me and actually looked to me for advice and ideas a fair amount. I'm in boring ass CT, and not even near the coast. I moved here last year and I used to live in MN so all the friends I painstakingly accumulated over the years are now living it up and forgetting about me. Now I'm a fucking social caterpie and just follow whoever notices me at my community college. I used to be open and comfortable about my thoughts, but now I'm back to being that quiet kid who doesn't wanna say anything in fear of being singled out by the cliques I'm not part of.
>SIGH
It's slowly getting better. The guys in my music class seem to like me. After my first day in that class, the most experienced guys gathered outside in a group to smoke by the door and I just avoided making eye contact and tried to sneak away to my car, but then one of them was very sincerely like "hey man I'm looking forward to jamming with you, seeya later!" and I was so surprised that all I could mutter was "c-cool, anon." lol (didn't actually say anon)

I'm also feeling like a scumlard with my hair. I haven't showered in 3 days and my hair smells so strong that I can't really handle it when it's in front my face. Haven't brushed yet either. Will do both right before I leave for class this evening. :l

SHINee is one of my absolute favorites, glad to know /mu/ likes some good bands. thank you again, i haven't listened to a bunch of these, since i have a habit of listening to songs over and over and never really branching out to a bands other good songs

>>23264395

>>23264370
we continue to live because the alternative is even more boring. i'd personally rather suffer and possibly find a way to overcome it than never have the chance to fail at all. sorry, that probably sounds pretty lame, lol.
and yeah, i've done the same thing plenty of times. i wish i had better advice but well, it'd be hypocritical since i don't do any of it either, haha.

>>23264398
oh geez, yeah, i had a novel that i was supposed to analyze, was given months to do it and i still waited until the very last week to finish it. and if you're reading a boring book, try finding the audio book if it has one and just playing it while you do stuff. that might make it a little more bearable.

and i'm going to school for forensic biochemistry, still not sure what i want to do with it but i'll probably try to get a lab job.

>kpop
idk why i've never branched out from kpop, some of this is great. thank you for giving me some new listening material!

and yeah, i tried reading it and couldn't since i already knew most of what happened. it was definitely better than the movie imo though

>lazy fuckness
i've learned a lot of it through trial and error, but yeah, i understand what you're getting at. i have to be doing something constantly otherwise i feel worthless or like i'm not contributing to the world, even though i know realistically no matter what i do i won't make too big of a difference until i'm done with school (continued)

>>23266542
>audiobook
Good idea, but I hope I can find one that's free. I currently have about 10 dollars to my name. ;-;
>kpop
I don't think it's easy to branch out from kpop, especially if you don't know a lot of korean people. Even I don't know that many and I can barely speak korean. I think kpop has always been a barrier for me when it came to learning the language because I really couldn't enjoy it.
>conquering lazyfuckness
I'm glad I can talk about it with you, because I think talking about it is what helped me become more aware of it, even if putting into practice is still a struggle. I think anyone who decides to reach out to others is in a way, admirable, because there are so many mental obstacles in between, like pride, fear of embarrassment, fear of being manipulated. There's a quote I like by Hemingway which goes: “The best people possess a feeling for beauty, the courage to take risks, the discipline to tell the truth, the capacity for sacrifice. Ironically, their virtues make them vulnerable; they are often wounded, sometimes destroyed.”

I like the idea that in general, especially as you get older, making yourself vulnerable in direct spite of your fears takes more courage than growing a thick skin. I think cynicism is overrated, although I'm still guilty of giving into it a lot. Humility is great.
>talking too much
blab away and throw me your most garrulous verbiage and verbosity. I honestly wish people would be more verbose most of the time. I feel like I'm constantly sperging out while most other people are laying back and throwing out 2 sentences to maintain some sense of nonchalance. Although, people probably don't mean to make me feel like a FOOL, but still, I think most people are too anti-enthusiasm and anti-intellectual. Idk that's my opinion. Thoughts?
>stepmania
that's awesome. I definitely recommend checking out flashflashrevolution.com. That place has a history. Although it's not as active as it used to be (there was a dark point in its history where the site disappeared for a few months), there are still hundreds of people online every day, which is awesome. The thing about it is that's it's completely free and crowd-sourced in terms of its content. They have tons of classic songs, too, including obscure tracks by The Flashbulb. If you wanna add me on there, here's me: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/profile/Dvaerak7Korgo/

ah yes, I also really enjoyed the Whiplash soundtrack. I feel lucky in that it wasn't hyped up for me at all when I saw it. My friend works at the theater and we saw it as soon as it came out. I wake up to Track 8 every morning and Caravan is my ringtone lol. I'm aware that people shit on the movie though, over in /tv/ and /mu/.
For more jazz ballads, I recommend checking out Wayne Shorter's albums. They're my favorite. This is my favorite ballad of his:

I dont know why theyre shitting on Whipslash tho, besides the romantic subplot everything was great right?
Loved Wayne Shorter, Coltrane is obviously a genius, but I dont know, personally im missing something with him... maybe im more of a piano/drums jazz guy?

'tis a strange feeling isn't it? All of my old friends have become extremely successful and are having the time of their lives and I feel like the biggest failure out of all of them. I miss them a lot but every time I talk to them, all I hear about is how great everything is going for them. Then they ask me how I'm doing and what I'm doing with my life and I kind of just want to end the conversation right then and there.
>I used to be open and comfortable about my thoughts
Same here. I rarely talk in social settings these days, and I trip over my words if I have to talk for more than two or three sentences. I've been that way my whole life (don't like being the center of attention) but it seems to have gotten worse as I've gotten older. I hate it.
>CT

They're all super into the idea of having fancy ass gardens but don't want to put any of the actual work into creating them and maintaining them (which is the funnest part imo). At least they overpaid us, heh.

Yeah I'm not sure why /tv/ anons hate Whiplash, but it seems like /mu/ h8ers think of it as a terrible gateway into jazz for normies, since it focuses on flashy tunes and failed to even bring up other jazz drumming greats like Elvin Jones, Art Blakey, Tony Williams, Max Roach, Joe Chambers. I was pretty bummed about that too because I'm not a big fan of Buddy's arrangements and musicality, although I think he's a killer technical player. But I didn't think the movie was terrible. I think it accomplished what seemed to be its goal, which I think was to tell a narrative about the ugly face of institutionalized musical competition and how it neglects and bastardizes art. I had a pretty shitty music teacher in high school (although not violent or verbally abusive, just really aloof and passive-aggressive) and I could sorta relate because he made us bust our asses in high school without ever giving us the incentive to discover and appreciate music on our own. All he applauded us for was getting awards. Anyway, I just got done playing jazz for 2 hours at school. Bretty fun.

Oh I'm also a huge fan of drums. If you want that kind of stuff, definitely check out Antonio Sanchez. He's my favorite. That reminds me, Whiplash and Birdman both came out around the same time. I really liked Birdman, especially for the soundtrack. You should check it out. Antonio Sanchez recorded most of it.

I don't think I noticed how much my relationships with my closest friends determined how comfortable I am with myself, until I was forced to move away. My parents were fighting and within a week, my mom decided to move in with her sister and get a divorce. That was a year ago. At the time, I was kinda excited and it never really hit me how sad I was about leaving home for the first time. It just kinda got hazy and I think I kept repressing it by only focusing on the upside. I never complained to my friends. I felt so detached as my two best friends hugged me and I felt nothing. But after a few months, my other best friend, my brother, left for the military and I went into full NEET mode for a month and stopped eating, stopped coming out of my room and tried to figure out ways to kill myself. Luckily, my uncle recognized what I was going through since he went through it himself (he told me that for a few months, he lived alone in an apartment and only ate canned soup) and he made me get out more. He even used his connections to drive me out to Boston and stay there for a week with a really awesome, humble and hilarious music major who was in his final year at Berklee. He took me to some of his classes and took me on walks. He acted like the older brother I never had. It brought me up despite how I still felt so empty at night. After coming home, I sought out a therapist and things started to get a little better. I also found a job which I stuck with for 10 months, but then the store moved and things got really rough so I quit on good terms, thankfully. I also made enough money to fork over the $260 that CT demanded just to get a driver's license, which is fucked. Then I was finally able to afford school, so I did a semester. That's pretty much my last year in a nutshell. It's nice to reflect so thanks for talking to me.

Shit that was a long post. Do I dare continue?

I dare.

Then went to therapy, picked up my laundry, made some meat loaf for dinner, and chatted A LOT with my new British roommate. She's from Bristol and boy does she talk a lot. She's cool though, and gave me some Twinings tea, yay.

Now I'm going to have some dessert.

yeah I get this depressing, uppity and trashy vibe from much of this state. I live next to a bunch of motels that had a huge sex trafficking bust a few years back and I've heard they're still at it. Oh yeah and there was also that bacon jalapeno mac n cheese kid fucking lol. I've had the luck of meeting a few really cool musicians here, though. They're the chill crowd. A lot of artists at my community college too. I hung out with one of the musicians I found through craigslist and he was super chill, but he was always going on about rednecks in his family and his neighborhood. I also heard that Greenwich is where some of the 1% live. I remember driving through there a couple of times. Man, I can't believe Hartford is so shitty while they live among such beautiful fields and mountains. I remember skating downtown in Hartford one day and I found a woman passed out on the broken sidewalk with her cheek to the ground. It was fucked up. A police car was there, though, so I just moved along. Anyway...

That Hartford story sounds just like Hartford. That city (and most of CT) doesn't really make much sense to me, but it seems like you found your chill group so that's all that matters for now. Greenwich is indeed where they live (and New Canaan too) and I took care of some gardens around that area. There always seemed to be a very frustrated golden retriever at every house in CT that I worked at, kek.
