I'm fucking dreading Valentine's Day, but not because of any sort of relationship, it makes my job hell. I work at an animal shelter and while before the day is nice, we sell adoption certificates to people so instead of a "surprise" animal the person they're gifting it too can actually pick out the animal themselves. there's always a few who get mad we don't adopt out if the person intended to be the main caretaker isn't there, but it's not too bad

the shit comes right after Valentine's Day, over the next couple weeks when all the guys who bought puppies from Craigslist breeders for their girlfriends come to surrender them because they're too much work, too annoying, too loud, etc (one dude literally surrendered two husky puppies because they "didn't know they'd shed"...). or that they break up and the puppy gets dumped

or worse, they keep the dog for about a year and surrender them when they're not "puppy cute" anymore but have a lot of behavior issues because they never bothered to properly train or socialize them. both come in a lot this time of year and it really gets under your skin after a while
