narrow eyes indicate forward, horizontal facial growth. wide faces are more attractive because they indicate optimal development.

being able to see the sclera below or above the eye (sanpaku) is bad because it means your face didn't develop right. long narrow faces are unnatural and typically come with a host of health issues. it's been hypothesized to be one of the causes of myopia and astigmatism, as the malformed eye socket literally squeezes the eyeball into an unnatural shape.

a strong, low brow ridge makes eyes appear narrower as well, and this is a sexually dimorphic trait. it's the main reason a trap's eyes always give it away.
