I feel that way about my own shading at some points. I feel like you did a really good job on the shadows, I like using pencil because you can go over the marks with your finger for a smooth transition. Never hurts to mark out the lesser shades from the darker ones if you're feeling uncertain. Idk, you could try asking over at /ic/ they seem to know what they're doing.
