How deep would you have to dig to go back 100years?
I know it depends on the terrain and soil but in general.
Would 1ft be like 5years?
No one knows?
Has your yard gotten a foot of dirt in the past 5 years?

About an inch below the surface. That's how long it takes dirt to be made.

It really fucking depends. In some places 1 mm is a thousand years, in others it's one.
It also depends on the depth (ie deposition era).

This, absolutely no more than a few inches unless of course it's in a region where sediment deposits are higher. To illustrate I'll just begin to list factors that could affect the accumulation of soil: water flow, earthquakes (even minor ones), landslides (even minor ones), amount and type of vegetation and/or detritus AKA leaves) nearby, rainfall, weather, soil pH, microbial ecology, etc. You get the idea, it's highly variable but in most places to go more than a foot you're talking multiple centuries or millennia.

I dug out a midden in my back yard, it was about 3 feet deep and had shit in there for ~200 years ago (when my house was built).
