It's that time again. Post progress.

>currently working through "Adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators word problems"
>genuinely enjoying myself and having fun learning
I have a poor public school education of maths, and some brain problems so I love the fact that I can somewhat teach myself maths and learn all of this shit. Slowly but surely.
>>
>>7795059
Nice going, keep it up.
>>
>>7795059
This is what I'm at so far
>>
>>7795073
How long did it take you to get that far? I'm only six days in.
>>
This is great to see. I finished precalc when I was 16 and then decided to become a fuckup for a few years, not focusing on my studies at all. Had a terrible time in college studying various humanities subjects. Khan Academy as well as various other online resources and textbooks have made me feel like I have a second lease on life. I'm completely obsessed with learning math and science skills and have no desire to do drugs or slack off etc. in it for the long haul!
>>
>why did my progress drop by 30%? Edition

Working back through algebra and geometry is annoying. But its cool that they added arthimetic and geometric series.
>>
>>7795059
>high school and beyond
KA confirmed for shit tier
>>
Does anyone know how good integral calculus is on Khan Academy? I'm probably going to have a shitty teacher for it at my uni, and I'm afraid of not learning all I was supposed to learn.
>>
>>7795494
I would only use khan academy up to pre-calc, then move on to a book.
>>
>>7795472
It bugs me a bit too but this entire set-up must be relatively new, right? Since they continue adding new stuff on a seemingly-daily basis.
>>
>>7795924
I assume the most time consuming part of the process of adding new material is the videos. I feel like it's entirely possible to setup automated questions for sections, depending on what you're trying to do.

But they aren't debugging everything fully right away. One problem I had was write down an inequality and something like
8x^2 < 4x(x-3) was the answer they wanted
but
2x < (x-3) wasn't acceptable
and
8x^2 < (4x^2 - 12x) wasn't acceptable

which is bullshit ass bullshit.

Slowly but steady brehs, we're all gonna make it.
The most difficult part right now is divisions and multiplications of large numbers without a calculator, first time I do it, I want to get used to not having to rely on a calculator.
Planning on mastering Calculus by the end of the year.

I always got confused by the naming scheme, personally. Like some is opp/hyp, but cosecant is hyp/opp.

To me the names should be:
Sine: opp/hyp
Cosine: hyp/opp
Secant: adj/hyp
Cosecant: hyp/adj
Tangent: opp/adj
Cotangent: adj/opp

Would make them easier to remember, but alas, I'm not an ancient Greek mathematician.

I've recently discovered both ttc math videos and Khan academy, and like op I have a poor grasp of math(slacked off since elementary), along with slight brain damage from an injury.

My question is, would Khan academy, and ttc be good to use in supplementation of each other? Or would I overwhelm myself?

Just wanna fix myself as much as I can so I can go to college, and not be a dumbass anymore

OP here. You could always start from the very beginning with Khan Academy. I began from K-2nd and am working my way up. For other non-grade sections (like Early Math, Arithmetic, etc), I'd focus on those once the percentage became high enough--or higher than the grade I was working on--to max it.

Just don't forget that khanacademy is not substitute for an actual textbooks.

Stuff from calculus and above are lacking in plenty of areas, plus the problems all around are pretty simple, so use them for practice, but get a textbook for better problems and complete content.

Ok, so I'm 34.
In my late teens/early 20s I was the stereotypical underachiever. In college, before I dropped out, I took through DiffEq and was doing well in that before I dropped out.

After spending the better part of the ensuing decade fixing my fucked up life, I'm finally in position to be able to go back to school and finish my degree.

So my problem is this: I halfway remember this stuff, and because of this, it's really frustrating trying to relearn it (I'm having to start with basic algebra)...have any of you dealt with this kind of frustration and how did you work through it? I'm my biggest problem now, and unless I can fix this somehow, there's no use in bothering to try to go back to school...

take it from another old fag fuck up that is in his senior year.

college algebra is the hardest class you will ever take. if you master the fuck out of algebra and trig, calculus, ODE/PDE's, numerical methods, and linear algebra will be fucking cake.

undergrad math is really just a few new concepts wrapped up in some very first principles kind of stuff.
>>
>>7812507
