when will the next mind blowing and exciting scientific breakthrough finally happen?
>>
2020, when some genius figures out quantum gravity
>>
>>7794495
That already happened. Guy's name is Edward Witten. The breakthrough will be when it is experimentally confirmed.
>>
>>7794515

isnt all of his work going to be void if string theory turns out to be wrong?
>>
>>7794515
>That already happened. Guy's name is Edward Witten. The breakthrough will be when it is experimentally confirmed.

Is there anything that points to string theory matching reality besides the fact that it works out mathematically?

when scientist admit that they have no clue about what they are doing.
the breakthrough would be that a scientist can prove that science is necessary and sufficient to reach reality/objectivity/universality/truth.

so far they are not able to do this.

As for your post:

Are you retarded? Everyone already trusts science because it works.

After the great American pogrom during Trump's presidency, when whites take back physics.

No but it is testable in principle. You'd just need a fuckhuge particle accelerator bigger than the Earth.
>>

Yeah... no. Either you learn how to make your own fucking argument without relying on a celebrity to have your opinions for you, or you go back to reddit where this kind of behavour is completely accepted.

Fucking retard.

no more diversity quotas and political correctness means less liberal faggots dragging science down.

we desperately need to return to empirically grounded science and quit worrying about mostly untestable assumptions about things we can't touch or use.

>we desperately need to return to empirically grounded science and quit worrying about mostly untestable assumptions about things we can't touch or use.

It is literally impossible to do that for quantum gravity.
>>
>>7794841

Then maybe quantum gravity is worthless bullshit and we should try something else.

it is quite odd that scientists who are supposed to be honest, still accept to be paid when they cannot prove that science is right.
>>
>>7794843
>Then maybe quantum gravity is worthless bullshit and we should try something else.

When I say quantum gravity, I mean the behavior of gravity at a quantum mechanical scale. Not any particular approach to the concept. So are you saying we should completely abandon attempting to understand this fundamental topic?
>>
>>7794843
Right away sir. Standing by for you to direct the world's physicists. Tell us what to research, oh wise one.
>>
>>7794856

Are you understanding anything if there is no empirical basis for your work? It is all imaginary conjecture on paper.
>>
Already happened. CRISPR will cure cancer, make us immortal and enable catgirls.
>>
>>7794528
When a quantum physics theory first comes out, there's never ANYTHING that points to it matching reality besides the math.

Hell, it took decades just for Planck's theory to be accepted by the scientific community. Even Planck didn't believe his theory matched reality.
>>
>>7794861
>Theory-practice

Insufficient reason to downplay it. Planck's theory was "pure math", so to speak, when he publicized it. Nobody thought it made sense, or was applicable to reality, even thought it was conceptually based on various experiments.

It ended up being the basis for quantum physics.

Binchy of other boring stuff. Knowledge is conscious and shared to those who ask. God is based, most will die. Dead will become worker zombies, hell is yet to be real, but it will.
'Hell in suffering is easy, True Hell is being conscious for eternity and not having control of the body you inhibit.' God, the Father

My guesses for the future.

1) The existing mathematical system will be overturned and look as quaint, by comparison, to primitive maths that had no operation more complex than simple addition or subtraction.

The existing mathematical models we have today will still be useful in some respects. After all its merely a glorified accounting system. But future people will regard it as useful in the same way as we still regard Newtonian physics as useful. They will know that past certain limits of use it is not reliable

2) The definition of Life will be refined to include all energy and material systems. Life will be regarded simply as a level of ability to resist entropy.

3) The next physics break though will involve the removal of dimensions.
>>
>>7798893
*Does _not_ quite meet your criterion
>>
>>7798943
>3) The next physics break though will involve the removal of dimensions.
I do not think so. time and space are the initial abstraction wherein the physicist has faith and, since he knows that his experiements do not really depend on the and place direction in space as well as the place in time, he says that his physical equations must be stable under the spacetime group. but then, since the physicist claims that his equations describe the reality, he is stuck with his group floating in space and he has no idea where this group. so this weakens the motto that physics through mathematics talks about the reality.

many have tried to escape this in saying that space and time emerges from some other primordial concept, but it story repeats and will repeat as long as people think in terms of space and time. this is the tragedy of the rationalist: he tries to escape the limitations that he sets up himself, but then he is not able to do so and conclude that his abstractions are necessary, which means that he has no idea on how to do otherwise and even less a clue on why he wants to ''describe the reality'', besides some angst when boredom sets in. he has so much faith in his abstraction and so much faith in the danger of not abstracting that he fails to reach his goals.

It doesn't follow that string theory must also be true. String theory is a pure contrivance and basically worthless as a theory as it predicts nothing.
