Anyone here an engineering consultant?
What's it like?
Like a boss

Like a cigarette should.

sounds like a horrible job tbqh

Why?
No one?

Way less pay than you probably think it is.
What's nice is you work on more interesting projects. You're doing technical engineering most of the time instead of management bullshit.
It can be stressful. Especially consulting for the Chinese. Those guys are scary and hate being told their wrong about anything.
Also DO NOT ask them about their employees or their wages.

how does anyone even get a job as a consultant?

You need to have a good network of industry contacts.
I got mine through my professor when he started referring me some of his less paid work. Built of from there and regularly get referrals.
Alternatively you can work for a consulting firm. They only accept really high-performing candidates though.

Oh. That's disappointing.
How the traveling? I thought you get to travel to tons of different places a lot and stay in great-luxurious accommodations while you're there?

Yes. Believe me hotels are overrated. You end up 'going out with the lads' anyway, stay in the vicinity, it is work time not a holiday.

I hate traveling personally. That's the worst part about consulting for me.
