Is cancer basically nature's way of saying "fuck you, you guys weren't meant to live that long or be anything more than primitive apes"? Why hasn't an effective treatment for destroying cancerous cells without killing normal cells been found yet?

Is there any real way forward as a species other than genetic engineering and/or cybernetic enhancements?
>>
>go to /sci/ to get away from the bandwagoners

Well fugg
>>
Cancer exists because mutations exist because creatures have to have some way of changing themselves and reproducing and removing the old versions of themselves from the system.
>>
>>7776264
>"fuck you, you guys weren't meant to live that long or be anything more than primitive apes"
Nature doesn't mean for anything to happen, meaning is a human fabrication.

>Why hasn't an effective treatment for destroying cancerous cells without killing normal cells been found yet?
There are a variety of promising methods. There's a difference between discovering a treatment, having it peer-reviewed, testing it on a larger scale, evaluating the effects of that treatment over the lifespan, overcoming all of the legal issues and then marketing and mass producing the treatment.

>Is there any real way forward as a species other than genetic engineering and/or cybernetic enhancements?
You are a fucking retard
>>
>>7776266
Basically this.

The mutation rate in all organisms is a compromise between the risk of cancer and other catastrophic mutations on the one hand, and evolution on the other hand.
>>
>>7776266
Doesn't this imply that species are just one large organism? How does it benefit the individual life form to replace itself with a better model?

>>7776266
>have to have
Evolution does not work that way. Species who do not mutate to the same scale (are not as adaptive) are naturally overtaken by those that do. You are right about cancer being a product of this.

>>7776273
>compromise
Evolution does not fucking work that way.

>>7776274
You are still a fucking retard
>>
>>7776264
Basically yeah, but a lot of propaganda pushers very badly want to link cancer with lifestyle choices.
>>
>>7776264
Fuck all this shit and replies

There is more than one form of cancer and they are all loosely related tumours.

The point being is that there are a lot of things that are also bad if not worse.

Suicide is the #10 cause of death, is that natures way of saying "fuck you you'll never get anywhere?"

We haven't cured all 100+ forms of cancer yet in humans because it is often very inconsistent and you need to be ready for everything to be a "cure"

Intact cancer treatments so far is our way of saying "fuck you" back at nature and showing there is hope so fuck this thread
>>
>>7776282

tone down the edginess you twat
>>
>>7776264
It's nature's way of saying "you spawned enough /b/tards, you can die now"
>>
Cancer is actually a repair mechanism that's not evolutionary complete. It basically tries to repair a damaged tissue, but it has not means of stopping. In 1000 years cancer will be the reason people are immortal.
>>
>>7776447
Wtf are you on
>>
>>7776447
You have literally no idea how evolution works.
>>
>>7776266
>implying evolution has purpose
>>
>>7776264

No.

There's a lot to it, but the reason we die is because our bodies develop in a way that gets messier and messier until complications arise and some (or several) vital components fail which snowballs until a catastrophic failure which we call "death." This can happen for a lot of reasons and it's completely possible for this to happen without cancer. Ie, dying of old age.

We age because our bodies constantly have to be replaced throughout our lives. When you get cut, you heal because your body uses DNA like a blueprint to replace what needs to be replaced. Of course, not all cells are replaced like this, so some things just get shittier - like our brains. But the majority of what makes up "us" is replaced. The issue is that our DNA itself isn't locked in some magical box that is untouchable to fuckery. Our blueprints get fucked up like the rest of our bodies. When we're young, we have these new, fresh, and brilliant blueprints. But over time, these prints have to be copied and because there is no magical box, the copies can and will come out shittier. But your body isn't just going to give up, it's still going to replace this stuff with what it has. Thing is, what is has is shit and so the replacement ends up being shit as well. Then when the shitty replacement brakes, it does the same thing again. Over time, your body has gone through this process so many times the blueprints it's currently using are completely fucked compared to the originals.

Immortality isn't about curing cancer, it's about stopping aging. Which is about ensuring that our permanent cells are never affected by their environment and that the replicating ones always produce 1:1 copies of their originals. Under both of these conditions, cancer would never occur.

Evolution isn't even concerned with death for the most part. It's concerned with fucking.

Yeah and sexual selections indicates that that branch dies off.

so is one way to fix this is to keep a copy of the original dna that we get when we are born and then use nanomachines to replace messy dna with the original data , say every 5 years?
>>
>>7776705
i can't wait for the day when biologists figure out that evolution is just a feedback control

Cancer is an inevitability. The cells within our body will evolutionarily gravitate towards becoming cancerous.

Our body is just a collection of cells. These cells work together to provide the functions of the human body when all is well. This is what they are 'designed' to do.

However, they are also 'designed' to replicate to replace themselves. Without going into detail, their replication is restricted by our genes.

But because they replicate, the cells in our body are just as prone to the forces of natural selection as any other organism in any environment. This means that cells more likely to divide more frequently will, over time, increase in number, even if this causes pathology in the organism as a whole. This is the fundamental basis for why cancer is an inevitability.

Cancer is what will kill you if nothing else kills you first. If we do manage to cure common cancers today, then it's likely that another, similar pathology will just take its place. Immortality would require a constant modification of the dna in every replicating cell of the body to counteract this.

When you study biological organization, yes, a population is a group of animals of the same species. They are an entity, but they aren't a large "organism", just like your lungs, or your kidneys, aren't large cells. Groups of cells do things. Groups of individuals do things.
>>
>>7776264
>Is cancer basically nature's way of saying "fuck you
Evolution favors survival of the species, NOT the individual.
The old must be swept away to make way for the new.
...the streets will flow with the blood of the non-believers, etc.

>>
>>7776273

Do you even #bio? Mutation is not the driving force in evolution. Phenotypic variation and sexual/natural selection drive the evolution of new adaptation.
>>
>>7776264
it's natures way of saying.

you're a retard.
>>
>>7776683
>Which is about ensuring that our permanent cells are never affected by their environment and that the replicating ones always produce 1:1 copies of their originals.

Only way to cope with that is transplant organs and nano-robots to do the replication.
>>
>>7776264
>Is cancer basically nature's way of saying

No. There are lots of mechanisms that prevent cancer. Only when all of them fail does it occur.

>Why hasn't an effective treatment for destroying cancerous cells without killing normal cells been found yet?

They are working on it.
>>
>>7777380

Read the selfish gene by Richard Dawkins, he explains evolution on a very enlightening way. Evolution doesn't work on the level of the species at all, nor does it work at the level of the individual organism. It works at the level of the basic unit of inheritance, ie the gene
