They're not mutually exclusive of course, in that we have some genetic predisposition to value social status for successful offspring that's unrelated to physical attributes. But valuing physical attributes has been naturally selected for hundreds of millions of years, whereas social factors present in human populations are pretty new.

Attractive women only exist to get men hard. That's why they exist. To give men a boner and to provide a hole to ejaculate in. A man does not need a woman to survive in nature. Arguably a woman needs a man to survive in nature. The stereotypically attractive female...exists to arouse that attractive man so he can inseminate her.

Male sexual selection is just as complex. Looks and emotional appeal is certainly part of it, these act as signals about genetic fitness. However an equal part of it is finding a female that can be trusted not only to aid you in producing quality offspring, but be trusted to manage resources and raise them properly. Ideally. Or you'll just get sick of each other, divorce, and bicker for years whenever you're forced to see each other.

Ideally each party is relatively competent, and finds a situation wherein they can act genuinely. This type of bonding provides new perspectives and stress relief, which makes the organism function better in myriad ways. Ideally it's not just you doing the fucking either. I'd imagine it can be nice to have a bit of being fucked too, or better yet, fucking "with" someone. Having children is an engineering project that does not end at conception. You're looking for someone to raise them properly as well.
