So, I've got the Differential Equations Revision Final in September 20th, but I'm pretty clueless about it. I didn't have enough time to study it during the semester, so I just did a speedrun of the whole curriculum and ended up scoring a 2/10 during the June final. Anyway, you can take the final as many times as you want here, until you pass, so I'm taking it again during September's Revision Period

Problem is, I remember little, and the subject confused me a bit. I have no notes (long story short I don't go to class, and most of the time, neither do the proffs) and I have only one book: William E Boyce Elementary Differential Equations Solutions

Does anyone have any tips or any other books I could buy? I took the majority of the "classes" that were under the Dif.Eq. Branch over at Khan Academy as well.

go to your uni's differential equations class websites. maybe there's some stuff there. if not, go to other uni's ode class websites. try to find ones with solutions

I've downloaded the notes, and the Professor has a few exercises, but I wantto understand the material, not learn a few things by heart. Do you know of any good books?
>>
>>9139881
its lower div undergrad dude. trying to understand is a waste of your time. just learn how to do common problems, even if you have to memorize some.

for starters:

you can solve ODEs like x'' +1 , right?

Why has the definition of autism changed so frequently every decade?
>1940's - Autism is exclusive with schizophrenia
>1950's - Autism is similar to schizophrenia but doesn't require psychosis
>1960's - Autism is only a social disorder that included psychopathy and catatonia
>1970's - Autism is caused by organic brain damage from immune responses and makes kids retarded
>1980's - Autism is actually a neurodevelopmental disorder LMAO we're dumb. Autism isn't brain damage but something is fucked up in there.
>1990's - We should separate retard autists from smart autists and call them aspergers aka sperg retards. Also puzzles n'shieet lmao.
>2000's - Autism is caused by over 50 genetics and chemicals and shieet. It also has ADHD, OCD, Sensory issues, higher than average IQ, synesthesia, motor issues, etc. It's caused by a lack of synaptic pruning in early development. Eidetic memory lmao.
>2010's - Autism is just a spectrum guys, there's nothing wrong with it! :) :) :) btw Minecraft lmao
>2020's - Autistic people are superior to the neurotypical and should never be insulted you fucking ableist lower IQ plebeian. btw 99% of math majors LMAO

Scientists can be separated into two groups.
The first group have autism.
The second group dedicate their entire life to write about the phenomenon where all their co-workers are impossible to work with, ignore them whenever they're talking, play with weird toys (what they'd call "instruments") all day, laugh inappropriately at michelle obama when she comes to the campus to deliver graduation speeches, sometime just stare at the wall for multiple hours at a time, yell loudly at students and peers, etc etc.
>>
>>9139854
Because we lack a theoretical framework in which to construct sensible mind theories, thus we classify things according to what they vaguely resemble, if you squint.
>>
>>9139877
Scientists =\= academicus

Also, laughing at Michelle obongo is only natural

hi, I'm searching for a book I saw long ago and can't find now. It's about Stochastic Calc/Financial Calc/Stoch Processes, and fundamental thing I remember about it, that it had filtration visualized as a scheme of outcomes of coin toss.

What if the Heimlich maneuver doesn't work?

Could you theoretically just blow air really hard into someone's mouth and fire the blockage into their lungs? I mean they'd be able to breath once its actually out of the throat? You could then just have the blockage removed from your lung.

So what about an "infinite set"? Well, to begin with you should say precisely what the term means.
Okay if you don't, at least someone should. Putting an adjective in front of a noun does not in itself make a mathematical concept.
Cantor declared that an "infinite set" is a set which is not finite. Surely that is unsatisfactory, as Cantor no doubt suspected himself. It's like declaring that an "all-seeing Leprechaun" is a Leprechaun which can see everything. Or an unstoppable mouse is a mouse which cannot be stopped. These grammatical constructions do not create concepts, except perhaps in literary or poetic sense. It is not clear that there are any sets that are not finite, just as it's not clear that there are any Leprechauns which can see everything, or that there are mice which cannot be stopped.
Certainly in science there is no reason to suppose that "infinite sets" exist. Are there and infinite number of quarks or electrons in the universe? If physicists had to hazard a guess, I am confident that the majority would say: No. But even if there were an infinite number of electrons it's unreasonable to suppose that you can get an infinite number of them all together as a single data object.

Where does all the water in Crater Lake go? It rains/snows quite a bit yet the level never rises significantly. It does not seep out the side of the mountain. It can't evaporate fast enough to explain the lake level.

Hey Sci whats up! I am a High school senior and I have taken AP Cal & Ap Phys C mechanics last year and I wanted to get into string theory/M Theory. What "road map" should I take in order to learn the prerequisites for having a good understanding of the String/Super String/M-Theory model. Specifically the goal is to understand the Calabi-Yau model at a mathematical level. (Basically being able to apply it and understand research on it i.g. http://www.seminariomatematico.unito.it/rendiconti/73-12/9.pdf.

Go to college, major in math and physics. You need everything in both of those degrees at least. You are nowhere near ready to even begin approaching that stuff.

Would it be possible to do it on the side? I am going to do one of the stem pathway programs so I will be focused on obtaining a bs in engineering and a masters in business. The only feasible way I can see myself learning this is learning concurrent to my other studies.

For the sake of science, how powerful would a microwave have to be to cause water at body temperature to boil instantly or within less than 2 seconds from a distance of 100 feet?
10 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>9139491
Ask the Japanese.
>>
Isnt there like a frwquency range for microwaves?

Also, given that theres a shit ton of water in your body id imagine itd take a lot more than 2 secs
>>
>>9139496
Only a small amount would require to be boiled instantly though, in this hypothetical experiment. Directing the microwaves would be more important, if you can hit something, say, the size of a bottle of water, any instant boiling would cause heavy damage to the surrounding area as it would cause an explosion.
