God damn friendos.

EE here going back to school for mechanical now and I can't fucking get it

I don't understand what assumptions you can make in fluid flow, heat transfer, etc

I always seem to have too many variables. I don't know how to use any of the charts and when to use them

Can someone please give me a crash course? I feel like I'm confused on something very very basic

No, I have worked three jobs since graduating. Very lucrative field. Last job wisest man at that firm said to me "Biggest thing I regret, I wish I had learned mechanical also"

What the fuck is the point of this thread?
Why would anyone want to do the math for you?
Figure it out yourself.
>>
>>8695680

i did the math and at 8 feet of visibility loss per mile it should have around 40 feet of the base missing

yet you can see the whole structure.

why are you mean?

They both have some bretty gud moons we might be able to do something with, someday.

But it true there are more interesting things closer that we'll have more use for sooner.

Still, nice to do some raw science again... I suppose it's likely there's not a whole lot more a cheap modern probe could tell us about them that would be surprising that the old ones haven't already told us, but as technology improves maybe that'll change.

Also, figuring out what the hell happened to Uranus to knock it on its side so badly, might be wise.

There's also apparently another mass the size of Neptune out there we should visit - if we ever manage to find the damned thing.

You know half the population in any population has less than average intelligence, yet you don't maximize your attractiveness and social standing?

ISHYGDDT

>People high in the need for cognition are more likely to form their attitudes by paying close attention to relevant arguments (i.e., via the central route to persuasion), whereas people low in the need for cognition are more likely to rely on peripheral cues, such as how attractive or credible a speaker is. People low in need for cognition are also more likely to rely on stereotypes alone in judging other people than those high in need for cognition.

Why the fuck would you want to colonise other planets when your offspring will grow up to be hideous manlets or lankylets due to different planetary gravities than earth?
12 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
We should send manlets to colonize low-grav planets, and lanklets to colonize high-grav planets, that way they'll all end up with normal length.

For the game mastermind, I need to work out the probabilities of certain combinations of a randomly generated secret code.

Using 5 colours of pegs and 4 peg-holes, the maximum number of combinations that there can be are 625.

What is the probability that of these 625 the secret code contains:

1. 4 duplicate colours
2. 3 duplicate colours, 1 unique
3. 2 duplicates, 2 uniques
4. 2 duplicate colours, 2 other duplicates
5. 4 uniques

Gratitude will be enormous.

Many thanks

this is trivial counting problam, you can probably robotically apply formulas you have in your book

im a biology person and can solve it, you should probably end it
>>
>>8693836
i cba to remember if i need to use binomial distribution to solve this or not

can u pls explain
>>
>>8693840
just count it nigga

1) pick any one color, theres 5, next one must be the same, next one must be the same, next one muxt be he same, thus 5/625 are 4 duplicates

2) first one can be anything, second one can be anything, third one must be same as firs tor second, last one must be same as third, (5*5*2*1)/625

and so on

What are some of your favorite metaphors, analogies, or thought experiments which lend some meaning to figures in science/math which cannot be directly comprehended? I recently watched a popular video which called attention to a thought experiment illustrating the size of 52 factorial:

>Start by picking your favorite spot on the equator. You're going to walk around the world along the equator, but take a very leisurely pace of one step every billion years. The equatorial circumference of the Earth is 40,075,017 meters. Make sure to pack a deck of playing cards, so you can get in a few trillion hands of solitaire between steps. After you complete your round the world trip, remove one drop of water from the Pacific Ocean. Now do the same thing again: walk around the world at one billion years per step, removing one drop of water from the Pacific Ocean each time you circle the globe.

>Continue until the ocean is empty. When it is, take one sheet of paper and place it flat on the ground. Now, fill the ocean back up and start the entire process all over again, adding a sheet of paper to the stack each time you’ve emptied the ocean.

>Do this until the stack of paper reaches from the Earth to the Sun. Take a glance at the timer, you will see that the three left-most digits haven’t even changed. You still have 8.063e67 more seconds to go. So, take the stack of papers down and do it all over again. One thousand times more. Unfortunately, that still won’t do it. There are still more than 5.385e67 seconds remaining. You’re just about a third of the way done.

Search any string for the source.

Also, what do you think is the edge of human comprehension in this sense? At what scales do you think figures can no longer be directly understood by us, but only repeated or at best compared to more digestible bits? It seems to me that the number is very small.

Pic unrelated but neat.

If consciousness is based on quantum phenomenon in a non-local universe, does that mean we emit sub-atomic particles every time we think?

It's certainly a possible explanation for the observer effect in the double slit experiment. A particle from your mind probably influences the result.

I posted a thread a few days ago that I was going to work through all exercises in Hartshorne, starting with Chapter 2.

Can we just all stop for a moment, look at this, and finally start gassing all the top 1 percenters? Just, anyone who earns more than 6 figures, gassed the fuck out. Can we?

That out of the way, I realized it after a year.

I am truly overworked and I see no end to it but... everything else would have been worse. I know that business people are even more overworked, I know that artists don't earn a penny, I know that historians/geographers/geologists either don't make a penny or are as overworked.

It is a reality. You learn it when you become an adult. Every side of life has some suck to it and all you have to do is take a breath and remember:
You don't suck at life, life sucks at you.
