ok /sci/ let's make a list of mind-stimulating internet resources. Either video, podcast, or text
I'll start with some classics:
>waking up with sam harris (podcast)
>waitbutwhy
>Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell
>Quartz
>PBS related
>THUNK (really really underrated)
>Nerdwriter1
>TED
I'm not going to say scishow news because it has become really shallow and click baitish

Podcasts:
>Quirks and Quarks (CBC Radio)
>Radiolab
>The Infinite Monkey Cage (BBC)
>In Our Time: Science (BBC)
>99% Invisible
YouTube:
>Real Engineering
>3Blue1Brown
>engineerguy
>Sciencium
Text:
>Ars Technica's science section
>reddit.com/r/AskScience
>nautil.us

3Blue1Brown is awesome. Smooth animations
>Jordan B Peterson
>Gad Saad
So let me get this straight.
>natural gas gives off less than half the amount of CO2 that coal does per kWh
>literally burns several potent greenhouse gases as fuel
>it's cleaner than coal by orders of magnitude
>we have huge excess of this stuff from oil drilling
>it's the cheapest energy source (by FAR)
>we can reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 30-35% JUST by replacing every coal plant with a NG plant (with the addition of electric cars, that means 60-65% reduction)
>isn't stuck in bureaucratic hell like nuclear
Why aren't we building these things en-mass RIGHT NOW, /sci/?
Should be investing in nuclear desu
>>8707671
Because russia and iran have by far the largest natural gas reserves, plain and simple.
most taxis I know run on natural gas
Who here subscribes to Aristotelian physics?

Yo mama

Not Obama

good news gents... I've just solved the quantum eraser paradox and developed a new unified field theory. I'm not going to publish until 2022, though. The world is not yet ready for it, nor I to attain Einstein-level status quite yet. Cheers m8s.
>>8707208
Cute. Well then if you're so smart, you could at least clearly explain said paradox? Surely that won't compromise your future ambitions.
>>8707208
What's the name of that hat in OP's pic? I always see it around online and I kind of want one for myself but I don't know what to search or ask for
>>8707250
Fuck you buddy
Still get a you but you didn't catch me
Is procrastination killing you?
>tomorrow is exam day
>almost 5AM right now and so not ready
>had all weekend to prepare and dindu shit
>>8707053
>1 pg essay due next week
>still havent started it
>>8707071
>1 pg
Could pump that shit out in a half hour.

>doesn't a recognize a popular meme from two years back
Welcome to 4chan, newfag.
Is this a good book for teaching myself linear algebra? It would be my first step in non highschool maths
It's most likely not a bad choice.
The Amazon rating will be worth more than /sci/ I think, hardly anyone will know it.
>>8707044
It is a very good book if you have a previous course of linear algebra under your belt.
It is probably better to use another book if this is your first exposure to the subject. I used David Lays "Linear Algebra and its Applications" but I'm sure someone else can suggest a better book
>>8707077
What if I know some linear algebra in a non rigorous way?
The missing Malaysia airplane was transferred to Mars.

If the second law of thermodynamics is true, then doesn't this mean that hot foods have more calories? Is this why hot beer tastes gross? (i.e. our body can tell that it's more fattening)
Does hot pizza taste worse? Nope, your theory is invalid.
>>8706875
More calories should make it taste better. Hypothesis discarded
alchool is good in beverage because its low vaper presser makes for gooder flavor that is all
>be considered the greatest scientist of the 20th century
> didn't understand Quantum Entanglement
how come?
>>8706804
Because being a scientist isn't a meme where you walk around comprehending everything and having no disagreements with anybody.
>>8706805
What does that make Black Science Man, then?
>>8706804
>Greatest scientific mind
Einstein literally lived in the same day as Tesla.
Einstein literally stated Tesla was the greatest scientific mind in the world.
Einstein literally invented nothing at all, Tesla invented everything essential to our modern society's electrical needs (wifi, electric motors, generators, AC current etc.)
Einstein was also a shill and a plagiarist, his theories have all basically fallen apart and physics continually has to backtrack, rewrite, and make exceptions to itself to keep his theories relevant.
Tesla's inventions remain unchanged in your modern household.
>get fucked you goy shill
Why are all wikipedia mathematics articles pseudointellectual circlejerks devoid of any real information?
Every single article is comically pedantic
grad students trying to show off, mostly.
>>8706710
>Every single article is comically pedantic
show us an example of what you consider pedantic
They're meant for experts who need a refresher. They're incredibly useful if you're in the field. I'm a grad student myself and find it incredibly more convenient than digging through textbooks.
is 840/980 (87th percentile) on the Math GRE any good? Pic related, score a guy at my uni got, doesnt seem that great but he's a Rhodes Scholar
Would a score like that get you to Oxford as an international without Rhodes?
Why don't you time yourself taking a practice test and see how you score?
>>8706679
It's sad that you think merit has anything to do with being a Rhodes scholar. Clinton was a Rhodes scholar. Edith Bunker was a Rhodes scholar.
>>8707915
I don't need to I would probably get 99th percentile no problem. I just want to see if that's more impressive than being a Rhodes Scholar.
does /sci/ like xkcd?
Occaisonally.

It was good like 5 years ago. Now SMBC is god emperor.

Could I get through the whole Algebra section on Khan Academy studying 1 hour a day for 4 months? I'm starting college this fall and want to brush up on the elementary and intermediate algebra part(I've already taken the class's in a previous CC) and learn the college algebra part
>>8706527
why not just some book?
>>8706527
You could probably get to calc 1 in that time, but consider doing more than 1 hour a day.
>>8706537
seconded
buy some old edition versions of texts books and go through them, khan academy is ok but I find sals voice irritating.
What is the maximum speed that time can flow? If time stops at the speed of light, how fast would it then go at an absolute speed of 0? You aren't rotating with a planet or galaxy, etc. Would you instantly die as all of time happened?
>speed = rate of change with respect to time
>what is the maximum rate of change with respect to time that time can flow?
>>8706431
Yes definitely
>>8706431
Time is a change in any state of any matter in the universe. Traveling at a higher speed or dropping to absolute 0 in changes in distance don't do anything when your body changes relative to itself. And if you found a way to stop that, you'd be frozen and likely dead.
>Harvard Math 55 students are doing what you're doing your senior year
Only americans are surprised by what is the standard curriculum in many other countries
>>8706420
eurocucks be like
"america sucks"
*goes to american university*
>>8706405
>Harvard Math 55 students doing only what I've been doing in 3rd year
feels pretty good
