What anti-science belief pisses you off the most?
My weakness is intelligent design, I get so fucking mad every time, it's almost impressive.

mathematics does not follow the scientific method, and therefore is anti-science

I've been out of the Ivory Tower Indoctrination Centers and have been a working Chemist for about 25 years now. I have come to the realization that the Theory of Evolution isn't Bullshit, it's Horseshit. Let me tell you how I came to this conclusion.

When I was in school, Evolution was hammered down our throats on a nearly daily basis. I "believed" in it, because it's what I was told was "true". And the way it was presented to an unknowing, inexperienced, not fully developed mind, sure, it made sense.

Then I broke free of the Indoctrination Centers and started doing actual, real, science, everyday, using the Scientific Method. And because I am a Nuclear Chemist, we have a strong Safety Culture, and one of our Human Performance Tools is called "Questioning Attitude". Never take anything at face value. Truly wonder about what's going on, don't take someone's word for it.

About 10 years ago, I got really immersed into that Questioning Attitude, and began began to really question everything about science, including the term "I Believe". Such as, "Sure, I believe in the Theory of Evolution". Science and "I believe" should never, ever, under any circumstance, be a thing.

I started doing some independent research into the subject, and it turns out, that when subjected to the Scientific Method, Evolution falls flat on it's face. It's not even a Theory, it has never made it past the Hypothesis stage. You can't observe it. You can't recreate it. You can't have an independent third party take your calculations and test them. Evolution is just a bunch of conjecture.

To top things off, I quickly came to realize that with the exception of Genetics, not just Evolutionary Biology, but Biology in general is a soft science, along the lines of PolySci, Psychology, and the Social Sciences. Compared to Physics, Engineering, and Chemistry, you can't test it, you can't reproduce it, you can't quantify it. It's just horseshit.

Why do people think adding nuclear to whatever makes it automatically sound elite?

It is a bit Strange to me, the way you Type. Something about it is Off, but I'm not sure what It Is. I'm just a simple Guy Shitposting on 4chan.org, where I see a Lot of Posts. But something about Yours stands out.

IM A NUCLEAR CHEMIST

EVOLUTIOON ISNT TRUE BECAUSE I USED TO BELIEVE IN IT

GENETICS IS REAL BUT NOT EVOLUTION

FUCK BIOLOGY

>"Someone else's success doesn't define my failure."

Just saw this in another thread and it reminded me of something that has been posted by my professor last week.

I have a group assignment that has a value of 40% of the final grade. The grading system of the assignment is based like this:

>First place gets 100%.
>Second place gets 90%
>...
>Last place gets 50%

That only works if you satisfy all the requirenments and deliver everything on time, otherwise you just get 0%.

My question, is this allowed in higher education ? Seems a little bit unfair.

Pic unrelated.

It's retarded but I don't see why it wouldn't be allowed. It's essentially just absurdly harsh curving.

Good way making monkey workers.
Bad way making functional people.

I would honestly talk to a department head about that.

That's literally forcing a portion of the class to fail regardless of the quality of their work.

One of my house mates is arguing that evolution is just a theory, there's no actual proof it happened. The outcome of this situation depends entirely on whether or not I lose my mind from the mental exhaustion of trying to understand this fucking nonsense.
What do I do?

Explain why a theory is different from a hypothesis. Then point to the fossil record.

After that, your work is done, it's pretty much on him to either not be a retard or continue acting retarded. It's not like you have to engage.

Don't argue with an idiot.

Yeah, I don't have to, but naturally I do.
We all moved in together, and so I feel compelled to want them to know better. I try to communicate as calmly as I can, but it's fucking almost impossible sometimes when you feel like everyone is against you.

I-along with my house mates-am majoring in music, so I tend to be often be surrounded by profoundly religious people; or people who just don't care about science, or even history. It's infuriating,

Here's a thought experiment:

A genie tells you that he can magically remove all scientific ignorance of one branch of science. With a snap of his fingers, people all over the world will no longer be susceptible to pseudoscientific humbuggery.

Which branch of science do you pick? I'd go with biology because of its importance in medicine.

i just microdose lucy or load myself up on stims and autistically read for hours straight while thinking about what i am reading some. the habit is getting built up enough so i do it sober now some too. cant say i recommend it though since it is easy to abuse and you could become some fucked up meth head who stays up fir 3 days straight jerking off the whole time while getting serious brain damage
>>
>>8728648
I'm trying to keep stims/drugs as a last resort or when a particulary shit exam comes up, I'm looking for tips which improve the "meta"
>>
>>8728663
hm, idk. just find a decent book in your area of interest and try to sit on the couch and unplug for a while and read a set amount of time a day. build habits slowly, your brain doesnt like shock. too much of something new makes your brain go nuts. think of how an acid noob would react to a tenstrip while a pro would be more ok with it. its like that but with studying

Would time seem to flow backwards during a "Big Crunch"? Is the point of maximum expansion the heat death of the universe? If so, how would energy begin to contract once again?

No.

There is no point, but that is the result.

Gravity would have to out accelerate dark energy. It won't.
>>
>>8728564
No no.
Its like... how would I describe it...
You know when you spill a bunch of jelly beans and put them back in the jar?

Same bits and bobs but all in a different order now. Except while they were out of the jar they got crushed. Same beans, different state.
>>
>>8728584
How do the beans get picked back up?

>>8728568
Can you explain dark energy with a pleasing jelly bean analogy?

How come more and more scientists are coming out saying black holes are bullshit, similar to dark matter, basically just mathematical constructs invented to make certain math models easier/workable...

God I hate peer-reviewed "studies" so much.

>>8728513
Black holes are nothingness and nothingness can't exist.
>>
>>8728513
Black holes are real, we can't see them directly but their gravitational effects prove the light consuming density.

Now then, there is some disagreement on the exact details like whether there is a true singularity in the center but that doesn't disprove the basic fact of them.

>>8728516
I somehow doubt "nothing" could be quite so massive.

I can't go too much into depth about the science since im not directly involved in the development of this, but there has been a breakthrough with propulsion that uses space itself as the neans to move. No confirmation on if it allows you to go "faster than light", but even if not, still a very big deal since this system only needs electricity. I dont expect you to believe me, but in a few weeks you wont have to. There will be a public demo and testing in the near future. Every rocket company on earth is going to wake up soon in a world where they are the equivilent of buggy whip manufacturers.
