Carnivorous plants are proof that the theory of evolution is either wrong or greatly flawed. What do you suppose happened, a plant one day thought to itself "you know what I'm sick of all this photosynthesis, I'm going to eat a bug"? What are the intermediate steps, plants that dabbled time to time on a tasty fly but still were normal plants as their day job? I just don't buy it. Not saying I have the answer to the question, just saying it's called the THEORY of evolution for a reason and next century we'll look back laughing at how we actually thought we had it figured out, just like we look back at flat earth and bloodletting, two things they "solved" centuries ago.

Hmm let's take a look
http://www.sarracenia.com/faq/faq5025.html
> The evolution of carnivorous plants is not well known. This is not because there is anything really mysterious going on, it is just that carnivorous plants do not have very rigid parts which are likely to get fossilized, nor do they make huge numbers of leaves each season to increase the chance of one being fossilized. I have no doubt there are great fossils of carnivorous plants someplace, but we just have not yet found them.

So not only can you not form your own argument, your snide "just google it" millennial battlecry has betrayed you. Sad generation, can't even question the world around them, since everything has been figured out by the all knowing internet.

We are allowed 1 meta thread per board. Can we clean /sci/ up a little? Lets ban all anons that call people brainlets (e.g. anyone that says X is a brainlet, where X is someone like feynman), they should be flat out banned.

We should kill IQ threads.
We should kill threads like the 'Signs you go to a brainlet university' one currently up (for at least a week).

We should kill obvious low quality bait threads
We should kill obvious low quality content threads

We should kill "is he, dare I say it our guy" threads

Anyone else agree?

this board is already one of the slowest on this site don't remove anything
>>
>>8743625
Two problems with this.

One is that removing shitpost would murder this board because it's way too slow without it.

Another is that your proposal hinges on /sci/ actually having moderators.
>>
>>8743625
/sci/ is a place for highschoolers and mentally deficient college freshmen to have retarded arguements. They are going to be childish no matter what.

4chan could employ strict moderation and age requirements, but they would drive away all their traffic, and they don't want that.

So what you get is a shitty 4chan-tier circlejerk losely based on an educational theme.

If you want serious discussion you have to leave. In fact there's very little to discuss with anyone, if you want to learn something you can read about it and then contact actual experts on the subject. /sci/ is completely useless and so is your life.

How does this molecule contain all the information about how to construct a human? I've heard that it doesn't actually contain the information about where every cell should be located, but instead defines the fractal pattern by which cells propagate, is that correct?

>>
Yes I think the localization of cells is mostly determined by the gradient of certain molecules provided by the mother (maternal effect genes, morphogens)

it contains codons which code for amino acids that make proteins

different cells produce different proteins in the body, depending on their location and transcription factors that act on them. so, by containing the genetic codons to make all the body's proteins, they determine how the body forms in an organism

all the geologists I've met are pretty cool, but don't really like talking about who exactly pays them.

lots of stories starting out like, I was in X national park on a survey when... why? oh you know some nonsense about fracking but anyway there I was .... yeah well they look at the parks all the time, its not like they are gonna do anything... no its public data, you know, it good to know whats under the dirt, and let me tell ya about that dirt!

>yeah I know Rex Tillerson, epa, rising oil prices yeah, water is important to, but ok are you going to let me tell you the story on how I got my friend to dig up my buried shit? I got a punchline and everything!

Is linguistics a science?

Part of it is rooted in neuroscience, right?

Not really (and I'm saying this as a big linguistics fan). It has some branches with lots of cool scientific applications, but it's not a science.

Moreover on the blocks, how could they be positioned there if the passage is smaller than the blocks themselves?
Yes, they could be placed there when the pyramid was under construction but it's wrong as the sarcophagus with the body of the pharaoh had to be placed up in the King chamber at a later time.
The blocks then must have been put there at a later time, when the pyramid was completed

/pol/ here, checking in to ask what are the prospects for artificial wombs? Will they arrive in time to prevent the extinction of the white race?

1. The most advanced technology would be a true artificial uterus, but that's certainly a long way off. There are too many hormones and biological functions for a machine to simulate.

2. The next best option would be to grow a human uterus and maintain it on life support. Do you think it would be possible to grow a human uterus in a cow?

3. Failing at that, the last resort would be interspecific pregnancy. The best hosts for this would be close relatives like chimpanzees and possibly also gorillas. Interspecific pregnancy has a high miscarriage rate due to immune rejection, and it results in premature births, but it is commonly used for other species nonetheless, and will almost certainly work for humans.

4. Alongside the difficulties with finding a suitable womb, the other big challenge is creating artificial eggs. Eggs can be created from embryonic stem cells and from ovarian stem cells. They have a high rate of genetic abnormalities, and so they will require a lot of screening to filter out the bad eggs. What is still needed is a way to make eggs from adult male stem cells. Eggs can be obtained from women, but what is really needed are technologies to enable men to reproduce without women.

Really... artificial? Given your lack of concern for life, why don't you just abduct beautiful white women for breeders and milkbags? I' sure it's cheaper, safer, more reliable, and Trump would allow it.

Hey cunts, does anyone else want to study linear algebra from Shilov's book? If so, you could join me on discord: https://discordapp.com/invite/3kZrUqz You could ask questions if you get stuck, and other anons would answer hopefully. I mean you neets and fags might as well learn something, instead of wasting away your lives in front of the computer, and the only prerequisite of linear algebra is a high-school level knowledge of math.

I'm studying precalc, can i handle linear algebra?
>>
>>8742124
Yeah, I think so. There is a mention of derivatives in the second chapter though, but it's not really important, just part of an example. Although I'm not entirely familiar with precalc, since I don't live in the US or whatever English speaking country.
>>
>>8742124
you just need decent algebra skills and some understanding of trig.

Hypothetically I have a machine that when turned on, will create an spectacular explosion that results in tremendous amount of disorder (=entropy).

The entropy in the universe can only rise or remain zero. Could I destroy this machine and its blueprints?

How about hypothetical machine that when turned on, would create spectacular amount of order.

Could I turn this machine on?

>>

> that results in tremendous amount of disorder (=entropy).

Wrong.

>The entropy in the universe can only rise or remain zero. Could I destroy this machine and its blueprints?

Of course, why would you not be able to? You don't have information propagating backwards in time.

>Could I turn this machine on?

Sure could.
>>
>>8741873
The whole point of the second law is that there can't be a machine generally decreases the entropy of the entire system. You can create a machine that creates local order, but at the price of increasing the overall entropy of the system (just like a freezer that can decrease the entropy of water by turning into ice, but at the cost of warming up it's surroundings).

I'm not saying that the universe isn't expanding, however I just simply can not fathom how it is even remotely possible for this to be true, when I really think about it.

Imagine the following in your head

>your body is moving through space
>you are the size of jupiter
>travelling at light speed
>eventually arrive to the exact point at which the universe is literally expanding and moving outwards(the edge of the universe)
What the hell would I see?
How can something expand if there is nothing behind it or outside of it?
But then again, the universe cant be finite because in order for it to have an ending, there MUST be something on the other side.
Not sure If I'm making sense, im half asleep and this has been messing with my head for awhile now.

The universe is homogenous. You will only ever see galaxies and galaxy clusters for as far as you go. There is no "edge." A finite universe is bounded only in higher dimensions or is complexly connected (3-manifold or whatever). Or the universe is infinite. Take your pick.
