Evidence has shown that ingesting psychedelic substances can restore a degree of neuro-plasticity to the brain. I'm not sure if many of you would be familiar with the concept of 'perfect pitch.' Perfect pitch is a coveted skill within the musical community that is simply the ability to recognise a note without a reference tone. This makes musical analysis and transcription incredibly easy, and revolutionises your coherency of musical theory. However, the skill can only be acquired when you are very young, when your brain is still learning and is flexible.

If I were to ingest a psychedelic substance and literally sit at my piano and play a single note for the entire duration of the trip, would I afterwards have created some neurological connection with that note that would persist even when the substance is out of my body?

I've been thinking about this for a while, some external feedback would be greatly appreciated.

While some may increase growth factors like BDNF, neurogenesis still occurs in adulthood, at least in the subventricular zone. There's no proof that these neurons survive and differentiate elsewhere in the brain.

SSRI's, fasting, and exercise all increase growth factors too. On their own, while growth factors may encourage new synapse formation.

Overall I'm not convinced your experiment will work, but it can't hurt to try.

t. neuroscience grad student who doesn't care for music or serotonergic hallucinogens (I'm assuming you're not referring to ketamine and similar NMDA antagonists with the umbrella term "psychedelic")

Anecdotally, when I was younger I had many friends who liked to play music and stuff while tripping and while some of them were quite serious in their pursuit of music, none of them had perfect pitch.

Whoops that was written poorly but I'm too tired to care. Effectively what I meant to communicate is that increasing neural growth factors doesn't necessarily increase learning. And I'm not sure if exposure to the same note again and again helps. Since I pretty much never read any papers involving auditory stuff.

Also I should say this is out of my area of research.

Any CSfags in here want to help me out?

I came across this program OllyDbg, and by messing around with it for a little, obviously it's purpose is to manipulate applications processes.

I saw that you can use this to "crack" paid applications. Being a WoT fag, I really want to crack this bot and see how good it really is.

I see that the application is written in assembly, so i'm trying to figure out the pathway to the application requesting, and verifying the product key.

Upon running the program, it hits a LEAVE twice, which i'm assuming is just the application loading the main, and the login window along with it's data.

After that, if you push an exception after the 2nd LEAVE it comes to a ADD.ESP.4

Being totally unfamiliar with assembly, i'm not sure what most of this means, i can only see how it works via process. I know that somewhere in between there, i'm trying to find the line that changes a hex value that correlates to a .dll in the system files that allows the application to proceed once given the key. No matter what breakpoints i've tried, nothing has really worked.

This could be very fun, and a great learning experience if anybody would like to join in, and assist a semi-noob coder.

I doubt it was written in assembly... too much work for writing high level logic and network handling. (of course you see assembly now, after the compiler translated it to assembly.) that add esp,4 and leave stuff is about the stack frame of a function call and has nothing to do with the stuff you're interested in. assembly is the most unintuitive form of reading code, so i would recommend you to look for a decompiler to get some more high level language output. good luck, semi coder.

placebo is mind on your body, so it doesn't really count.

Utopian pipe dream.

It isn't even a real political initiative. All it does is envision a post-scarcity economy, and that can only be driven by technological innovation.

Restructuring the way the world is governed won't lead to better manufacturing technology, at least not in any direct sense.

It would if we changed it so that to gain a position in a political office you need to develop a useful new technology or improve an existing one in a meaningful way

Hi /sci/,
I buy a math book with exercices for fun, and I need to find the bigest n in N*
For (n+10) | (n^(3)+100)

I have the correction of that but I do not understand how the author came to the conclusion that n+1=900

With this factorisation:
n^(3)+100 = (n+10)(n^(2)-10n+100)-900

I thank you for your time /sci/

>>
if n+10 divides n^3+100

then n^3+100=k(n+10) for some integer k

so using that and the factorisation you have

n^3+100=k(n+10)=(n+10)(n^(2)-10n+100)-900

rearranging gives
-900
=k(n+10)-(n+10)(n^(2)-10n+100)
=(n+10)[k-(n^(2)-10n+100)]

and so n+10 divides -900 (equivalently n+10 divides 900)

Hello /sci/ I have a question that has puzzled me for my entire conscious life. It is related to optics and light. Whenever I look a light for example street light, small led, or star I can squint my eyes to the point of seeing double. The thing is though when I do this the small bright light source gets bigger in my vision. I makes small round shape in my vision. Inside this shape are random patterns of light and darkness. I sketched an example of the pattern I'm talking about to show this better. It looks like a really high definition lense flare to be honest. My question is wtf is this shape? What causes the pattern? Does it depend on the light, is it random, or is it my eye.

Usually when we squint our eyes, the eyelashes cause a diffraction pattern similar to the lens flare effect. http://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/34222/squinting-at-street-lights
>>
>>8730949
Think of the double slit experiment. It only starts acting strange when the slits are very small (it wouldn't work with a meter wide slit, for example). Only then does the interference start occurring.
When you squint hard enough, the light that enters your eyes starts acting as if it's going through a narrow slit, and therefore starts interfering with itself (and creating those weird shapes in the process).
>>
>>8730964
That would make parallel lines if it was my eyelashes. Anyways it works when I pull my eyelashes back.

Hello, tard here no knowledge of any of what i'm talking about. Just wanted to see if people had any answers.
1)
If it is possible by some miracle that time machines were a thing in the future, would it be possible to go back in time before you were to die of old age. Meaning relive your life in the same way with no copy of you of that lives alongside you while you relive your life?
2)
If you are to do the same thing as the first subject. Would there be possibilities of being to change your own life, breaking how you experienced your life before, making dramatic changes to your old life. But still living in that same timeline where you also did some stuff that you had done before.
3)
Is there any way that if you made different changes to your old timeline that you would be able to make a new timeline where everything else turns out to be completely different, you've basically made a new branch in time or made a new universe. That would be completely different.
4)
Would there be possibilities to where time has not predetermined what will happen, and with this knowledge you'd be free to do whatever you would want to. Nothing would be predetermined.
5)
If some or many or all laws unknown and know where to be non-applicable in other universes but still had surviving and striving species intelligent enough to do such things as visit other universes or break free from time, would it be possible that they would find us and show us what they have experienced, and give us first hand experiences as well, would their lives be predetermined to as they would visit our predetermined lives or would they have control of themselves and what happens around them and vice versa.

You can't go back in time.
You can theoretically travel faster than light. This allows you to be "from the future" but you still wouldn't be able to interact with the past.

What's done is done, you can't relive your past unless you consider that the vastness of the universe means that there's a chance there's another earth where everything is and happens exactly the same as it has here.

You could go there and replace your alternate self.
>>
>>8730852
Wouldn't there be a universe where you could go back in time though, where some laws wouldn't apply and you were free to do as you pleased, going back in time or forward, such as in #5), where you could have that universe come to us, able to not be applicable to our universes laws and do as they pleased.
