If quantum manipulation was hypothetically possible, how would one go about achieving it?

And what kind of benefits would be attainable if we could do it?

You could see the fall of man, or the next step in evolution. Pretty much the equivalent of what happened with Einstein and the era surrounding him.

Imagine being able to first teleport a flower pot with a live plant. Society at first thinks it will be used for good, then they find out that there are extreme dangers. How will this effect the technology ethically? Will it be taboo to make something like that commercial - could it be the next step in transportation of goods? Then 5 years later nuclear weapons can be teleported at any moment. Then a couple years after that they find out how to teleport large areas. Then you can have entire populations die in seconds just by teleporting them into space, then teleporting the land mass back into place - like it almost never happened.

The real issue here is - how do we map and it memorize it in a machine form. How do we use it to benefit man? Can a single common man in his garage make a WMD? These are the real questions.
>>
>>8795348
If WMD is a wave motion detector, than surely all of the pieces used to create the technology should be available to the public, if you can make all of the individual parts in your garage, then surely an exceptional enough individual would be capable of making it in their garage.

Quantum manipulation could already benefit man with a more efficient means of transportation, and possibly even structural atomic manipulation.

But as for how you would go about making it in a machine form, do we have technology that reaches atomic scale or are we still stuck at nano-levels?

Why does it lower the melting point of ice? What is this mechanic called? And why does ethanol do it better than sodium chloride?
>>
>>8795089
>Why does it lower the melting point of ice?
You'd have to find a chemist, I don't know.

>And why does ethanol do it better than sodium chloride?
I'd imagine because the mixture formed would have an even lower melting point. But again you'd have to find a chemist to be certain.

Keeps all shitty threads vaguely related to science.
Delete posts with actual mathematical content because muh homework.

Keeps threads with overly suggestive pictures/anime.
Delete a thread because "oh my god this pixel is actually a nipple!".

The question this raises, is, are /sci janitors actual brainlet, or are they just pretending and this is a conspiracy ?

I remember when /a/ janitors started deleting the "ITT: overrated shit" threads. Sad times.

I'm shit at abstract thinking.

I'm an engineer and I tend to think autistically. If I know the parameters (e.g. a game like chess, or boundary conditions for a problem, or the language for programming) its easy to solve a problem, once you have the "tools".

But the truly brainy people are the ones who create new tools, not combine existing tools to solve a problem. So how do I improve my abstract thinking ability, and in doing so, create new thought tools?

>But the truly brainy people are the ones who create new tools, not combine existing tools to solve a problem. So how do I improve my abstract thinking ability, and in doing so, create new thought tools?

You create new tools by trying to solve problems that cannot be easily solved by existing tools and trying to come up with an easier way of solving that problem.
>>
>>8794664

As for abstract thinking, I would recommend learning some applied mathematics. It will teach you how to convert real world problems into abstract mathematical problems.
>>
All tasks work that way: you have boundary conditions and logic between them, then find a smooth solution.

Just learn English is more easy , and you will get more option
1-Numerical set
2-functional analysis
3-Limits
4-Continuity
5-Derivative
6-application of Derivative

I'm Portuguese (spanish is shit language señor)

this.

OP, GMOs are equally as safe as eating """""Organic"""""". And I use lots of quotes because """organic""" foods have already been genetically modified by farmers via selective breeding. The new "GMO" is just a faster technique to do it artificially. So if you don't like GMOs, stop eating

If nothing can escape from a black hole once it goes inside, why do black holes evaporate their mass away? Is Stephen Hawking full of shit?
16 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>8793952
Well if hawking is to be believed then virtual particles(paies) spawned exactly at the edge add of the black hole 'add' negative energy to the black hole thus it evaporates mass when creating a real particle(or just pure energy)
>>
>>8793993
Explain further
>>
A black hole is a singularity, therefore it has no real mass, or any that we can determine with modern technology. I think you mean the event horizon, so I'll reply on the basis that that's what you meant.
Hawking radiation. There ya go.

Am I autistic? I can't fucking comprehend highschool math. I know this is bad, and I need to in like a year. Is it enough? I can't concentrate at all...been trying to solve some simple equations and was completely blind of the fucking square paranthesis around the fractions.

How can I be this retarded? Also, important to mention, I know most of the theoretical concepts, just always miss something when solving. I really need help /sci/. I mean, I'm planning on practising everyday from now on, but besides that is there anything else I can do for the next year? I don't know how pathetic it may sound...all this...but my whole future hangs in the balance.

I'm in the same boat as you, I can't concentrate for shit. I do well with abstract thinking, but I really struggle with concrete and logic based issues.

Stimulants seem attractive, but they're not a viable long term solution. I wish I could somehow stop being defunct in this respect.

Log[(z+5)/(z^2+3z+2)]

How is this analytic on the real segment (-2,-1)? Log is the is the principal branch of the complex logarithm.

Some book I'm using to revise complex analysis says this is the case.

factor z^2+3z+2 brainlet

also there's a stupid question thread
>>
>>8793602

Roots are z=-1 and z=-2, so not analytical on there. I'm asking about the interval (-2,-1).

The argument for

Log[(z+5)/(z^2+3z+2)]

is negative on that segment. Can it still somehow be analytical or is the book wrong?
>>
>>8793600
because you can expand it as a power series locally at all points obviously

use another branch

Would it be feasible? Would it be possible?

Would it be something worthwhile for Australia to undertake?

I think the reason the interior of Australia is so dry and hot is actually simply because it's dry and hot; the heat bubble prevents moisture laden winds from blowing across the continent. The lack of rain allows the ground to dry out, which allows it to heat up, which drives off rain, which allows it to remain hot indefinitely.

However, by starting close to the west coast of Australia where there is still a fair amount of rainfall, and by planting rows of trees year after year slowly advancing towards the interior, wouldn't the increased vegetation and thus cooler ground temperatures lead to increased rainfall? Thus, cementing the newly planted artificial forest as a permanent feature that would continue to exist and develop without any human management? The extreme heat of the interior prevents new forests from growing because the seeds cannot take root, and in fact can be killed outright by the surface temperature, but hardy tree saplings planted by humans would be able to establish themselves and survive. As the newly planted tree line advanced into the interior of Australia where it is currently extremely dry, they would bring with them a front of relatively cool moist air, thus pushing the climate from a desert towards a much more forgiving and more temperate condition. Eventually the planted tree line would reach all the way to the east coast, at which point it'd probably make sense to start over again by spreading seeds of less hardy but faster growing plants and ground covering plants, until eventually an entire multilayered and vast forest was established.

I'm pretty sure that by doing this we'd only be reversing the consequences of some horrible event in the past that turned Australia from a regular land mass into a flaming eternal desert.

>>
>>8793146
This is actually quite interesting.
Of course Australia has the great artesian basin but i doubt that its large enough to make much of that land usable, and the east coast needs it.
so what methods would you purpose to do this?
all i can think is a fuck load of desalination plants (nuclaer or solar powered) built in SA that pump clean water into the centre of the country. once significant amounts of biomass accumulate some water should remain in the system, although it never will be independant
>>
how bout just replacing the rabbit proof fence with a rabbit proof canal, that way you have water being spread all the way across, and whilst it would be saline, you would be able to grow beach style vegetation near it and the evaporation would lead to more vegetation further away form it. an it would also have the benifit of stopping them damn cane toads
in fact get me my shovel
