I've been reading a lot of physics books lately and want to start getting into the math of it. Where do I start?
the math of it? you mean the actual physics? pick up a textbook, they sell them on amazon. If you know calculus try young and freedman or kleppner and kolenkow
>>8846188
Yes, the actual physics.
>Young and Freedman
Found the textbook in pdf for free thanks for that.
Anything recommendations for cosmology?

I'd start with counting. Try integers at first.
Can someone here provide me with a scientific argument against eugenics?
Chihuahuas
You wind up with a less diverse gene pool, leading to higher rates of inbreeding effects as the generations wear on. This includes weaker immune systems, lower average muscle mass, paler skin, larger foreheads, and a higher than average rate of messed up teeth. There's a reason island nations like the UK, New Zealand, and Japan all have these same traits among their nationalities.
You would run the danger of making humans a specialist species and in turn increase our vulnerability to extinction events i.e. disease outbreaks.
Can you guys help me with a quadratic equation?
Equation;
0 = R1^2 - 200R1 - 75000
I want to know the value of R1
Applying my shitty likely wrong formula;
R1 = -200-√(-200^2) -4 (1) x (75000) / 2 (1)
I get syntax error...anyone know where I'm going wrong?

>>8845708
wow very educational, wish I was as smart as you bro...Obviously I have tried to work it out but i'm lost
a = 1
b = -200
c = -7500
Try the formula again. What do you mean, a syntax error? An error from what?
bet you brainlets aren't even pure math majors heh
>>8845636
I'm way too brainlet to attempt to reach that stratosphere of unemployment.
>>8845639
I've been employed since I finished high school, it sucks, it's far better to delude yourself with mathematics full time.

So, we can all agree that this is pseudo-science bullshit, right?

the book or your shitpost?

it is more mental masturbation than anything, but serves as a decent introduction to the philosophy of math and science.

My daughter will be watching it, that's for sure. I hope it's still on when my son's old enough too.
>>8845553
You made sure to show her Cosmos first right anon?
I wish it wasn't performed live in front of an audience and more like Penn and Teller's bullshit so that way the writers had more time to figure out what they wanted to say.
Also the "Dear white people" part made me cringe
What books helped you fix your life? Whatever it was, if you could recommend anything that was more than just a ''cookbook list'' on how to take control back, recommend it.
Been looking for a while for pic related, but could never find a download.
I know this is not science nor math, but you guys are way better than any other board out there (and I would never take any advice from /adv/)

The Cause and Cure of Malocclusion
my life wouldnt be the same without it
Sup /sci/, its /tg/. I have a question for my setting.
In my game, there is a race of spirits who can turn intangible, do not require food, water, or sleep, and can fly at around 60 MPH in an atmosphere.
Assuming their flight acts in a manner similar to propulsion, what would their max speed and rate of acceleration be in the vacuum of space? Would they continue only moving 60 MPH, or would they rapidly accelerate into ridiculous space speeds due to constant acceleration or some other "weird science" principle?
what causes their limit of movement to be 60mph? if they are intangible, that implies that friction does not apply to them and there would be no difference between moving through space or an atmosphere.
If they can turn intangible, then they could move just as fast in earth by just remaining intangible while flying. That would obviously negate all air resistance.
>>8845439
Well the real answer is "Magic", I probably won't actually include your answer in the campaign. If I wanted to round the cow here I'd rephrase the question
"If you take an object traveling 60 MPH through a source of propulsion at the back of the object and move it from an atmosphere to a vacuum, what happens to its speed and acceleration?"
I'm tired my friends. The thing is, I'm an undergrad and this is my second semester. Being honest, the first semester was a piece of cake, but now I'm struggling with subjects like linear algebra and classical mechanics, and it's not like I want to blame someone because of my lack of capacity into doing it well in University, but, my God, I dare to say I've never had the worst professors in my entire life.
They don't teach me anything, and if they do, the material isn't in the homework or in the exams. Is Uni supposed to be like this? Professors "giving" you material and you are supposed to learn everything by yourself?
I respect professors since they are good investigators, but in the matter of teaching, they don't know a shit. Have any of you had this problem? How did you solved it?
TL;DR: I'm a brainlet because I can't learn the way professors are trying to teach me or is the blame of the professors for not knowing how to teach?
>>8845232
If teaching was a professor's job, the university would force them to get a degree in education
Harden up or drop out
>>8845232
yes, time to start learning bud
>is Uni supposed to be like this?
No
>is it like this?
Yes
I don't mind as you have to read the books and do the problems to actually learn something. I just go to class to keep up to date on things.
>should I blame the professors?
I'm sure what is listed in the program is what comes out in the exam unless you go to some shit tier Uni. Everyone deals with it so it's just you
Do social "science" labs exist ?
I cant imagine a sociology "lab"
it's called society

I'm a very successful physics undergraduate.
However, I've always had a profound respect for those with unusual spiritual and nonscientific beliefs about existence.
It is not important whether these individuals are right or wrong. Rather simply the ability to experience existence from a unique perspective is valuable.
>>8843921
>Rather simply the ability to experience existence from a unique perspective is valuable.
to whom? and for what purpose?
Yeah I agree
>>8843933
it is valuable to the human who takes pleasure in open conscious experience. Life is not a competition. There are no good boy points for following the rules of conscious experience.
It is valuable to the scientist looking to be creative and utilize the mind in a new way through new habits of thought.
It is also valuable to our humanity.
scientifically speaking, why are left handers so superior to right handers?
>>8843708
Because they have shorter lifespans, and therefore use less resources.
>>8843708
Because they have smaller dicks, and therefore use less resources.
Because they use less resources, they have smaller dicks and shorter lifespans.
