I was playing bioshock and wondered if this was the best way to go about building an underwater city. What do you guys think. Is there a better way of sustaining life under water

Underwater cities are generally a dumb idea. There's reasons to put a research outpost underwater, but a city would gain nothing from it.

>Hey guys, did a bunch of retarded videogame designers have the best ideas for an underwater city or could there be better ways to do it?

Answered your own question there pal.

I just imagine the existence of a finite universe. Then it should be a compact manifold. In that case, does this manifold should have a boundary?

Heres my hypothesis

Everybody who likes, has a profile picture or something related to this from Makise Kurisu is:

1. A pretentious smug faggot with a superiority complex
2. Somebody who thinks is smarter than everybody else he comes in contact with and wants to let everybody know because ''Lol XD I indentify with le super genius girl''

Its been 6 months and I think I am correct. Every makise faggot I've met fits on either one of those categories.

I know that physicists in general do way more calculations than mathematicians, because math students are more concerned about concepts and formalization at some level, but these motherfuckers are simply too good.

I'm currently studying mathematics at my uni, but my friends from the physics department are incredibly skilled in calculus, for example. They can solve or at least approximate ODEs just by looking at it, and their perception of the subject is simply superior to mine, maybe because they create a bond between math and real life almost every day.

Also, theoretical physicists. There's no such thing as "hard mathematical concepts" for them, it's like everything's simple. I envy those motherfuckers.

Does it make any sense? Pic related, a very smart cookie.

looking at this piece of garbage at face value, it's probably one of the worst possible designs someone could come up with for an aircraft. it would be impossible to control and tend to turn upside down dumping the pilot out if you didn't have perfect balance, and even then you would simple go up or down.

tl;dr if you made this for some propulsion class you'd get an F

There would be no tides and earth would freeze due to lack of tidal heating. The lack of tides would cause the core to stop rotating (due to friction) and our magnetic field would be destroyed. With no magnetic field solar flares would destroy all electricital equipment.

Why does no one know about him outside of academic mathematicians? I never hear anything about him even though he is probably the greatest mathematician of the 20th century. You can hear about Hilbert, Gödel, Turing, Erdös, Ramanujan, Hardy but Grothendieck gets almost no recognition in our wider culture despite his turbulent life witch you would think would make him a more popular figure.

No one's written a popular biography about him yet; it'll happen soon enough, and then we'll get a biopic like with Turing and Ramanujan.

Planning on doing EE next year, what can I expect?

I had a hard time choosing between CS and EE. Mostly because I already know some CS and have no idea what to expect from EE
But I heard EE students can get hired easily in software jobs, but CS would have trouble getting into hardware jobs.

Taking regular study breaks is a meme that only brainlets adopt. I study till lunch, take 1.5 hours to eat and freshen up, rinse and repeat for dinner. Why the fuck can't you sit for 4 hours straight to do something. I'm sure you've sat way longer taking exams, don't tell me that exams are different.

Is there a greater IQ variance among males, /sci/?
34 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
IQ is pseudoscience. stop perpetuating it.
>>
Can we please stop making IQ threads? I have a shitload of anxiety about the concept, having scored slightly below average for my major. I refuse to believe it's a meaningful concept. There's just no fucking way other people are that many levels smarter than me. The brain just doesn't work that way. It doesn't have that much variation.

There's a greater variance among males for almost every statistic (including IQ).
Which makes perfect sense from an evolutionary standpoint: women are almost guaranteed to reproduce, while men must compete for the privilege.

This, it isn't like you actually have to understand these things in a modern classroom.
All the work is one for you, you just read from a book, give out premade assignments and grade them based on an answer sheet

It is proof that our model doesn't suffice for some observations we make, that is all.

How can you explain that the experiment has different a result if there is an observer? How the atoms 'know' that they are observed?

"The only thing that went through the mind of the bowl of petunias as it fell was Oh no, not again".

Many people have speculated that if we knew exactly why the bowl of petunias had thought that we would know a lot more about the nature of the Universe than we do now.
>>
>>8844363
>Part 1
>"You might call it tachyons, monopoles, gravition"
They're three different things, and they aren't """energy"""

>"Photons have mass "(~1:30)
That comes from an incorrect use of [math] E=mc^2 [/math], that only works for stationary particles, the full version [math] E^2 = (mc^2)^2 +(pc)^2 [/math] shows that something can have energy without having mass.

>"What this is, is a model for sound, for resonance, for harmonics" (~3:00)
Well harmonic motion is already pretty well modeled, it's more complected than just drawing some numbers on circle.

>[paraphrased] "The numbers 1 to 9 are all the single diget numbers known" (~3:40)
So....no 0 then.

>[paraphrased] "The only math functions are basic arithmetic operations" (~5:10)
lol, seriously?

>Explanation of "The Symbol" (~7:00 onwards)
So he's discovered the integers mod 9?

typical sky in LA at night.png
383KB, 602x393px
I've lived in LA my entire life and just recently I found out that some of the lights I see in the sky are actual stars. I thought they were just planes for my whole life until I decided to keep an eye on them and realized they weren't moving and stayed in the same spot each night. I didn't think they were stars because the sky here looks nothing like the pictures of skies you see online with a ton of bright stars. I guess that's because there's so much light and pollution or something blocking the sky so it doesn't look as pure as it would in a rural place. I feel like I missed out on something nice. I'm watching videos on stargazing now and none of that would even be possible where I live. I mean they are so subtle that I barely managed to notice them now. Anyway I'm trying to figure out what stars I can see exactly. Online it says the brightest one is Sirius and I think I have that one spotted along with one other one in the constellation with it. What do you think?
