How do you deal the fact that you will forever be an absolute brainlet, an amoeba, in comparison to Einstein, Euler, Gauss, etc?

How do you deal with the fact that you will never be a great mathematician who contributes something valuable to the world and has a theorem named after him?

I guess I just can't accept mediocrity, yet I am mediocre. Smarter than average, smarter than most people I know, but nothing compared to people who are truly smart.

I don't know about you but if you can't dedicate yourself into your field that well, you will never make it.

It's not only about the brain but also about the dedication, if all of the people you mentioned were not dedicated to their respective focused fields, they would have done some other things and never do something amazing with their intelligence, see arts and philosophy.

But IMO, if you couldn't do anything in your lifetime despite being dedicated as fuck, at least you could try to make your kids enjoy math at an early age, like when a father does something and the kid loves him, the little one will imitate their father a lot, etc.
If you cannot be great, at least make your kid great, since notice that most of these geniouses parents were already into that but not that famous like you believe you will become, but look at what they did "made", a bunch of influential geniouses that made a fuckton of things.

So don't feel like shit, instead of spending your time being like this, start doing and stop thinking like that.
Because once you are worryfree about this, you will enjoy math and science a lot more and you may not even realize later on that you made a revolutionary contribution, all of this because you dedicated yourself to that science, just like them waifufags at certain places on 4chan are dedicated to their (cute) waifus.

>How do you deal the fact that you will forever be an absolute brainlet, an amoeba, in comparison to Einstein, Euler, Gauss, etc?

I don't care. Maturity means accepting that you won't be one of the great heroes of the world...but you can still have some fun. I study what I study because even if there were nothing left to discover, no stones left unturned, no fame to be won, I would still do it. If I lived in some universe in which all scientific and mathematical inquiry had passed on to super intelligent machines, I would still study, I would have some fun and see if I could keep up.

>Not realizing that reality is a self-configuring system that is autoconsistent and self-containing

You should all enlighten yourselves. Prove Christopher Langan's CTMU wrong if you can. Of course it takes some intelligence to read, so most of the plebeians on this "science" board will just resort to ad hominem attacks.

Apostol / Spivak
unless you never learned and you don't want to actually review? just memorize or whatever? in that case steward or something
>>
I don't really like Spivak, and I don't really understand the american autism towards this book, like it's holy or something. It will take you 1.000 years to solve all the exercises, because none of them are trivial. But if you like a challenge, sure, go for it.

I'd go with Apostol or one of the russian books I forgot the name, they're pretty good too.

I did first year calc in the past, single variable differentiation, integration, infinite series etc. I have to finish a second year calc course covering differential equations and other series things, so I feel I need a fairly good grasp of the material.

There was a riddle a few days ago on /ic/ >>>/ic/2955495
I checked if it was coded in bases other than 10 but the numbers seem to go from 0 to 9 so it could be a letter number cipher type of thing.
I tried to sum the numbers vertically and horizontally and use Euclid's algorithm to reduce the numbers to the interval of 1 to 26 and 27 because it could be in Hebrew (sort of like a maximum modulo operation) but it only gave me gibberish.
I was pretty sure after I tried other different approaches that OP was just trolling because he posted it in /ic/ and not on a board like /sci/ where more people would have a decent shot to crack it and it got me thinking.
How secure can a cipher be if the message that it was used for was simple to crack but the people who were trying to crack it were using advanced methods thinking it would be very hard to do so given the advancements in cryptography?
Can AI create ciphers so advanced that humans won't be able to solve?
Is cryptography a spectrum? if so is it autism spectrum?

Are animal species a spectrum? Just because an animal has dog genes assigned at birth, does it really make it a dog?
45 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
Good question. It probably is. But is a gender of an animal a spectrum as well? Can my dog be trans?
>>
they quite literally are a spectrum. taxonomy is not as precise of a model as population genetics.
>>
>>8873258
Not really animal species, the definition here is rigid: the ability to produce fertile offspring.

What intrigues me more is bacteria species, since they reproduce by simply dividing, there are no real "parents". Additionally, bacteria can exchange genes during their lifetimes with completely different species of bacteria through plasmids, transposons and general uptake of DNA. How the fuck are species defined among bacteria? Any microbiologist or just a well educated person here to answer?

We have inborn knowledge, when you see a stick on the ground, probably your first instinct is to grab it
Any other animal just wouldn't, they would walk by it without even pay attention, but not humans. It's a basic instinct of humans to manipulate and create tools, inborn knowledge is so subtle that no one really notices it.

I'm not arguing that we don't, just wondering how much research has been put into this.

Let's make an assumption that learning a new skill or a behavior = making certain synaptic connections in the central nervous system.

Natural selection favors those individuals or populations that learn a skill faster than others, as new skill -> increased chance to survive -> more offspring. Selection favors those that can make those certain synaptic connections at a younger age.

Eventually individuals that have those synaptic connections "hard-wired" will have the most advantage, as they don't need to spend time and resources to learn that skill. All they need is a key stimulus to launch that certain behavior.

In order to make math genius babies there should be selection for math skills. Let only the talented ones make more babies.

Why don't we just put big balloons on factories pipes that gets filled up with all the greenhouse gases, when the balloons are filled up with just release them.

When they're far out enough, we shoot the ballon, making it explode and releasing the gases, that way they won't effect us.

If the gases can make a balloon rise far enough up to not be a problem, then the gases would rise that far up on their own, as well.

I compiled this list of techniques for maximum brain gains. Thoughts?

>Find a quiet place
>Take notes
>Identify what you need to know
>Run through the contents
>Ask questions about the topic you're learning about (Don't use Google, ask yourself)
>Memorize the concept, remind yourself of it the next day, then 10 days, then 30 days, then 60 days
>Study for 45 minutes, then take a 5 minute break, after a while slowly increase that to one hour
>Keep the room temperature warm
>Don't drink, smoke or do drugs
>Change the subject after your break
>Take a walk for your break
>Talk with people about the subject you are learning
>Learn how to apply the method of loci and major system for memorizing large amounts of information
>Use brain exercises such as n-back
>Listen to what you're learnng (if you're learning English, listen to BBC)
>Solve every problem, assignment and any tasks given to you by the textbook
>Sleep 8 hours and make sure you get the necessary amount of calories you need
>Always study with your peers
>Ask your tutor/professor with experience who can offer insight into the industry
>Watch lectures/videos on the topic you're learning

What's up /sci/, i have a question for anyone who is a comp sci stud or just anyone who is generally into programing.

I am a third year student at a major university, and my current major is applied mathematics. I am formally a mechanical engineering major but i soon switched out because i got my ass kicked in programing classes.

Out of all of the classes i have taken so far, i stuggle SO hard with programing. I took a basic Mat-Lab class my freshman year & i got a low C, even with my best effort. Now i am seeing that my major will require more programming down the road & I am scared shitless. It just doesn't come naturally to me, and i can't seem to write some of the simplest programs without an aid helping me get through it. I study & i even try home projects just for fun to expand my skills, but i feel stuck. I just don't understand why, i have aced all my math (Calc 1-Difeq), most of my stats classes & I always heard that the two fields of study go hand in hand. But, I feel as if my programing is holding me back from applying my math skills.

Any advice for strengthening my programing problem solving?

Dude, you're just in the 2nd page, calm down.

Anyway, I don't have any experience on programming and shit like that but you should ask on /g/ as well.
Make a thread there or search on the respective programming threads so they may help you.
But I don't guarantee it.

And /sci/ will help you soon, see >>8874496
however remember this board is kind of slow but sadly it's a little faster because of the shitposting about Nye.

All scientific and engineering fields and be reduced to mathematics.

So, why do people study anything other than mathematics? Are they too unintelligent to comprehend anything above basic caluclus?

People claim science can be reduced to math but I'm as to how. How would you make a scientific breakthrough just be doing math alone?
