WHY DOES EVERYONE KEEP IGNORING THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE COMING GLOBAL ECOLOGICAL COLLAPSE...

OVERPOPULATION?

The root cause is carbonated fountain drinks.

population is stable in america
we are powerless where it counts
however, the root cause of global warming, from an american perspective, is the way we produce our food.
and noone wants to change that.
>>
>>8893901
The people who know this aren't responsible for the problem. It's the third-world shitholes and developing ex-shitholes that just keep plopping out kids.

It will get a little bit warmer and some poor people will die. I'll be ok, you will probably be fine too.

getting there, at the current pace we're going past the point of no return of 450 ppm around 2030

What properties of platinum and rhodium/palladium allow these metals to separate nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons in catalytic converters?
21 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
they catalyse reactions that degrade pollutants into water vapor and carbon dioxide, hence CATALYTIC convertic
>>
>>8897734
OP is asking how they do it that. How do catalysts work

It's probably too complicated for /sci/
>>
>>8897734
So would the nitrogen oxides naturally break down into N2 and O2 eventually, since catalysts don't actually create a reaction, they just speed it up?

what is the best way to become better at math. how does one learn math well. if math doesn't click should one quit trying to pursue math and science. i am told that if this sort of thing doesn't come naturally then you will never be very good at it but only mediocre. i want to be a scientist but i really hate the idea of being mediocre (perhaps it is egotistical to want to be really good and discover new and fun things)

I would suggest not memorizing stuff and instead trying to work it out yourself as if you were "inventing" the math you're trying to study.
That way, you can actually start from 0 and slowly build up solid mathematical knowledge.
Mathematics isn't something you memorize because someone asked you to, you will slowly realize it's beauty and usefulness.
As soon as you start getting into it, you will be quite interested in doing aditional research and you will become addicted.
Don't worry if you don't get everything super quickly, it's better to slowly build a solid understanding of mathematics rather than memorizing for a few weeks and then forgetting everything. Mathematics is so elegant that soon it will all start making sense to you, to the point at which you can probably say "Oh, I could have probably invented this theorem / solve this problem myself.".
Mathematics is elegant and makes logical sense, so I suggest using reason more than memory.
In other words, don't try to memorize a lot of random information, DO the math and "feel it" in your brain.

I guess..
>>
>>8896766
that is some of the best advice i have ever received. thank you.
>>
>>8896690

Practice.

You don't just "get good" at math overnight, or a semester, or a year. You have to get used to thinking in math logic, which is not the natural way the brain likes to think.

>>

The goal is to be able to control what you think about. The benefits are pretty self evident: more focus, more discipline, stress reduction ect. Meditation is practicing that skill by attempting to think about nothing for a period of time.

ITT you can ask any question about domestic shit.

I'll start: when doing laundry in your fucking bathtub, do you have to then twist them inside a detergent-less water to get rid of most of the detergent? Or is it just some retarded useless ritual (since there's still plenty of detergent left, unless you change water like 10 fucking times).

>>
>>8893411
You should do a rinse with clean water. A refill will still have residual detergent, but much less than the wash water.
>>
>>8893411

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR FUCKING ASS?!

I use paper towels and then rinse my anus neighborhood with a shower tube with unscrewed head, but guess what THERE'S STILL PLENTY OF SHIT THAT FINDS IT'S WAY ON MY FUCKING UNDERPANTS AND THEN IT'S LIKE THAT'S IT.

What the fuck is the solution? TAKING A SHOWER AFTER EACH SHITTING PROCEDURE IS NOT FUCKING ACCEPTED. Give me something practical.

There are no wet wipes in my country. Not for wiping ass anyway, just small things for hands, but they are extremely inconvenient.

Suppose Tim is an expert at playing chess, but Bob is an expert at selling a product. Furthermore, Bob is weak at chess, and Tim is weak at selling products. Furthermore, assume Tim and Bob have the same looks, and differ only in mannerisms and actions.

It turns out this is quite common in the real world. The "geek" vs the "people person."

Is it as simple as saying that since Chess is a game of computation, that Tim is universally more intelligent than Bob? To say Tim is universally more intelligent than Bob, you have to prove that high-level Chess is a harder "game" than, say, getting laid or selling something. If what Bob does is so simple, and Tim is so much smarter, why is Tim still a virgin at 29?
>>
>>8897738

Because being smart won't get you laid.

Hey /sci/,

I'm watching my engineering school classmates high-five each other over how they're totally "scientists" too.

What's a good counterargument to that?

I hate to see yet another group of engineers start down the slippery slope of thinking their expertise is general rather than specific.

>>
In the real world they work together and respect each other's talents. And the engineer fucks the scientist's wife after taking her out to dinner in his Mercedes S65 AMG
>>
Also consider this:
PhD engineer
>conducts research
>hired with job title "Research Scientist"
>knows fuckload of specific physics in his field
>performs work using math and scientific method

>BS in chemistry
>literally uses lookup tables

B-but the first guy has engineer in his name he-he's not a SCIENTIST LIKE ME

kys autists

P.S. even if the PhD engineer doesn't get called a scientist he has more than enough money to make himself feel better that a bunch of broke cucks think he isn't (((cool)))

Earth's sidereal day is actually a few minutes less than 24 hours, 23 hours 56 minutes and 4 seconds to be precise.
The Solar day is 24 hours because the Earth takes a few minutes to rotate that extra little bit to have the sun in the same position in the sky.
>>
>>8897046
Huh?
>>
Be precise. The longitude of the Earth directly facing the Sun is always at 12:00pm. The time of the day is not the same everywhere on Earth. On the leftmost Earth in your picture, it's 12:00pm for the people on the brightest side. On the rightmost Earth, it's 12:00pm for those people on the brightest side. On the bottom Earth, it's 12:00pm for the people on the bright side that you can't see.
