Is it possible to get through this cover to cover between now and September? I've taken a year of calculus-based introductory physics and math up to ODEs, vector calculus, and linear algebra.
>>8945018
Maybe.
I'd study some more basic "Modern Physics" (i.e. something like the modern physics section of http://a.co/j3A1AhM or even http://a.co/aC3PCcl) before tackling Shankar so you have a solid base to build on conceptually. You'll get more out of it that way. Also, for your first time with QM you'd probably be better off with Griffiths. Shakar is more rigorous, but Griffiths is written to be introductory and is superior for that purpose, in my opinion.

What is he holding? What is the goat doing there?
Anyone read this book?
How was it?
>how not to be wrong
Find specific, SPECIFIC empirical evidence before stating any conclusions.

i've seen something like this before
I just marathonned this book
Let me know what i thunk of it
When you feel up to it
I'm trying to just jump headfirst into learning Chaos Theory by myself, so /sci/ where do I start and should I learn anything prior?
first you must become a master of chaos itself
>>8944171
Don't. If you think "chaos theory" is its own field then you don't know what you're talking about and you're just following a popsci meme.
>>8944171
First listen to Jordan B. Peterson and conquer the chaos within yourself. Start by cleaning your room
I'm trying to understand it (non-science background here), because I read in a book it led to much chemistry discoveries. Wikipedia doesn't do an eloquent job, imo. Is it that light can have either positive or negative static or zero static electric properties?
>>8944026
light is an oscillation of the electromagnetic field.
imagine stretching a spring out. this is represents an electromagnetic field. imagine flicking that spring. the vibration caused to the spring is light, and the frequency at which it is bouncing around is the light frequency. In this example this is non polarized light.
Polarization, despite seemingly being a simple physical phenomenon of filtering light waves, still requires a solid understanding of electromagnetics and trigonometry to understand.
>>8944026
so unpolarized light moves in a straight line, but oscillates in its magnetism? or is it that light has a density and zigzags in a plane?
Why do you study math? Whats the allure to numbers and formulas?
>any job I want
>300k starting
It's beautiful and useful.
>>8943989
well put
Tell me /sci/ if your evolution is so great why aren't all species hermaphrodites/futanari capable of self impregnation without genetic issue if a mate cannot be found? That seems a much more efficient way to get offsprings.
>>8943950
If evolution is real then let it strike me down where I stand!
>>8943950
Evolution will judge you harshly in the afterlife, heretic
Evolution has a dad unlike you.
All the sob story faggots who think their lives have to be dangerous and miserable are in for a surprise.
The government is going to require these tools get on methadone and shut up.
The methadone will make sure they feel fine-good enough to function, so they will have to shut up, get a job, and become a productive member of society. If we get heroin assisted treatment in the us, like they have all over europe, even better. The epidemic is over. The solution is right under our noses. Its methadone.
funny, op. methadone is a useful tool for addicts but junkies gonna junk. most methadone overdoses are in conjunction with benzos, and that shit has a crazy long halflife... the wait for a lot of those programs can be insane, too.
the solution is actually medical grade heroin. most overdoses are from inconsistency. it's been shown time and time again addicts don't often overdose if they actually know how much of the drug they need to get well.
>we can end the opiate epidemic by forcing opiate addicts to take another opiate
That really made me think, OP
>>8943340
this
and
>crazy long halflife
make for a literal worst case scenario ever
Heroin withdraw is really bad, but the intense part is only a week or so, even with a heavy habit. Methadone withdraw can last MONTHS.
Not PAWS, the literal opiate withdraw itself, can and often does last M O N T H S with methadone.
Not to mention to get the methadone, you have to go to the clinic where you're surrounded by people who are getting methadone just to have something hold them over when they are dry, so they dont get too sick to function.
People rarely quit opiates with substitute opiates, and end up just taking them till they relapse or can afford better opiates.
IMO the best way to quit opiates is by taper, theres medical literature on this even. IIRC you take 20% of your previous dose and this holds off many of the worst symptoms.
>yfw scientists are to brainlet too solve balding
they have solved balding. there are pills that do this, but it isn't without side effects. doesn't mean you will suffer them necessarily, but there will be more options in time.
though who gives a shit? if you start balding just shave it all off as opposed to clinging to what once was

people who want to look good, autismo
Hi /sci/,
Where do you guys pirate your textbooks from? It appears that bookzz and libgen are down.
b-ok.org
Private trackers, sometimes university pages host the pdfs themselves, gen lib rus.
Found this in my apartment building's laundry room. Is it a good book to learn C with or is it outdated?
Currently I just know Java and Python.

give it back to it's owner you fucking thief
what's wrong with the people on this board? no sense of morality. go find yourself a bible before learning how to become more a computer autist

There's some bookshelves where people just put books they don't want anymore. I've seen some of the other books on those shelves for years, so I figure this one being lumped there was also no longer wanted and took it.
>>8942050
It's an okay book. I think it's over rated tho.
Hi /sci/ I need your opinion
I want to study engineering and I resently met a group of them, and now I feel a bit doubtful because they basically say that they are the best and everybody else who dont study engineering is a retard.
I felt a very disturbing lack of humility from their part, and now I feel like I dont want to be part of that group of people :(
Chosse any other carrer that is not engineering and you are basically a retard in their eyes.
I dont know what to do, do I will became a douchebag like them in the future? I dont want to be like that, I just want to study and be aroud cool and interesting people and not with persons like them.
Are the mayority of engineers like that or it was just a bad experience?
>>8941832
major in math so you can have that same attitude but you'll actually be justified
>>8941832
>Are the mayority of engineers like that
yes
Just like all of you I want to be a someone who changes our understanding of the world. I want my name to be mentioned alongside Newton, Einstein, Hawking, etc., but I know that they all had something that I don't have. Going into uni next year to study theoretical physics, but I know I'll never make any real difference. Always "gifted" and way smarter than normie fags, but now beginning to realize that I'm shit compared to the greats. Anyone else feel this way?
The fact that there are smarter people than you in the world is not a tragedy.
>>8941598
Don't feel bad. The greats are like 1 in 300 million. It's like winning the lottery except what you get it a lifetime of dedication and hard-work to see the fruits of your effort finally flower; in exchange you get like a small paragraph in the average history books; or a few books and documentaries about you when you're dead. On the plus side you get to die knowing you helped make humanity and the human race better in some way.
Most of us just get to enjoy life, make our contributions, and die in nameless obscurity however.
Stop being so full of yourself, contribute to your field for humans, and then be happy.
Multiverse theorists piss me off to no end. If there were infinite universes, there would be infinite chances of someone discovering multiverse traveling, thus we'd have infinite ayy lmaos and other humans visiting our universe to say hello.
It's nothing but a loser LARP theory where failures can dream themselves away and say "But in some other universe, I am kang!"
Saying there are infinite lines of infinity and we just happen to be in the universe/galaxy/earth no one has visited doesn't prove anything either, just as much as it disproves the fact.
Do try to prove me otherwise, that's what this thread is for.
>>8940689
prove you what?
the possibility of the existence of multiverse does in no way pertain to the possibility of travel between them
>>8940689
Consider that we may be in one universe where other travelers can't cross into ours?
>>8940702
>>8940704
"There is a God and he's just in our universe, there are no other gods and universes" is just as valid as your points. Nothing proves/disproves this, just like a story a kid can come up with but really believes that is either true/somewhat/not at all true. Therefore it's just LARP fantasy
So if coldfusion is never going to happen, what is the energy source of the future?
Hotfusion
>>8939992
/thread
>>8939987
Fission in the short to intermediate term, perhaps fusion in the long term, for base load power. Increasing use of solar for personal use.
