Reminder that the future is in augmented intelligence, not artificial intelligence.
Improving what we already have is far more practical than rebuilding from the ground up.
Robots can eat shit.

And how do you propose that is going to work? Now instead of just developing AI systems you have two problems: developing AI systems AND interfacing them with really complicated biology.
Pic related is you.
>>8979588
>developing AI systems
See, you don't.
Your new job is simply to understand and alter function.
>>8979567
you are wrong. the only way we will ever truly understand ourself and how we work is when we can rebuild it
As someone with an IQ of 100 and a diagnosis of ADHD, will I ever be able to make anything of myself academically?
Only if you work hard.
>>8978666
Nope
Nice digits tho
IQ is not a static and innate metric.
It's a statistical assessment and your score depends a lot on your emotional and physical state during the test.
Do you think silicone rings in school colours would be a good alternative to traditional class rings? It would be a much cheaper option and also wouldn't get damaged by an Iron Ring.
>>8978389
>silicone vs a fucking metal ring
what are you fucking gay
>>8978389
Just don't buy a school ring.
Just play sports and win a championship ring. Then cost doesn't matter.
Is there an evolutionary benefit to masturbation in humans?

Probably cleans out the sperm pipes
Also makes sure you don't just fuck everything in sight so you only choose the best mates

It's an useful tool to momentarily stave off suicidal ideation.
For a word lock with 8 faces and 5 letters on each face, is it mathematically possible for all alignments to spell eight words in the English language? Aside from the trivial "HORSE-in-all-fields."
>>8977714
>and 5 letters on each face
>Aside from the trivial "HORSE-in-all-fields."
so the catch is that no peice can have the same letter on it twice?
>>8977717
Yeah, that would make the lock pointlessly hard to open for no reason.
>>8977714
Seems very unlikely. There would be 8^5 = 32768 distinct words that you could make with the lock.
The total number of 5 letter words is (according to my half assed google search) only 158390
So if this was possible, then roughly 20% of all 5-letter words would be possible on the lock.

I'm getting tired of morons adding "scientifically" in front of everything and passing it off as fact.

What is the general consensus for the Minute Physics channel?
As god Veritasium said, short videos give you just the impression of learning. Learning must be challenging. I think you niw know where I stand.
>>8976877
It's fine. Interesting little tidbits. Like dude above said, you're not going to learn complex subjects in a minute, but it helps to pique interest and visualize.
It is not a channel intended to make you a PhD holding physicist but it contains many easy to understand facts about physics. If anything, it is a channel meant for non-physics students to get them interested in the subject.
I support it. It is a good example of what pop-sci should be. None of this Black Science Man or Bill Nye the Meme Guy
So basically, I will have an opportunity to as a question to a person working at the LHC. This is your chance, bois.
You have 24h to post in your questions and after - will post answer/s
>>8976486
Ask him if the knows anything about human sacrifices.
>>8976486
I'll go to the LHC myself lul. No need to ask a brainlet a question :^)
Have they learned anything new about speed and acceleration while performing experiments?
When will we have this?
Why we don't have it yet?
We won't without a medium to project on...
Will need some sort of vapor.

They're created on the space after all

Familiarizing yourself with technology and being able to make and check computations quickly is just as important as memorizing definitions and theorems.

"the twin paradox is a thought experiment in special relativity involving identical twins, one of whom makes a journey into space in a high-speed rocket and returns home to find that the twin who remained on Earth has aged more. This result appears puzzling because each twin sees the other twin as moving"
Can anyone here solve the Twin Paradox?
>>8979067
Too tired to recall exactly how it works but it lies in the acceleration of turning the rocket around
>>8979067
what is general relativity for 500 Alex?
the twin on earth isn't subject to acceleration experienced by the leaving twin.
>>8979072
>>8979073
Acceleration is mentioned in the common explanation for this, but it is based on the idea that acceleration can always determine what is inertial frame and what is not an inertial frame. This idea is wrong however i.e. free fall. If everything on either of the moving bodies is being accelerated, acceleration is no different than speed to determine a inertial frame.
Are there any books on proof for brainlets? (Not math major)
What kind of IQ is require to be good at proofs?
>>8978688
131 is the limit. Anyone under that will not be able to understand anything in the book and everyone over that are going to understand it with relative ease.
>>8978688
The 4th step isn't accurate.
sqrt(a*b) only equals sqrt(a)*sqrt(b) for positive and real numbers.

Just graduated from high school.
Pretty good grades but figured I would have just helped out with the family farm. Dd's dying and wants me to go off to college
That said, I like math and botany but I feel like It's too late for me. I like English, history, and economics, but I doubt those will get a job.
Any advice? Will I be shoved into a corner since I'm not really well versed in math (only know calc I)
Thanks guys
>>8978152
Most people don't start studying actual mathematics till they get to college anyways so it's not really off the table, many enter without even taking calc 1.
>>8978162
Guess it's also worth mentioning that I'll be looking at going to my state school. You need to go to good unis to really learn in depth right?
>>8978152
If you have a farm, then stay there, live a comfy life and study on your own using the internet. You can always go to a university once you've found what you like exactly and have saved some money.
I found this article on NY Post claiming the brain has been discovered working in 11 dimensions.
http://nypost.com/2017/06/13/the-human-brain-sees-the-world-as-an-11-dimensional-multiverse/
Has anyone here heard more about this? Is this real? What does this mean?
>>8978001
>What does this mean?
The mainstream media is a tagline-centric cesspool designed to most effectively cater to advertising metrics.
I've seen one of the articles about it, the test done was utilizing geometrical shapes that cluster together to simulate how the brain processes complex information.
Whether it the brain ACTUALLY works in 11 dimensions is highly debatable. It's most likely people mistaken the methods of interpretation as the methods in action.
The general public does not know what "dimension" means. So I do not trust that article to tell me what the research investigated.
