anyone know how to open FITS files in astropy and plot light curves?
3 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
http://docs.astropy.org/en/stable/io/fits/

A good starting point is

hdulist = fits.open('thingy.fits')
hdulist[0].header
hdulist[1].header

Then just get the data into arrays and plot away, young padawan.

i'm having a hard time making a loop that goees through all my FITS files and appends them altogether so i can get a light curve over the entire timespan instead of for each of the files.

any advice?

Wrong. You are never truly happy for long periods of time. Even as a kid you weren't happy all the time, you were upset about a myriad of things. Completely asinine and inconsequential things, you say now looking back, but back then your world would collapse if you were made to sleep that extra hour earlier. And as an adult, you should similarly find moments that make you smile. If you don't, you're living an unhealthy life and you need to reconsider your life and choices.
Happiness isn't a state, that's contentment. Happiness is little gold nuggets.

The highest Euphoria I can re-call throughout my entire existence was rushing into the arms of my father as a small child.

Life was felt in extremes because life was new.

I still feel joy and happiness, but it's not comparable to that feeling, and it likely won't be until I'm on my way out of the door.

What's a construction material that can be used on Earth conveniently, but would not work on different planets (due to physics/astronomy/science-stuff)?

Pls help

Wood? It doesn't grow just anywhere.

If you're looking for physical exclusions, then there are probably none. Laws are assumed to be universal, thus chemistry as well.
>>
>>8970502
It would also no fair well on Venus or Mercury.
>>
>>8970479

Concrete. It works on Earth due to the prevalence of oxygen in the atmosphere. On a planet without O2 it wouldn't work

hey /sci/ I'm learning differential equations, and I came across this problem...
The problem claims we can replace 2c with c^2
why is that? I know both are arbitrary constants, but c^2 is in no way the same as 2c ?
3 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>8970409
c1 = (1/2)(x^2 + y^2)
so c1 is positive
so 2c1 = c^2 for some c
>>
>>8970411
oh hey that makes sense!
just for the sake of an answer, we could also claim that 2c1 = c^4 right? since c^4 is always positive as well

I'm going to be taking a computer based aptitude test soon.

I am unrehearsed with my maths abilities. I haven't practised maths since my GCSEs.

For my aptitude test I will be answering lots of Speed, distance, time equations and bearing equations.

How can I practise these equations? Is there any good apps?
Where can I find questions online? Any good resources?

Any help is appreciated!

>>8970289
khan academy probably. Speed distance and time is just governed by one equation which you should have no problem with. Unless you mean kinematics which is a bit trickier but still done in secondary school ("suvat equations"), that should be in an A-level M1 (mechanics 1) textbook
>>
What kind of retard test give the formula of speed ? This is retarded.

>>8970307
Sure, but I'd like to get as much practise as possible
Thanks for the recommendation

and pharma-anons here? what meds are best for social anxiety? looking for balance between least side effects and greatest negative-thought supression, heard good things about lorazepam, gabapentin/pregabalin and tofisopam

that only works to an extent if you're not a 100% failure in life, I ust need a boost for couple months to get out the door into first job and rapid socialisation to try make a friend

Stop thinking about it so much and just get hold of some amphetamine. It works wonders for my social anxiety. It makes me feel like a real, productive person. Only problems are you won't be eating and your dick might not work.

It's over the counter, so you don't need a prescription for it. I take about 2.4g a couple hours before a social event, and it makes me able to talk to just about anyone

Hello /sci/,

I have written a new post at Psychic Apparatuses (https://psychicapparatuses.wordpress.com/2017/06/11/action-complex-of-homotopy-groups/) detailing the construction of a complex of commuting actions of lower homotopy groups on higher homotopy groups. I haven't found anything in the literature discussing these higher actions, but it's all quite natural since all of the actions satisfy nice universal properties with respect to one another (the group structure on connected components of iterated loop spaces is just a special subsystem of this complex).

Any thoughts on what can be done with this? How do commuting actions restrict the structure of the groups involved?

Hey guys, I'll make it quick, De Broglie merged the photoelectric effect and the relativity to get his famous wavelength.
Then he applied it to particles with mass and it was demonstrated right experimentally.

The problem is that he assumes zero rest mass when doing the math, and that's just not the case of i.e. an electron.
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>8970045
Obviously not. Or else the equation wouldn't work. But even massless particles have momentum, which is exactly what is shown in the expression
>>
>>8970045
The Broccoli Hypothesis
>>
>>8970183
That's the thing, when finding the equation a zero rest mass is assumed, but then is used for non-zero rest mass particles.
