Is there any scientifically-proven methods to increase IQ and become smarter?

Solving math problems that requires ingenuity is a good way to increase general mathematical ability, but there are no proven way to increase general intellgience.
You can exercise and eat healthy to maintain fluid intelligence, but thats about it.

buy a water filter, fluoride can drop you down 15 iq points

How large of a terrestrial telescope do you need to use to see trash left behind on the moon? Like rovers and shit.

There doesn't seem to be any such photos online. That leads me to believe 2 things.

1, you need an absurdly large telescope for that, beyond amateur level.
2, none of the professional telescopes have ever tried looking for these things, probably because no one cares or didn't request time on the telescope to do it

Here's the best I can do, which is shit. Just a cheap ass, second hand, telescope with a PaS camera that I can't get to focus well enough. The best ones online are just blobs of dark and light with some faint tracks.

Either out of focus or too much light going in. Put cardboard as improvised iris. As for size, it has to be huge ass and beyond the atmosphere.

>when you realize drinking a gallon of ice water burns as many calories as you would gain by drinking a can of Coke
It's simple thermodynamics

it takes one calorie to raise 1 gram of water by 1 degree
1000 calories = 1 Calorie

a gallon of water weighs 3.78 kg
if you drink 3.78 kg of water at [math]0^\circ[/math]C it will take 3.78 Calories to raise it to [math]1^\circ[/math]C

The human body is [math]37^\circ[/math]C
So it takes 3.78 * 37 Calories to raise it to body temperature
That's 139.86 Calories you could burn just sitting on your ass
A can of coke is 140 Calories
A gallon of ice-water is the negative of drinking a coke

It might even be slightly more if you factor in the energy required to lift the water up to your face.

How much of a meme is Mensa?

100% meme.

Top meme

I'm also in Mensa, thought it would be some super 1337 club with secret buildings in every city but they got nothing other than a website, overpriced store and magazine that often doesn't get delivered
>>
Isn't Mensa discriminatory?
Racist and sexist, even?

Electrical charges distribution and steric effects.
Also note that it's only one of a whole bunch of identical molecules that binds the target in the end.

For example see vid related.
Usually there are only 2 copies of a gene but you will find thousands of regulator proteins for it inside the cell.
When a gene need to be switched on you have:
- extracellular or intracellular signal triggers the production of second messengers
- each second messenger triggers the production of a third messenger
- repeat for variable n times (depending on the specific signal way)
- In the end you have whole bunch of regulators proteins
This process is called signal amplification.

Chances are that eventually one will collide with the right spot of dna trough brownian motion and trigger the binding and then the reaction

I'm sorry, but I couldn't live like this. I need some freedom on my own, and planning every tidbit of my life just takes the pleasure out of it.

To each their own though, I don't have to study too much luckily, so maybe planning like this would help then.

If there is such thing as speed of light, why isn't there speed of dark?

I suggest you take a look vsauce's video "What is the speed of Dark?" - on YouTube
>>
>>8980610
That guy's a fucking joke. He takes meme facts and somehow ties them all together to suggest a point to his audience.
>>
>>8980608
there is and it's actually "faster" than the speed of light
you could theoretically cast a shadow over a distant place covering light years in seconds

however, "dark" is just absence of light, not a form of energy, so it's not really "something" moving fast, rather than cessation of the presence of something

If energy can't be created from nothing, where does the energy come from to create black holes?
28 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>8979783
Black holes are a result of hyperstrong gravity, not energy. It doesn't take any energy to form a black hole, just a sufficient amount of mass.
>>
>>8979844
Then why do stars die?
>>
>>8979847
They run out of fuel, expend all their energy into space, and cool of into heavy clumps of nothing.

A black hole is already dead, so to speak. It's the endgame of a HUGE star. But like most dead things, it doesn't require any energy to keep being dead.

Theoretically it would need to be fed to outpace Hawking Radiation but such radiation hasn't been experimentally/observationally proven to exist yet.

Hello, I've just finished high school and will take a year off. In this time, I'm going to work to save up some money and want to learn math as a hobby on the side.

I understand high school math well, but I'm not really excellent..I've learned from the beginnings of set theory up to integrals and undestand basic problems, however at some more tricky puzzles I can get lost and have no idea what step to take next. I have no idea where to go next, no guidance at all. How good does my high school math has to be to continue with advanced mathematics? Where should I go next?

I've watched this video ''The Map of Mathematics'' (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmJ-4B-mS-Y) in particular, but have no idea what to start with.

Can anyone recommend some good books to start learning or youtube videos? Or even which topic to begin with? I'd highly appreciate all help.

So, should I study from the top of the list to the end? I've also read few things and it looks super fucking hard to understand, because:

1.) English isn't my main language
2.) I can't even put mathematical logic into my own language, even though I understand what I have to do

I think trying to push my head through these hard walls will be waste of time really.. It could be done of course, but I need something more simple and easy to at least know what the hell I'm reading..

No offense, thanks for help and will look even further into this, but from the first glance it's seems a little bit too much. Not that I'm not willing to work for it, but yeah, if anyone know something more easy ongoing and entertaining, I'd be pleased to know so.
>>
>>8979356
definitely learn math in english if you can, most scientists and mathematicians use english.

I guess French or German would be fine too.

The reason is, for any learning, you internalize concepts in the framework of whatever language you learn them in; therefore, you would be better able to communicate with maths in the language you learned math in.

So, I could be a native english speaker, go to spain to study math, then come to the united states. I would probably speak english and do math in spanish for the rest of my life.
