Is NASA dead?
Is there any point to what they do? Do people still dream of working for NASA? To me, it feels like their heyday is over and they are kicking a can now.
I just get sad when I think of them now. But am I wrong? Are they still doing cool shit?
Why not go to their website and find out?
>>8986314
I want the general consensus on what the people think of them, not what they think of themselves.
Researching cool rockets and spacecrafts seems rad tho
So what are the non-meme explanations for this?
>>8985814
>No intelligent life out there
>Intelligent life exists, but it's rare and so is spaced too infrequently to ever notice each other
These are the only non-meme explanations.
>>8985817
Which is scarier?
>>8985814
>make up formula
>assume the order of magnitude of 5 of the variables
>be surprised it doesn't match observation
Gee, I wonder what the ingenious answer is for this paradox.
It couldn't simply be that the chance of life forming and surviving for billions of years is on the order of 10^-100 instead of the assumed 10^-30
I'm about as normie as it gets with this.
I watched a super simplified video of the slit experiment, so basically my question is this.
Do we even know a single real fucking thing about the laws of physics at this point? Does this experiment pretty much prove that we know absolutely nothing when it comes to this shit?
What exactly do we know? What exactly do we not know?
Just asking for curiosity, thanks.
>>8985495
>Does this experiment pretty much prove that we know absolutely nothing when it comes to this shit?
Yep you figured it out
The thousands of physics profs on the planet just lock their doors and whack it all day
Keep this hush-hush or they might lose their funding
>>8985507
Gave me a chuckle.
But I hope what you said isn't true.
W-We know something right? What do we know? Pls respond.
Hello /sci/, what are your thoughts on water filtration systems?
1) They are necessary.
2) They are unnecessary.
3) I drink only mayonnaise.
4) I drink only filtered mayonnaise.
thanks!
necessary if you live somewhere with fluoridated water
>>8988739
is my mayonnaise flouridated??
>>8988741
i assume water is an ingredient, so probably
How feasible are rejuvenation therapies (AKA reversing aging) and if they even can be achieved, how far away are they? "True believers" on r/Longevity say that they are only 20-25 years away but that doesn't sound realistic so I wanted to ask you guys.
should probably focus on anti-aging before reversing aging
>>8988393
The real answer is nobody knows. To date there isn't really any real evidence to suggest any ongoing research will achieve anything close to anti aging or reverse aging so all predictions are based on future discoveries and assessment on how fast and how effective they can be.
Which means it's all bullshit.
>>8988406
That doesn't make any sense.
Apparently Pinochio's nose will grow if Pinocchio tells a lie.
it is time sensitive, however, if Pinocchio says it is day time, and it is currently day time, then his nose won't grow, even though it will later be night time.
Therefor if Pinocchio says his nose will grow, he is saying a lie, because he can't know that his nose will grow. It doesn't retroactively become true because of something that happens later (his nose grows).
Paradox solved.
>>8988229
Eh, that's actually clever. At least it is the first time I hear this so hopefully you didn't steal this from /reddit/ or something.
That said, great insight but... why the fuck were you thinking about this silly and stupid meme paradox?
nice analysis, im stealing this
>>8988249
original as far as I know.
I tried to solve tons of paradoxes, and my other answers are less satisfying, so I posted this one.
>Hot outside
>Get thirsty
>Drink a lot
>Pee a lot
Then what's the point?
>>8987745
>what's the point?
conduction of core body heat away from the body by elimination rather than perspiration.
>>8987754
>conduction
>liquids
>>8987757
heat is conducted?
Is there any factual scientific evidence regarding herbal Eastern medicine techniques. Is it just a meme?
I'm not looking for "hUrr dUrr i went 2 my locael chinese shaman and me legg feals mucH better!!!!!"

hUrr dUrr i went 2 my locael chinese shaman and me legg feals mucH better!!!!!
>>8987293
Some of the specific treatments have some useful effects.
As a whole though, no.
Any herb or eastern medicine product that actually works is being mass produced or is having its active compounds synthesized in labs because chemicals that actually have medicinal effects can be sold.
Notice how the board is named science AND math. When will you brainlets understand math is not science?
ikr? I do more "science" than these brainlets do in their lifetime just by shaking my magic 8-ball once.

Science is a systematic method we use to make accurate predictions about the universe. Mathematics is just a mere mental representation and is not empirical.
Hey /sci/,
I'm trying to analyse the number of tau accumulations in drosophila neurons. I have some stacks and i'm splitting them into three maximum projections for analysis on one of ImageJ or photoshop but we don't really have a way to count it that isn't just by hand.
I've done a bit of reading online and some people suggested using cell counter on imageJ but my PI would rather I found an alternative.
I'll probably just count manually and using imageJ and compare the numbers but does anyone know of any other ways to count things like this (I tried just using a threshold but I can't stop it from including the neurons and somas)
>>8986974
Sorry, I should clarify that I imaged the medulla not just individual neurons
>>8986974
I dont get why they dont want you to use imageJ? it's fantastic.
I would do it manually, then using imageJ, correlate the results and prove to your teacher there is nothing wrong with it. assuming you take very clear images, it works extremely well for it's purpose.
Alternatively you could design your own program to do such, but that's way above what i know. But ive seen similar methods employed to count ecDNA, with very very accurate results (especially when using very conservative identification parameters)
>>8986979
are you able to post a sample image? may help
Is it still possible to be an "amateur scientist" like there use to be in ye olden days ? I'm trying to say: being a scientist outside of equipped institutions and by your own means like Davy or Faraday were. Is it even possible to replicate, at least in a crude way, the equipments of uni labs with improvised materials or at least materials that are available to the common citizen ?
depends what you mean by "scientist"
>>8986444
Well, actual contributor to the scientifical community and the knowledge of a field
>>8986413
Sure, you could set yourself up a pretty nice lab or telescope or what have you. Problem is that science is so incremental now, people spend entire careers just to advance a small niche thing. I consider myself an amateur astronomer, however I will very likely never discover anything, I just enjoy the hobby.
4chan can be thought of as 2 groups.
>A. those who post more than they read (proactive)
>B. Those who read more than they post (reactive)
Who deserves more credit for creation of 4chan's proverbial essence?
if PAID shills are removed from group A, leaving only those who post because "teh lulz" is playing god by directly influencing board culture, what percentage of group A remains?
>>8986063
1 or 0?
As much as it pains the universe to admit it it is always the pro-active force that instigates.
Sub-frequencies exist only to amplify.
>>8986063
neglecting 1 set of people.
>C. Those that read and post an equal amount of times
>>8986079
I postulate that the odds are in favor of no such person existing as one who would belong to group C
>last time i took the ACT my math score was mediocre and my IQ is probably not very impressive
>still going to do mechanical engineering
Who /madman/ here?
You don't need to have a high IQ to do ambitious stuff.
You just gotta put in more effort.

You'll fit right in.
