I'm having abit of trouble understanding the how depth and pressure impact electricity used at great depths and would appreciate some help regarding this.
For example say that there are cables used for electricity located at depths of 0m, 10 m, 50 m and 1000m, how much will things change and what equation can be used to calculate this?

Also would it take more elecricity to operate a pump at a greater depth than it would just under the surface ?

you dont understand electricity at all, huh?
>>
I don't think the pressure affects the electrical conduction at all, or at least very little.
>>
>>9004929
Not much if at all. It would probably take more energy to operate a pump at a greater depth cause the cable would need to be longer

Is a technological singularity possible? I keep reading that it's not likely to happen. That progress has stagnated and we're reduced to better computers and consumer toys and appliances.

I would love to see advances in space travel and exploration, nanotechnology, biotechnology, and artificial intelligence. Even if it's not in our lifetime, I hope human civilization advances beyond the 20th century level.
17 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>9007609
It isn't stagnating, the market is. We're in a period where the advancement of our technology is too similar to what is already there to be feasible for consumer production. So we keep advancing for workplace/research purposes but won't make another major consumer shift until we hit a breakthrough.

If you want to be /pol/ you can argue that welfare politics means our productive population is being replaced with less intelligent and innovative people by the far left I guess.
>>
>>9007625
I see what you're saying. Market forces are holding us back.

>If you want to be /pol/

Ugh. No thank you!
>>
>>9007609
>Is a technological singularity possible?
No. Technology is reaching its limit. Once transistors get as small and efficient as they can get it's over. In the future you can expect higher resolutions and faster cpus and gpus, but nothing else.

>>9007625
Keep coping. Even if we weren't limited by the market all our new technology since 2007 has been dull or basically useless. In fact anything new that had actual use inherently WOULD be feasible for consumers.

Is it purely philosophical?

Is Roger Penrose correct that "consciousness" is a separate field of incalculable physics that acts as an intermediary between the quantum and relativistic worlds? Implying the existence of a universal consciousness field?

The measurement problem refutes materialism.

In the standard Copengagen interpretation of quantum mechanics there exists a ‘Heisenberg cut’ – a boundary between the observer and the observed. Von Neumann argued that all material objects must be placed on the ‘observed’ side of the Heisenberg cut, and that only consciousness can be placed on the ‘observer’ side.

This is because if we start with a superposition (S), the interaction of S with a measurement apparatus (M) would result in a superposition. But we could think of another apparatus (M0 ) that measures M and S, and we’d still have a superposition, and keeping doing this indefinitely, ever adding more measurement apparatuses to the chain – including our eyes, our optical nerves and our brain. We would be left with a brain/measurement apparatus/system that is still in a superposition. But since we never actually observe a superposition, this chain needs to stop somewhere. According to von Neumann there is only one step when we know for sure that we do not have a superposition: when we gain conscious knowledge of the measurement apparatus; i.e. when matter interacts with the mind.

There are four assumptions here:

>State completeness
Assumption 1 can be thought of as the assumption that there are no hidden variables unaccounted for in the standard quantum state – in other words: Bohmian mechanics. However, Bohmian mechanics is plagued by problems. One insurmountable one is: Hardy's paradox, any local realist theory predicts the probability of a certain combined outcome to be P=0, while experiments and quantum mechanics say P=1/16. There is no calculation in Bohmian mechanics that reproduces P=1/16. Thus, the theory is incompatible with the experimental facts of modern physics.

>No collapse
This is the assumption that the linear dynamics provides a complete and accurate description of the evolution of the physical state for all systems at all times. But theories of this nature (like GRW) must be rejected on the basis that there is strong empirical support for the linear dynamics insofar it has always made the right empirical predictions whenever we have been able to isolate and control a physical system well enough to test it.

>Empirical consistency
There is no reason to reject this.

>no branching
This assumes the measurement interaction between an observer and a physical system typically yields a single determinate measurement result. In other words, if this is false the Many Worlds hypothesis may be true. But no Everettian has been able to derive Born probabilities. This renders it useless as a scientific theory.

Thus, we are forced to accept that Copenhagen is correct and that the Heisenberg cut is one of the main axioms underlying quantum mechanics. Defining an observer as an immaterial mind is difficult to accept for someone wedded to materialism; but it is the only way to solve the problem of ‘where to put the cut’, while holding to the Copenhagen interpretation.

We are therefore forced to reject materialism and accept either mind-body dualism or Berkeleyan idealism.

I did the math and research.According to Wikipedia, the average length of a penis varies from 5.1 to 5.9 inches. I went for a safe 5.5 inches for an average. The average radius from the core center of the penis to the skin on the outside is .75 inches. From this we can roughly find the volume with pi timed radius squared times height. This comes around as the average penis being around 9.72 cubic inchesNext I found the volume of the average human adult male. I had to first find the weight, which according to Alex Schlessingerman's "The Physics Factbook" is 70kg or 154 pounds. Weight is found by multiplying an object mass by the force of gravity, 9.81 meters per second. After taking gravity out of the equation, the average mass of an adult human male is 7.14 kg. I then found the volume by dividing this number by the average density of a human, according to Wikipedia, 985 kg per meter cubed. The volume of the adult male was then found to be .0072516316 cubic meters. Utilizing the volume of the average penis I found earlier, 9.72 in cubed, I get .0001592828 meters cubed. This means the penis is 2.19% of an adult male's volume.Assuming a lack of testosterone or female hormones makes the person a female, balls ignored for ease, fucking a trap is only 2.19% homosexual.

I've heard people say it doesn't and will never end (or at least not until intelligent life goes extinct).

I'm curious if science is progressing by chance or we are working toward something. Our current understanding seems to make this universe a death warrant but who knows what we will consider valid in the future. The fact we didn't pack up and go fap when learning about the law of entropy makes me wonder if humanity is really super special

Humans won't live to see the end of the universe. Whether that be because of an extinction level event, or we just evolve into something different, humans wont be around billions of years from now.

He's trying to figure out what "We have spectrally resolved the intraband transient absorption of photogenerated excitons to quantify the exciton population dynamics in colloidal PbSe quantum dots (QDs). These measurements demonstrate that the spectral distribution, as well as the amplitude, of the transient spectrum depends on the number of excitons excited in a QD. To accurately quantify the average number of excitons per QD, the transient spectrum must be spectrally integrated. With spectral integration, we observe efficient multiple exciton generation in colloidal PbSe QDs.

Do NOT take lsd with anti-depressants, not only is it dangerous, the anti-depressants will neutralize the effects of the lsd. If you are on any kind of anti-depressant, stop taking them for a day or so before you take lsd.
