Will we see soon the cure for AIDS?

or at least a vaccine?

There already is one. You just can't afford it.
>>
Can't happen I'm afraid. America needs to have 100+ military bases worldwide or else the USSR will reform and kill all 7 billion people on the planet. You don't want the Soviets to kill everyone, do you? Good, because in order to make sure that doesn't happen, America NEEDS to spend money to prevent that from happening. AIDS vaccines can wait, and so can you.

What if Godel was just... wrong?

His conclusions have been taken as gospel and have informed the development of math for decades. But what if a few years from now, someone finds a crucial mistake in his work that upends it?

Nope. I'm pretty sure his proof has been read by a lot of people.

Then he'd be wrong. But that won't happen, Russel.

I didn't mean "taken as gospel" to mean "accepted uncritically", I meant "treated as absolute truth".

I'm writing a research essay in mla about the origins of humans, and I wanted to ask how I should refer to human ancestors prior to homo sapiens? Should I just say "our ancestors?" I've written papers before like the evolution of ginger and stuff about cellular biology, but this has me in a pickle trying to figure out what demonology to use for it to be proper.

Also, I use two websites from different institutions throughout the whole thing, is it proper in mla and as a science research paper to make reference to the institutions early on once and then cite it in the bibliography, or should I refer to the sources each time I use information from them? Because there would be a citation in every sentence if I did. . . .

I know there's a thread for writing assistance in /lit/ but I figured you guys probably know more the proper ways to go about a science paper than them.

How early ancestors are we speaking of?

Here are some suggestions:
Ancestral humans
Early/late hominids/hominins/homonins (Hominid for more apelike, homonin for species after diverging from chimpanzees)
Member of human clade
Extinct relative of humans
>>
Just call them sapiens.
It's 2017 so nobody cares if they're homosexual.
>>
>>9039036

my paper goes as far back as the Sahelanthropus tchadensis, also I should ask, I always say "the" before the name of the species in my paper, you see it more in the paragraph I just finished.

What if Einstein was right he said "only 2 things are infinite the universe and human stupidity",was he right in diagnosing humans with autism? if so why cant we evolve past our autism? i have been thinking about this man, our brains haven't changed since the stone age...things are slowing down we are trying to run solid work's 2017 on an 80's computer we gotta upgrade the hardware what better way than enhanced evolution? What do you think sci do humans need to evolve? Are we at a turning point in human history?

i said in a previous post that it is possible that autism is a statistical phenomenon. its difficult to make inferences about how a trait contributes to evolutionary fitness. somewhat analogous to the intractable problems the human brain faces into interpreting visual images.

#illposedproblems
>>
>>9038819
in essence, im saying that evolution doesn't necessarily relate to the problem you seem to be positing. evolution doesn't guarantee fitness, just a gradient ascent on fitness.

I believe that our thoughts are predictable and consequent of our behaviors and immediate events. I would like to develop a scientific understanding and derivation of all possible sources of our thoughts, and what things we can do to willfully modify them. An easy example would be where you want to do something, and then suddenly you find yourself repeatedly thinking about it.

In my personal experience, I have suffered from the following conditions and at one point I was able to begin removing these problems by changing my behavior patterns. I believe they occur for some particular reason or another and that we can use the scientific method to understand the underlying principles that cause them. It seems that whatever it is that causes these thought patterns is some echo of our own recent behavior.
> Thinking in words (rather than conceptually)
> Absence of planning and forethought
> Blocked thoughts (e.g. midway through a thought, the thought is stopped)
> Absence of emotion, feeling, and empathy
> Self-antagonizing and harmful thoughts (including criticism of self and suicidal thoughts)
> Social anxiety (thoughts of worry about what others will do or say, repeatedly thinking about what words to use to express myself to others)
[among other unwanted thought and behavior patterns]
I wonder if anyone else has managed to successfully change their thought patterns and via what means.

Here are some other behavior and thought patterns that I do not want but seem to have for some reason.
> Fidgeting
> Time wasting (absence of productive or wholesome activities)
> Discouragement from attempts to comprehend the origin of my thoughts
> Manipulations to certain behaviors (theft, masturbation)
> Sexually obsessed thought patterns
> Double think (thinking the same thing [including specific word sequences] twice or more in short order)
> Spaced thoughts (e.g. instead of thinking the word "shift," this thought pattern involves thinking each letter with some spacer in between, such as "underscore; such as "s, underscore h, underscore i, ...")

Classic prefrontal symptoms. Try excercise, socialising and meditation. Also try to explicitely deconstruct your problems. i.e you get a problem, what is it, what do you want from it, how do you do it, what are the steps, if it conflicts with other things you want, what are the possible outcomes if you go one way or the other. Think in terms of small steps. I'm the same to be honest.

You have a sphere with an hexagonal grid. How many colours do you need such that each cell has a different colour than all its neighbors? In a flat space it's pretty obviously 3, although I have no idea about proofs or geometry.

Why hasn't this caught on as an understanding of life and death. It is the only theory that has mathematical support, which is far more than any religion can say.

You have yet to basically explain any of this. In what context does life (and death) recur? Is it on the level of our planet? Our universe?

Graham's number is awesome, but I call BS on it's usefulness. It gives the outer bound to a number that is barely useful. What is the largest number that is actually used in any applied way?

A parsec. Idk, your question is retarded.

The successor of the smallest non-useful number, which often comes up when discussing impredicativity (c.f. Berry paradox).

Its 9, any larger than that and its just showboating.

What the fuck are you spouting about. Much of modern philosophy was developed in direct opposition to Aristotle's conclusions. Moreover, Aristotle was not particularly well vested in mathematics, and hardly wrote anything on the subject.

> "A back door is typically a flaw in a software program that perhaps the -- you know, the developer of the software program is not aware of and that somebody who knows about it can exploit," he said. "And, you know, if there are flaws in software programs, obviously, that's why you get updates on your phone and your computer all the time."
>"So we're not talking about that. We're talking about lawful access."
This is genuinely hilarious. What a chimp. He doesn't get it.

But you know, he's been talking to people who do, and the key is here:
>The package will also contain authority for the Australian Federal Police to "remotely monitor computer networks and devices", a power currently possessed by the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, and force handset makers to help authorities break into devices they sell.
This is about forcing Apple, Samsung, etc. to give access to anything useful to break into seized smartphones.

It's not really about "end-to-end encryption", it's about storage encryption, with short, fast-access passcodes.
