> raging against IQ, racism, gender bias, creationism, /pol/,
> not raging against the BILLIONS of tax payer dollars spend on ESO, NASA, LEGO, CERN, SETI, ISS etc, that yield absolutly NO benefit for mankind whatsoever

Seriously /sci/, explain yourself right now. How is modern organised science not far worse for humanity than organised religion? Compare modern tax rates to the tithe. You must be truly brainwashed to deny you joined the biggest cult since the dawn of mankind.

No, science in its pure form is objective, yet we can only think and exist through a subjective limitation

Hai :D

Does anyone have a collection of /sci/ approved mathematics books from brainlet to advanced level. I have just finished my first year so I have basically covered brainlet calculus, brainlet linear algebra, and then you have that course of assorted ultra-brainlet introduction to all things (geometry, number theory, groups, proof stuff etc etc) but of course the advanced books are useful later thnx :)

That an emerging higher level property could affect its constituents.

Basically, whether or not your mind can have an affect on your brain, or if whatever you're experiencing on consciousness (or just the emergent level of the brain) is only a result of the complex web of atoms that interact at the lowest possible level and are never acted upon by what they constitute.

Despite their false veneer of modesty, mathematicians believe that their subject is the most important, most beautiful, most influential and most pure.

But while they're jerking off over hundred digit prime numbers or whatever boring imaginary shit they manage to think up, organic chemists discover the beautiful and complex structure of compounds in real world and of living beings. Mathematicians will never understand the awe and fascination chemists experience when seeing the complexity and raw beauty of the real world.

Don't you feel bored and sick when you look at your mathematical papers and feel wonderment and awe when you see organic structures and mechanisms? Havent' you wondered how much better your life would be if you studied organic chemistry? How can mathematicians even covfefe?

Hey /sci/ I was just wondering about the following.
It may be clear that:
[math]d(x,y) \geq |d(x,z) - d(y,z)|, \quad \forall z \in X[/math]
Now my question is; for distinct x and y, does there always exist a [math]z [/math] such that [math]d(x,z) \neq d(y,z)[/math] ?
11 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>9038485
Oh [math]d [/math] is a metric function ofcourse.
>>
yes, just let z be x or y (say x), then d(z,x)=0 and d(y,z)!=0

less trivially, in general the answer is no if you consider the discrete metric d(x,y)=1 when x!=y.
>>
>>9038497
ah yea, i was thinking about the less trivial cases where z != x or y.
but had not considered the discrete metric yet. thanks for pointing that out

Maryam Mirzakhani, the first woman to receive the prestigious Fields Medal for mathematics, has died in the US.

The 40-year-old had breast cancer, which had spread to her bones.

Nicknamed the "Nobel Prize for Mathematics", the Fields Medal is only awarded every four years to between two and four mathematicians under 40.

It was given to Prof Mirzakhani, an Iranian, in 2014, for her work on complex geometry and dynamical systems.

Sometimes, it's helpful to decompose a complex field into the most useful categories and perspectives so you can attack difficult problems more easily. It's an interesting exercise to see how well you understand the foundations of such and such field, as well as figure out whether there are parts that you do not understand well. This is how I would frame the different levels and angles of chemistry, if I had to balance between simple and yet comprehensive:

>Chemical/Physical Properties
Subatomic/Electronic
Atomic
Bonding
Molecular
Material
>Thermodynamic Constraints & Equilibrium
Kinetic
Energetic
Entropic
>Chemical Interactions
Types of Reactions
Reaction Mechanisms
Systems of Reactions

How would you do it?

>>
i'd break it into lab and lecture and skip the one that doesn't take attendance
>>
>>9033437
By systems of reactions do you also mean in living systems? Beacose that's what i'd add.
>>
>>9033517
I think so. It's definitely something I want to cover. I almost want to break up reaction mechanisms to include both the molecular components (is it nucleophilic? electrophilic? etc.) involved and the step-by-step processes (what are some competing lists of reactions that get to the product? what happens if you add a catalyst? etc.).

But otherwise I'm quite satisfied with what I have here. Think about to the idea about nucleophilic substitution. Is it one of the various "reaction mechanisms" that can happen? Yes. How can you tell? Look at its chemical/physical properties. Will it happen? Study the relevant thermodynamics.

I suggest you give up this wild dream. I have experience with STEM girls I can tell you that they fall into three categories and no category is really date-able. Perhaps two of the three are fuckable, but they say to never stick your dick in crazy and you should follow that advice.

Type 1:
The fat and ugly girl. The only reason she is "smart" is because she had no friends or partners in her life so all she could do was study for school. Her IQ is actually pretty low but through repetition she has gotten to the level where she can get a bachelors degree in STEM.

You don't want to fuck these simply because they are fat and ugly and as every lonely, fat and ugly person is, she has a huge superiority complex that will piss you off when you realize she is just a highly trained brainlet.

Type 2:
The girl who used to be really fat but in college got thin through starvation. They are just like Type 1 in the sense that they never had friends because they were fat and nobody liked them and they have low IQs, but through self-hatred she managed to get thin and now she is technically fuckable.

The problem is that this is the first time in her life that men pay attention to her, so she is going mad with that power. She is a complete slut. She takes in every cock that walks in front of her. You could fuck her, but you shouldn't date her unless you want to get cheated on. And if you are going to fuck her, do not treat her nicely because then she is will get attached to you, you will go out for like 2 months and then she will cheat on you with your best friend.

cont. for type 3
>>
>>9042006
Cont:

Type 3: The cute STEM girl

This one actually had friends and people who wanted to fuck her in her childhood, so she being smart is not a result of loneliness. Her IQ is actually high (for a woman, read about distributions).

The problem is in the God complex these bitches have. She is not only smart, but she is also sexy. This means that she has lived an easy life in which she could just go out every weekend and fuck 5 dudes and get drunk as fuck, but then come monday and take a test like nothing had happened. They think they are superior to everyone because they always heard their Stacey friends talking about how hard it was to pass a math test, specially after a party. Plus she also feels superior because compared to the other smart kids at her school, she also had huge social power from her having a vagina.

She is used to abuse this power, and specially abuse people around her. These people are fucking maniacs I tell you. I did not mean god complex in an ironic sense. Do you know how /pol/ talks about the superior Aryan race? Well, that is how these women perceive themselves. They are above you and everyone in their minds.

If you catch her drunk at a party you may be able to fuck her, but odds are she will try to sue you for raping her because that is how she is. These type of women usually have huge contempt for men. This is because the only people who can top her intellectually are men, and this makes her angry because that contradicts her belief that she is a superior being.
