If parallel universes are proven to exist, how would it affect human society knowing that we are just one of infinite copies of ourselves?

What about the world lines were OP didn't become OP (i.e. didn't start a thread)?

So there was recent non-scare about Yellowstone blowing up, and it got me thinking; is there literally nothing proactive to be done about supervolcanoes like this?

In finding this image I found an article about a theoretical plan to drill a hole into a caldera, pour water down it to cool it off and using the steam for geothermal energy production, but they admitted that the technology isn't quite there yet; particularly for actually drilling the hole, which would need to be like five miles deep apparently.

Still, a plan like this seems somewhat promising; if the point is that pressure builds up in these areas until it explodes outwards, couldn't you avoid the problem by released the pressure in some other, safer way? Sort of like lancing an abscess to drain the pus, could we not lance supervolcanoes to release the magma in smaller, more controlled ways, allowing us to avoid the huge catastrophic explosions?

I really don't know anything about geology so I don't even know where to start on this.

Volcanoes erupt because of pressure, not heat.
If you cool down the surface, you are just creating a more impressive boom.
>>
>>9167082

Okay, but then doesn't it follow that you could find other ways to release the pressure that don't involve a giant explosion?

how long does it take me to learn something from a math/science/computer-science field that will make me marketable

idk
>>
>>9166878
Learning the concepts can be done relatively quickly.

Foundations can take longer as repetition would need to be done over a period of time. Especially for math, it needs to be done consistently before muscle memory allows you to do the problems without having to reference notes or think about it too hard.

As for time frames that would depend on your IQ.

Dolphins have about as many brain neurons as humans, some species having up to 1.5 times more neurons than us, so why haven't they developed some kind of society or civilization that resembles that of humans, even if very primitive? Can we at least consider them conscious like us humans, even if they don't understand language? Shouldn't we regard them as superiors, I mean, still lesser than humans but significantly superior to gorillas? And, considering their intelligence, do you think dolphins pose an existential threat to humans? I mean, maybe they're just playing cute and secretly developing an army of mecha suits to exterminate humankind in their secret underwater caves. Do you think that's possible?

Being able to control your emotions is the most important aspect of intelligence. If random thoughts activate emotional responses that keep you away from achieving your goals you are a brainlet, no matter what kind of cognitive skills you have.

Prove me wrong.

You can though. Through training and discipline. The way monks do.

Why is it that math has a lot less retards and amateur theorists then science (particularly geo and cosmology)?
For every person claiming Creationism, Flat Earth, Planet X, etc is true there is at least a 1000th of that claiming Sacred Geometry or Time Cube's axioms to be accurate.
But why is this?
9 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
There is no room for nonsense.
>>
>>9167177
Because we don't have to believe anything (except axioms) to work. We don't have to wonder why or how. We proceed by building and deconstructing.

In order to consider /x related topics, we first have to look at the assumptions and go from there. Most of those assumptions don't hold upon examination, so the entire claim can be dismissed.

There are some people who go on about sacred geometry, platonism, etc... but the burden of proof is on them.

There's things I think about, mostly negative mass; but it doesn't take long before I realize whatever I'm thinking won't work. So I don't talk about it.

How absolutely fucked would I be if I transferred schools and switched my major from environmental science to environmental studies? Right now my end goal is to graduate, work for 2-3 years, and then go back and get my master's in geology. Would I be ill-prepared to do that with an environmental studies degree? Would I be able to land the same type of job after college?

I'm a first year and I hate where I'm at right now so I'm going to transfer no matter what. I've been searching for colleges for 2 years and I'm so tired of this shit.

Every college is either:
A. doesn't offer environmental science / geology
B. In the absolute ghetto-est part of the city
C. In the middle of bumfuck nowhere
D. 1000 miles away from my family

What do? The college that offers environmental studies has everything else I want.

Go for environmental studies.
Also, environments are a spook. An illusory product of boundaries arbitrarily drawn when a system is abstracted. Keep it in mind.
>>
>>9167762
well, your choice in degree is shit. both are a waste of time. considering the lack of rigor in your field, you can probably major in either and no one will bat an eyelash.

if you're gonna get a shit degree, then just go where ever makes you feel better and costs not too much

Starting this thread because I'm a new student and I'm afraid I bit off a bit more than I can chew for my first semester and I'd like to see how my workload is compared to other students.
