Hey folks,
I'm really interested Particle Physics and Cosmology and I have been watching videos on Sixty Symbols, Royal Institution, World Science Festival on Youtube.
I was wondering if maybe you could suggest me some more channels or maybe lecturers or authors on these subjects. I'm looking for a liiitle bit more advanced videos. Like I've heard these things explained in laymans language so many times now it doesn't really get me anymore. I want to understand the underlying mathematical principels, so maybe a series or just single videos that delve a little deeper into things would be pretty nice.
I hope you get me nad hae some suggestions.

here you should find anything you need.
If you're completely new to physics, however, start with 8.01 by based Lewin https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiEHVhv0SBMpP75JbzJShqw/playlists
If you actually want to understand instead of getting feelgood metaphors for the physics, ditch the pop sci and either take a class or just work through a textbook.

Thanks I will dig into these
Does witten's cranium contain a Boltzmann brain?
Sparring the white race from genocide? Why, I believe, let me check. Ah yes, I almost laughed. How wonderfully humorous, goyim.
Is witten the very embodiment of a brainchad?

Any amateur astronomers spotted the Mayak yet?
It's a Russian kickstarter project that is basically just a cubesat with a big inflatable reflector mounted on it. It was rumored to be as bright as Venus (highly unlikely) but I can't find any solid sightings of it so far even though it's been up for nearly 2 weeks. It passed over my area the other night and I didn't see anything. One Czech guy supposedly spotted it but he said it wasn't even visible to the naked eye.
My guess is it either failed to deploy it's reflector properly or the estimations of how bright it would be were massively overblown.

In an earlier thread about this, some Anon posted a link to a Russian site where somebody got to talking to the designer(s) of Mayak and tried to explain to them why there calculations of how bright it would be when viewed from the ground were WAY off.
I am sorry I did not save the link, it was fascinating -- the designer(s) seemed really unable to follow what was being explained to them -- but the upshot was that the satellite, as designed, would likely only be visible at all under perfect conditions and then probably would be hard to spot other than rare flashes when a facet "spotlighted" you as the thing tumbled.
Hopefully some other Anon saved the link.

>the satellite, as designed, would likely only be visible at all under perfect conditions and then probably would be hard to spot other than rare flashes when a facet "spotlighted" you as the thing tumbled.
I was thinking that too considering I saw absolutely nothing when I looked for it the other night. Assuming it's in a relatively stable orbit (by which I mean it's not tumbling or spinning) it would be completely invisible to a massive part of the area it's passing over. I would be interested in knowing how bright it can get under optimal conditions, but it doesn't really seem like the designers thought it through all that well. Too bad because it seems like a fun concept to get people interested in space. Maybe I can find that link in the archive.
So, what do *you* guys think of the number three?
>>9072721
YOU PIECE OF SHIT
I THINK THAT YOU SHOULD STOP THINKING IN 3 and lean to the superior 33.
FUCKING PLEBEIAN SHIT I HOPE YOUR MOTHER COUNTS IN THREE BECAUSE YOU ARE SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT. NEVER REPRODUCE. I HOPE THAT IF YOU DO HOWEVER. YOU REPRODUCE IN THREE FOR EVEN POSTULATING CONSIDERATION FOR THE NUMBER. THERE ARE ONLY THREE THINGS IN LIFE THAT PISS ME OFF MORE THAN THE NUMBER 3. THOSE ARE, YOU, ME, AND THE FUCKING NUMBER. I REALLY DESPISE THE NUMBER THREE.

If you're so smar why are you still poor? Checkmate wagecucks, I'm the most intelligent on the entire bourd. Not even +160 autists can't compete because they lack social skills which is part of intelligence. IQ is a meme and this entire board is an autist circlejerk, stay irrelevant. Meanwhile I'm capable of adapting reality to my own interests. How can nerd virgins even compete?
One day you'll realize you've always been fucking uber-brainlets who can't process imputs and only excell at math/logic and that's only because you've trained that for years. Even chad has more chances of reproducing his genes than you. Isn't it pathetic?

Average is hell.
How do you avoid making mistakes that are just a simple lapse in concentration/attention. Usually these mistakes don't happen that often, but because of the curves of the tests, I can get only a few questions wrong (almost 100 percent of the time from small mistakes) and get a C even if i got 90 percent of the questions right?
>>9072440
just lay out your work neatly and clearly. Get a good amount of sleep before the test. Don't overthink every step.

coffee increases attention. so do other stimulants. I would always drink coffee during tests, but i drink tons of coffee anyways so yea

Been taking a couple trusted personality tests and score high across the board for OCEAN tests regarding Openness and receive INTP in the Myers Briggs . I'm skeptical of these tests but they're still intriguing.
Would it be worth taking an IQ/MENSA test ? At the same time I'm curious, but then again, why should I care .
I'm 20 years old if this matters.
>>9072426
You should note this:
Suppose you are writing a resume or CV. Suppose you wish to apply to a job or to a university. Will any tests other than SAT/GRE matter?
No. No IQ test will be worth anything compared to a degree. They will not tell you anything or gain you any prestige. Getting a high score on such a test and bragging about it will only lower your prestige in most academic groups. No one cares about high IQ. Most shitty grad students are over 130 anyway, and those are the bad ones.
You would spend your time better by reading a textbook or taking courses rather than caring about your MBTI score.
>>9072426
IQ/MENSA test has nothing to do with Myers Briggs. Myers Briggs is nothing more than a "fun" test that has poor retest reliability.
Hi /sci/,
So I live in St. Louis, and the solar eclipse will be heading closeby. I want to find the best spot to go to for viewing it.
I've looked on google maps overlayed with the path of the eclipse.
http://xjubier.free.fr/en/site_pages/solar_eclipses/TSE_2017_GoogleMapFull.html
My question is, are the more dramatic effects the closer you get to the dead center, aka blue line on the map?
Or are the effects the same anywhere within the two red lines, and the only difference is the time spent in totality?
Thanks /sci/.
The dark area is the path of totality, so you would see a total eclipse anywhere on that area. During the total eclipse the Moon has a larger apparent diameter then the Sun, that's why the eclipse can be total in a whole area and not just one point. In the red lines the Sun would be completely blocked by the Moon, but just barely and for a shorter time, while in the blue line the duration of the eclipse is maximum and the center of the Moon and the Sun coincide for a moment. I'm not and expert, so this may not be completely accurate.
>>9072306
Anywhere in the red you will see the great things totality brings. The difference between the edges and the blue line will merely be the duration. Being that the maximum totality of this eclipse is only 2:40 id highly suggest making as much effort as possible to get to that blue line.
Is tje current state of society good or bad with all this gender spctrum bullshit ?
Will it fade with time or just get worse ?
it's irrelevant, focus on obtaining capital

The homosexuality will be kept, but the trannism and 1k genders will actually fade out sooner or later, in which almost everyone will forget about it and think as a stupid phase one did once in a lifetime.

Apparently NASA sent out a mixtape in the Voyager spacecraft, containing ambient sounds from earth, greetings in 55 languages, some blues, etc. to meet the aliens.

If you could add 5 songs or sounds that represent earth's culture, what would they be?
>>9072227
I would fill the disc's data space entirely with the word "desu" over and over again, just like old times.
the screaming from "1 jar 1 rectum"
nazi song "die fahne hoch"
atlas shrugged and the fountainhead read by ruby wax
secretly taped reactions of people informed their relatives are dead at a hospital
6 hours of cricket, snooker and chess commentary randomly swapped every 1 to 10 minutes
>>9072227
Aliens will I think of this is incredibly cringe-worthy and retarded and will avoid us as a species altogether.
Then when they get to the planet to see that we fucking lied we're a bunch of trashy gay homophobes they'll pass right by
Ok so I just had a crazy idea. If its so difficult to travel long distances through space while still having human interaction, why don't we just turn the entire planet into a spaceship.
Stay with me.
This would obviously take centuries to be ready for let alone prepare for it. But lets say we have technology that can kick us out of the suns orbit, and propel us through space via a planet?
Now the big question is, how do we sustain life on the planet? I say we prepare a grid off interconnected batteries that absorb the energy of our sun and those that we may come in contact with. Those batteries would act as an energy source to create artificial lighting for plant growth and what not.
That would be impressive enough for humanity to pull off.
>>9072125
How drunk or stoned does one have to get to come up with this shit?
>>9072125
Look up some equations for escape velocity, and momentum/inertia. Then look up the estimated weight of the Earth. This question is far too retarded for me to do any math over but i can tell you right now that shit is never going to fucking happen. This is not "oh but when technology gets better" no, this is something that will literally never happen. Its far easier to develop interstellar space travel than it is to develop interstellar space travel, then scale it up to the size of Earth so you can kill off 99% of the plants that give us our required oxygen.
Fuck it, in 1000 years when my cyborg army and I travel through space on our intergalactic spaceship of a planet, I will remember the doubters and engrave your names directly under the feet of my statues.
