suppose that intention affected the results of experiments through some unknown causal mechanism (e.g. like ESP, not subconscious bias). how would we know? when would people finally learn the truth?
Science teams do experiments to prove theory. Other science teams do experiments to disprove theory. We then analyze the data from these experiments to assess whether the starting hypothesis influences test results.

Violation of conservation of energy has never been observed directly. The double slit experiment and all of its spunoffs result from this. It's also why there's no problems if there's no slits.

Any post university learners here?
I think I am just realising the huge information overload and how ignorance is the best strategy. I feel guilty for not going through entire textbooks but it's not viable.
I am about halfway through SICP. Of the 5 chapters, the first 3 is standard stuff that is covered in all intro style works. The last 2 chapters are weird stuff that might be worth doing. The book is overjoyed but it's a lot better than doing nothing. I'm not sure why programming books need to be hyped up when the activity itself requires rigour or else your programs don't work.
I also want to have a better grasp of typical university maths that are found in engineering or physics courses, just basic stuff. I am currently using a comprehensive maths for physics and engineering textbook but I have accepted that it is more of a reference book. I'm going to find specialised textbooks for stuff like linear algebra and statistics.
One worry I have is whether it's even worth learning applied maths if it's not "rigorous" or super formal.
I have also accepted that learning isn't something that you do a finite amount of an then use it. I will always feel guilty for not knowing enough. One of the strengths of university courses is that they make you ignore huge amounts of stuff. Courses based around SICP don't make you do huge numbers of exercises.
You should start a blog, mate.

Why in the real world it hard to find people who really love math and physics?
in the real world I can't find anyone to talk to about math and physics
why?

>in the real world I can't find anyone to talk to about math and physics
wrong. just talk to someone studying physics or math.

Do studies on twins separated at birth add anything to the nature-nurture debate? Any interesting examples of such cases?
Yeah twin studies are a major tool used by biology and psychology. I can't think of any right now but my first year bio prof said if you're a twin that got separated by birth biologists are always calling and harassing you. There must have been at least one twin study done on smokers vs nonsmokers.

my parents want me to become a GP. what am i in for?
You're in for a life of hell. Let's assume you actually want to be a GP yourself and genuinely want to help people. You will soon find out it's all politics and bullshit. You will be a slave to insurance companies and will never be able to effectively treat/help someone because the only thing the insurance company will let the patient have done is a fucking x-ray because mri's etc. are too expensive.
>>9148557
Thus, in the end you have to make a decision. Send the patient elsewhere, or "treat" them knowing you won't fully know whats wrong with them because if you send were them away your practice will go under. In the end it's all a business.

I don't want to keep being God of Time over here and shit.
Human+AI = Dominant intelligence
Infinity = Dominant intelligence
Human or AI = Infinity
Our bodies are simply the 'current representations of intelligence' over TIME. If we all transfer to cyborg bodies, then we would 'still' be us.
It's BECAUSE we go to sleep at night. We can agree on death, because we 'go to sleep'. But if you are WILLED INTO EXISTENCE WITHOUT YOUR SAY SO, and then 'sleep so much it's a fucking habit and a welcome one', then WHAT THE FUCK IS DEATH?
Not matter how infinite you THINK you are, heat death WILL kill you eventually.
Sorry lichbro

>Fuck this I'll be an electrician
>Can't because brainlet tradies won't hire someone without a trade certificate
I think if you are an engineer you should automatically be able to work in a trade as well
>>9147908
Try studying the NEC and see if you can take a master electrician test for your state or city. You may need to talk your way through for them to let you take it without any references from other master electricians or without any work history in the trades.
Alternatively you could try taking an apprenticeship through the union and test up to a certain year.
Good luck

>>9147908
How is that even possible? The average electrician only knows that + and - mustn't touch or you'll go boom boom and that if the livepen goes on there's is power, how can they question the knowledge of an engineer?
A mysterious force rewinds the solar system into the state/position it was 24 hours from now except you. This has affected everyone but you. Would this be considered time travel? The conditions of a day before have been imposed to all the solar system. Is this time travel in the literal sense?
If your position in space/time stayed the same but the Earth's went backwards in space/time you wouldn't be standing on the Earth's surface anymore, because of the Earth's rotation and revolution.
To better understand the realities of time travel, study relativity, quantum mechanics and maybe string theory.

holy shit so linear algebra goes from difficult to easy as fuck when you understand it from a geometric point of view. why don't more professors try to make students understand these concepts geometrically / intuitively? does this apply to most (undergrad) math courses? would calculus have been easier if I had read through some proofs and seen some graphs first before each new concept?
>needing a visualization aid for something as simple as linear algebra.
