What does learning high school math in america/(insert your european country) looks like? What do you learn? I'm asking because I often hear that brazilian's math education is somewhat "harder" than most countries.
Here is what some of my 3rd year (the last high school year) "learning" books used to look like.
Basically quadratic equations, logarithm, matrix, functions, arithmetic+geometric progressions and some other shit.

So I'm in the UK, and I'm doing Chemistry as a degree. Thing is, I'm taking a gap year.
Long story short, I don't want my memory to lapse, and I also do want to learn while I'm "off" so to speak, so would like some good introductory Chemistry textbooks at University level.
It's case you're wondering, my course is straight up Chemistry, so any textbooks to that effect would be ideal.
Missed the sticky?

Don't bother.
I have just finished my MChem at Leeds and about to start my PhD - what you will learn at uni is nothing you could prep for because:
a) if it's a specific branch of chemistry you are interested in, for example organic synthesis, this is only one third of the course because there are organic/inorganic/physical courses that you need to learn and you will NOT enjoy or want to prep for all of them for fun.
b) this is probably the most important point, whatever you learn will probably not be on the curriculum. The professors all write their own exams depending on what they specialize on so there is no 'one introduction' that you could learn now that is good because the likelihood is it won't be on the course at all.
c) if you try to learn chemistry now, you just won't remember it. 2 weeks after every exam, I forget all of the content I've learnt, and so does everyone else. You learn the content for the exam and you apply it, then you forget it - learning content now won't put you at an advantage because:
i) you'll simply forget it
ii) you'll go over it in significantly more detail in the uni introductory lectures anyway
I understand you wanna be productive, but just relax while you can cos the content will hit you hard and fast when you actually start. It's pointless starting now, trust me from experience.
P.S. I also did a gap year before my chemistry course.
Let's discuss the root evil of our modern society.

Overpopulation is being solved as we speak.
Europe, Japan, Australia, North America all have little or even negative growth.
Side effect: we are going extinct.
>>9122055
you're naming a relatively small subset of the world population, poor countries have really high birth rates

I thought those were minorities...

I agree with you.
You have the numbers 1, 2, 2, 4 , 4
Make the number 39. You need to use all of them once.
>>9120522
2(4^2 + 4) -1
[eqn]4\,\star\,1\,-\,2[/eqn]
Where [math]a\,\star\,b\,=\,10\,a\,+\,b[/math].
g(1,2,2,4,4) = 39
I don't understand
Phenotyplets just don't understand anon.
because NDT is a science communicator, not a scientist. yes, he has degrees, mostly honorable doctorates and does no research. he writes books, has appearances, but does not actively work in the field.
he stands on the shoulder of giants and appears to be larger than life, but he's just a tv personallity, parroting others discoveries to educate and entertain.
he just had luck that carl sagan, another science populist, was his mentor who made him that awesome person he is today.
but i would not put him on the same level as Einstein or hawking because these two actually have scientific publications of their works, and not just essays and books like NDT.

Math really isn't for everyone
Why do people keep trying to convince you it is though?
You make people waste their lives when giving such bullshit to other's
This, there is absolutly no reason a starbucks employee needs to know anyhing more than basic arithmetic.

Are Transsexuals gay? Are their partners gay? How gay? Is it more of less gay than two full on guys?
Please use math
Show your work
There's something everyone can agree on - an MTF+MTF couple or a FTM+FTM couple is guaranteed gay
Starting from the definition: "Homosexuality is romantic attraction, sexual attraction or sexual behavior between members of the same sex or gender."
From this it is trivial to show that transsexuals are gay if and only if they are attracted to other transsexuals.
From the definition, it also follows that men who like traps are gay.
Note that the homosexuality with this definition is a binary state and thus it doesn't make sense to compare if something is gayer than the other.
>>9118036
>Are Transsexuals gay?
Yes.
>Are their partners gay?
Yes.
>How gay?
Very.
>Is it more of less gay than two full on guys?
It's the same, since THEY'RE BOTH MEN YOU FUCKING RETARD.
Also, nice pic there choosing the 1 tranny out of 1,000,000 who actually looks like a girl. Methinks you may be subconsciously telling us something...
I have a game: How many clicks separate "Antikythera" from "Syphilis" in wikipedia?
The rules are:
>1. You can click any hyperlink inside the page
>2. You may look for links with ctrl+F
>3. You may start on "Antikythera" or "Syphilis", but you cannot advance both to a midpoint
>4. You cannot search words using the search bar
>5. Every hyperlink clicked adds 1 degree.
I got 7 degrees. If you have a better path, post it.

So I have three codes:
12902577280600500
12901087923900300
12902583245400700
assuming the prefix and suffix digits, as well as the 00 before the end remain the same, is there a pattern or formula to generate the others?
so 1290xxxxxxxx00x00
I have tried checksum formulas but have no luck.
tl;dr Are these randomly generated numbers or is there a formula?
>>9125176
Where did you get these numbers? Give some context
>>9125183
They are coupons from Food Lion, but not for food. I tried local phone numbers at their coupon kiosk and it gave me these coupons.
>>9125183
The coupons can be redeemed at a lottery ticket kiosk. Basically a free $1 voucher for a Mega Millions lottery ticket
What are everyones opinions, thoughts, arguments, gripes, etc. about Marijuana being smoked during key brain development years (teenage years)?
Does it have lasting effects?

you probably lost a few iq points (up to 8 i think some study showed), and the ratio between gray and white matter in your brain should be changed.

Im 25 been smoking weed since I was 14
I'm worried even if I quit I'm always going to be a perma fried brainlet.
Going back to college in 2 weeks.
Is there any infomation to suggest one way or the other that is not the case?
Are there any solutions?
Multiply by [math]b[/math] and solve the polynomial. Then solve for [math]a[/math].
a*b=a/b => ab^2=a => b^2=1 => b= 1, -1
a+1=a*1=a has no solutions
a-1 = a*(-1)=-a has solution a=1/2
so only solution is a=1/2, b=-1
I'm sure a = 0, b = 0 would be a solution if people weren't so autistic about dividing by 0.
Given a n by n grid, what's the longest path between the cells such that the path does not overlap and no path cell is adjacent to more than 2 other cells (the one it go to, and come from). The start and end of the path may be placed anywhere on the grid. (I'm specifically interested in a 32x32 grid)
No, not homework, just very curious.
A zig-zag pattern (all the way along a row, then dow two, then all the way along a row the other way) starting in the top left and ending in the bottom left would get you out of a total of 1024 grid, so a little over half.
A spiral would be another good solution but I'm not sure how to calculate that

can creationism and the theory of evolution live together? also islam helped to build some foundations for modern day science. Quran 24:45

they certainly can, but creationism is going to have to remain vague and metaphorical

>>9124290
Surely they can, evolution happens all the time. However the belief that the Earth is 6000 years old isn't compatible with the theory of evolution as the cause of the origin of species.
