Lifting is such a fad. in 20 years when people start to look back at what the "things" were for this decade, lifting will be near the top of the list. That and just trying to be "manly" in general.
I tried lifting for a while, put on a good amount of muscle, but lifting wont help you with your social skills which is what you really need most. Enjoy your gains though, I guess. As meaningless as they are.
Im an Olympic lifter/sprinter, so a well Developed chest isn't ideal. It can actually mess with your arm swing during gait pretty horribly.
A big back and shoulders help tremendously though, and thats what I develop when I am doing cleans.
Bench really has no transferable qualities to most sports besides lacrosse, Hockey and football.

the only reason i took up lifting is because i wanted to look good in pictures and on the beach and stuff. the most crucial muscles im trying to develop are chest, back, and shoulders. i want that V look. legs are secondary to me
Lifting gives you confidence in two ways:
Personal improvement. Aren't you curious what kind of potential your body has? If you get too old you will never be able to see it. Setting personal records 3 times a week for months feels baller
Feeling better than others. Genetics aside, lifting is the only visible thing that you can improve (and clothes, but whatever, that's easy). Look around the room, there might be really smart talended people there, but the only thing that's obvious to everyone at first glance is that you can lift more than any of them. Feels good mane

Started lifting a month ago, when do the first results kick in? I'm skinny as fuck and just want to get a nice body, don't want to be bearmode or anything.
I don't do it for girls because I know that being fit won't bring me any, I just do it to have something to think about besides wanting to end myself.

If you've been maintaining a proper diet with a few hundred calorie surplus you should have already noticed some noob gains by now. Be sure you've correct form & a practical routine.

But I don't want to grow fat, I eat more than usual, try to get good proteins, but can't eat like a cow like you are supposed too. I just want to shape up my body. I have a good full body routine and I feel that my body is changing.

Yes, it can. An attractive face on an ugly body is instantly less attractive. Likewise, an ugly face on the body of a Greek god is instantly more handsome.

A 300 calorie surplus to your TDEE will not make you fat. Muscle will not build if don't provide the calories required for them to.

This, the edorphins are splendid. They're reward enough on their own & you become to need your fix when lifting becomes routine. If you lift vigorously, you can't help but feel so accomplished & potent afterwards.
Lifting is a great way to unwind & think, even better while listening to some upbeat, yet lax music, i.e Nujabes & Flight Facilities.

it sucks that my confidence is all based on material basically, otherwise i'm pretty confident in myself.
