>>26449828 It made online identity start mattering to highschool students. It made their social lives follow them home every day, and once smartphones were added ontop of all that, well, then it follows them everywhere.
So out comes a generation of kids obsessed with curating their own identity, and boy oh boy, doesn't that just totally dovetail with the 'everyone's special, everyone's a winner' mentality of the 90's that they were subjected to in their childhoods?
Now everyone is a myopic little narcissist who cares about looking cool on the internet, and since they're glued to their phones 24/7, they never, ever stop thinking about this shit. So 'cyberbullying' becomes a real thing to these morons, because none of them can remember how to function without social media in their life. They all need their precious feeling protected, they don't want to see or hear anything they disagree with, lest they be 'offended'.
That's how we got to the fucking mess we're in now.
>>26450137 That's in addition to it being available to the mainstream at all. It's true that AOL made the internet more accessible, but you still needed an expensive computer, a second phone line (or sacrificing it while online) and someone in your family to understand computers. tl;dr: Niche thing gets popular, loses its identity. At least comic books, video games, and imageboards are safe!
This got me thinking the other day, there is a sort of transitional phase on the 6th year of the decade then in the 7th year the changes become evident and a lot of new things become popular, this carries on till the 1st year of the next decade where everything reaches a peak then everything starts to decline.
I'm predicting a lot of changes this year, a lot of things will change and this will become more evident next year when we start to look back at it.
>>26449595 >tfw I started high school in 2007 >mfw everything was supposed to be different, I was supposed to break out of my shell, make friends, and do well in school >mfw it was the first of many years I'd spend eating lunch alone under the stairs.
Got myself a tulpa that year. Records show that first successful autonomous interaction was purely auditory and happened on 14.06.2007. The road to continuous and good visual hallucinations was long, first documented success being 18.11.2008. Soon followed a successful tactile hallucination on 19.11.2008. None were induced, but autonomous, initiated by her.
I got heavily involved in child porn, then graduated high school, tried to work in construction, had a heat stroke, turned 18, started smoking, discovered anime, discovered 4chan, decided to stop using CP but failed (as I would continually try and fail until around 2011), totaled my car, helped my only two friends pack their shit for college, got beaten up by a nigger right outside my house, lost will to leave my room, then, most embarrassing at all, started crying at Christmas diner when an uncle asked where I was working when I said I didn't go to college.
2007-2008 was when society fell apart. >Obama wins and heralds in the age of hyper-PC >SJWs begin their offensive to take over all nerd things >social media infects everything >Video games become shit >Comic books become shit >animu becomes shit >Internet becomes full-fledged normie >Cool shit like AIM/MSN and message boards start to die >Toonami cancelled >My IBS appears for the first time >I start balding >The last of my HS friends drift away >My childhood Golden Retriever dies
FUCK YOU 2008 REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

by far the best year, haven't had a better one since
>everything is a blur past 2007 >can barely recall anything good happening after 2007 >autistically can pull out facts about 2007 including things im not even interested in such as sport >wasn't even that special, spent most of the year playing runescape >you will never wake up to cheeseTV in the morning and watch beyblades >you will never go back to habbo hotel with emo's from your classes >you will never fish for lobsters in karamja with dozens of others >you will never go on msn again and talk to actual teen grils >you will never send people gifs of text over msn again
>>26450752 >people still didn't really understand what the internet was for, and it was still super easy to wind up on or come across insane websites >geocities websites were not uncommon >the internet had mystery. it was still an elite club known to few
Nigga what? 2007 was when people's parents and teenage siblings started getting facebook profiles. It was the year after "you :^)" were Time's person of the year. The internet was mostly one big commercial by 2007.
>>26455687 I get really sick of cynicism nowadays. Going on /v/ is fucking torture because they just have to be cynics about EVERYTHING. Not that liking everything unconditionally is better though, sometimes it's worse.
