by producing positive feedback.

Introducing something positive into your life
Or changing the mechanics of the feedback loop (if you talking psychologically, this would mean changing your thought patterns)

That's just window dressing. Polishing a turd doesn't stop it being a turd.

your thoughts are intrinsically linked to the situation you're in. You cant have positive thoughts unless you're in a positive situation.

Not him but I feel better when I'm being friendly and helpful. It's even better when you receive a thanks because it's kind of reassuring and instils confidence.
That confidence allows you to treat yourself better. Although I dunno if this would work for everyone.

Why the fuck would you want a positive feedback loop in your life

That would immediately produce an unstable system and shit would hit the fan

Just design a carefully controlled negative feedback controller and adjust the setpoint as needed

This. Helping people boosts your confidence. Unfortunately, it's very difficult to just go out and help some one these days. Charities are mostly filled with clerical shit rather than hands on help.

The sad thing though is that I find myself being perfectly at ease with myself for a few hours, but then I get back to my usual negative, depressed self. I cannot maintain my peace of mind.
