Just watched the episode where pic related was introduced and I think she has put me off the show. Such a terrible character.
I'm pretty normal so this is only my third anime after DBZ and Bebop. Am I doing something wrong or do you have to be literally retarded to like anime?
>implying non-shit people exist
well maymayed m'friend :^)
keep going that character becomes less relevant in the next few episodes and the finale
she's even more stupid in the rebuilds but you don't have to watch those if you get annoyed
Don't worry, she becomes a much better character as the reasons behind her narcisism become more obvious.
Your watching of the series will continue to follow the plan laid out in the Dead Sea Scrolls.
It was one of the first I saw as well, never managed to take a liking to it either. Rei and Gendo were the only chars I found interesting. But as some other anon said, Asukas isn't quite as much in ones face later on as other chars get introduced and stuff happens.
Oh no, a stranger called me edgy on a nazi imageboard for jobless weebs. Then, as if to rub salt in my emotional wounds, he said my memes weren't fresh enough. What am I to do?
Well, not become, so much as that more is revealed. Her emotional damage is nearly identical to that of Shinji, but she deals with it by hiding it underneath narcissism. When she is finally defeated, she realizes that she is worthless and loses the will to live.
kek, damnit anon, you must remember to keep your memes fresh at all times. Edgy totally isn't a memeworthy buzzword at all btw
she gains self confidence in EOE and gets BTFO.
This is definitely not a good 3rd anime choice. Check out /wsr/ for some suggestions. It's more of a 25th kind of anime. It's very good in my opinion regardless, but not top 5.
Asukafag detected. She is outright emotionally abusive toward Shinji, that alone makes me dislike her (and I am the one defending her); she is simply necessary to be the physical embodiment of Shinji's antithesis.
Asuka is sort of the rule 63 of a robot. No mother figure, so she develops like a boy. Ambitious, egotistical, socially dominant. Represses her feelings and hates herself. Just wants the love she never got as a child. Tries to get it by competing for everyone's approval - it doesn't work.
The archtypical robot is male but developed like a girl thanks to having no father figure in his early years. Submissive, passive, socially reclusive. Openly vents about his 'feels'.
The point at which the two converge is that they both hate themselves and want to be loved.
Asuka genuinely cares about him, hence why she did pic related.
This is a deliberate parallel with the infamous 'Shinji with jizz on hand' frame. Both characters are being compelled by love (Asuka) or lust (Shinji) to do things that are utterly out of character for them. Like as far as you can go out of character.
Oh, I see.
Personally, I like Fuyutsuki a lot. He is an underrated character. Though, Shinji is my favorite.
OP confirmed for shit taste.
Also see pic related. Why do you think he got in the robot? It sure wasn't because he 'manned up' or anything like that. Just the thought of so much blood on his hands. A city worth of it. And Rei's. His family's blood, whether he knew it at the time or not.
The context is Asuka spent the day slicing her hands up accidentally as she tried to learn how to cook in order to feed Shinji at a meeting with his dad which she knew meant a lot with him.
She did that in the original series too. I just used the rebuild photo because it's prettier.
It's not about how many you've seen, but your understanding of it. I had to watch it several times to really understand it and I only understand it from my perspective.
Not as much as Yui, she literally got one episode and that's it.
He fucking wanked to a naked 'friend' of his and openly regrets it. He's pretty fucked but that's to be expected.
The photo is from the movies but she does it in the series too.
In the series she also lies down next to him on his futon and pretends to be asleep to see what he'll do. Then later she asks him to kiss her. It's obvious she sees him as more than competition.
It is not that she bullies him, it is how she does it. She deliberately references his mother's death at least twice ("Is it like being in mother's womb?" in a taunting voice and "What's the matter, [mocking voice] are you worried your mother is watching you from Heaven?"). It would be one thing for her to just sort of lightly taunt him, it is another to deliberately bring up the worst of his memories. She certainly got upset when the Angel brought up the same memory for her.
In which episode?
The Magi have no record of this event!
I guarantee the majority of shows most people watch were made after NGE anyway when said tropes were more solidified by postmodern feedback loops of self-parody. Part of the thing that makes NGE good is that it appeals to people outside the typical weeb crowd, maybe a less experienced viewer would miss the deconstruction of particular anime tropes, but in my opinion those things are a much less noteworthy part of NGEs commentary than say... Shinji's introversion and dependency, which relates to much more people on a much deeper level.
Since this thread is shit I might as well ask a question
I watched the first rebuild movie last night and I was expecting it to diverge much more than it did. Does the second one make huge changes to what happens in the actual series? Does Asuka shit it up too much?
1 and 2 are condensed versions of Evangelion up till the general time of the impact. The end of 2 is the impact. 3 is the aftermath of the impact.
Asuka isn't even the same character, Toji is not the Fourth Child, whole bunch of shit goes down.
The Committee rates it 3/10. Parts of it are good, but the rest diverge from canon to the point that it triggers my monolithic autism.
Asuka is the same character until 3.0, but with her most normie-unfriendly scenes (like the bathtub suicide attempt scene, the angel mindrape scene, muttering in her sleep about her dead mother) removed or trimmed down heavily.
I can't wait for cyborg (I mean SEELE visors count right?) gendo to strangle some worker denying the existence of the paranormal and pinning it on an elaborate double-conspiracy scheme that still makes gendo king of everything
Asuka is trained in close quarters combat and was the top skymarshall for the United Nations air force. I bet she could beat all of you punks up.
No, someone from a really obscure movie called UFO.
I don't know if anno was inspired from or even watched the star wars series but they're both from sci-fi series and are both subordinate to the pretty big but not biggest guy who rebels against his own order and are deeper and more important characters than they appear
I had a pretty good idea of it prior to then, but I don't think we could have inferred everything about the exact circumstances surrounding the event (which shall go undescribed for our newfag friend).
I was pretty depressed when I first watched Eva and it didn't really help. A lot of people say the ending is supposed to be happy but it sure didn't feel happy to me
thanks for the insight, robots
I was also deep in depression when I saw it. The ending has impact, but I also wouldn't describe it as happy (for the viewer, it is a happy ending for Shinji), because it forces in your face that there will not be a supernatural force to help you face the problems in your life.
If you only care about the booty it's worth knowing that Asuka is this stacked and only fourteen years old.
Nobody's ever going to fuck the world up by turning humanity into a unified instrument with no purpose that lives together and force you to assimilate to the normies who bully you until you all accept eachother but still stay with eachother for the rest of eternity (it seems metaphysical too, so no hopes of freezing to death when the universe runs out of juice)
That is what you think, but everything is going precisely as foretold.
One nice thing about the rebuilds is Utada Hikaru's music. There's an unbelievable amount of effort put into both the songs she contributed, especially Sakura Nagashi.
She spoke to the Japanese press about being severely depressed, so many Evangelion was/is more significant to her than you'd think it would be.
Don't you enjoy being depressed and wallowing in self-pity? Evangelion did that for me. I kinda like being sad. When people try to make me happier I get angry because I feel like they're trying to trick me.
hating eva is a meme
but so is liking it
asuka is literally the most complex character in eva and if you think she is just a "shit character" you're just shit at interpretation and need it to be spelled out
I and the rest of the board probably also feel that way, but it's not healthy even if you just feel your personality should be any different
only the NORMIES are happy! I can only be happy for periods of up to 5 minutes with the people in online game lobbies because I have no friends!
You know, when I think about it, Shinji was an Elliot in the making. There is a scene in episode 4 where he is clearly angry after seeing a couple having fun together, and then, of course, in EoE, there is this convo:
Shinji: Nobody wants me. So, everybody just die.
Rei: Then, what are those hands for?
Shinji: Nobody cares whether I exist or not. Nothing will change. So, everybody just die.
Rei: Then, what is that heart for?
Shinji: It'd be better if I wasn't here either. So I should just die, too.
Rei: Then, why are you here?
Shinji: Is it okay for me to be here?
Sort of. I don't get angry at people for trying to cheer me up even though I think I'm being tricked~ I get psyched out crazy bad and retreat into my skull
don't get to post obscure eva art a lot
If you're not charmed by this creature you must be uncharmable.
Anno himself said it was a budget ending and EoE is what he really wanted to make.
I like the original ending too in a way. It's very metaphysical and calm in a way that's quietly apocalyptic. You don't get action movie closeups of Shinji's face as he goes insane. Everything just turns topsy turvy and then it's all over.
Fucking kill yourself right now.
Or atleast continue watching before you judge something. BTW her annoying selfconfidence is what makes her interesting.
If you want to watch shows where characters have no flaws watch SAO or some other shit.
i have only seen the animes original ending, i felt like it was rushed and they could have tied up some loose threads and explained it a little better, what are the other endings like/the other NGE content like?
I don't normally like Rei, but the ending of the original anime where she's saying "Do you want to become one with me" is like ASMR as fuck. I played that shit on AB repeat like 1000 times.
