I consider the post apocalyptic atmosphere comfy at times. There's something about wandering around the wasteland without purpose and looting and hoaring the best items. I also like the soundtracks that add to the atmosphere to be honest.

Only limiting factor is that something tries to kill you every 10 metres

Fallout New Vegas is absolutely the best if you ignore the repetitious main quest and spend your time being a junker going through old ruins looking for loot and materials to scrap. Also with some mods you can make it however you want.

You HAVE to play on Master. The only difference difficulty makes is how many bullets it takes to kill something...which applies to your guns AND their guns, so you're actually hurting yourself by playing on a lower difficulty.
