First and foremost, I hate it's format. 4chan's threads are very pleasing to read because the comments are in sequential order. The threads/discussions on reddit, on the other hand, are a mess because they're all out of order. Even sorting by "oldest first" doesn't help much because it still displays new replies before older comments, and most people on the site don't read/respond to threads that way anyway. Reading it is just a mess.
And it goes without saying that the upvote system is horrible. It does indeed turn it into way more of a hivemind. Also, people dont comment to say something interesting or what's really on their mind, they comment to get the most upvotes. So everyone races to say the "funniest" or most interesting thing possible instead of naturally discussing something.
Finally the moderation seems incredibly intense, seems like you can hardly say anything thats not stricly approved. Being on 4chan for so long I'm really not used to that and I think it's very limiting/draining. In general, I think the less moderation the better.
>>26191669 Reddit and 4chan have fundamentally different methods of operation; they're philosophically at odds.
I'm sure, unless you're the newest of newfags, that you've seen tripfagging called out as negative. This is because the tripfag, by using their name, is calling attention to themselves rather than the topic at hand.
Now picture a site populated exclusively by tripfags, with all the narcissism and deep-seated desire for attention that implies. Because that's what Reddit is.
>>26191669 because they don't know the site well enough to find anything good on it if everyone who came to 4chan goes straight to /b//, they'd think the entire site was a piece of shit reddit's not as bad as it's made out to be, no one on 4chan has looked hard enough on it to find anything that isn't terrible or stolen content it has a different format to 4chan but it's not a bad format, it just works in a different way
I dislike a lot of things about the place but it's the humor of redditors I hate the most. It's just shitty puns and the worst memes being spouted and forced (4channers do this with memes too but not to the same extent). I feel like prolonged exposure to reddit would rot my braincells just because how unfunny they are.
I used to go there a lot, and it really is nothing but a giant circlejerk. The voting system creates a weird almost cult-like community of people that strive to parrot every popular opinion in order to get the most "karma points". These same idiots upvote the same shitty beaten to death memes over and over which just makes for a sterile and boring experience.
>>26191955 Did you know that most people have morals?
I think that's interesting. Even more because I think most of the time they ignore or don't consider them. You'd assume if something was supposedly so important to people they'd give them a bit more thought.
Down vote - up vote system creates an echo chamber, although, I do like some niche subreddits, but for the most part, IE: the front page, and big subreddits are cesspools like /r/videos /r/music etc.
To be honest I don't really give a shit about reddit, and perpetuating this whole "fuck reddit" thing is no better than the circle jerking going on on that website, if you don't like it move on, there a plenty of shitposts to go around here, there is no need for this.
>>26193403 not even politics, go to the section showing all the posts on the site. It's just bernie, cuck stuff and those image+text pics that are the sort of thing a middle aged mother would post to facebook
>>26192047 This is pretty much it for me. I'm subscribed to a few smaller boards that I check on occasionally, but most of it is cancer. People type a lot of words without really saying anything. The voting system creates a dynamic where you only get heard if you have an opinion that matches the most popular opinion. Here everyone's shitty opinions get the same chance to be seen by others.
Half of you dumbfucks don't even know why 4chan hates Reddit, you just climb onto the bang wagon because you see other people doing. I fully fucking agree with the fact that Reddit is full of pseudo intellectual bullshit and circle jerking faggots, but that's only select parts of the website. You're just spewing anger over the internet for a stupid reason. It's not like 4chan is perfect either, I mean, seriously. 90% of the people on this website are just straight up fucking liars and trolls. I'm not even saying that's a bad fucking thing, that's the beauty of this website. It's all about anonymity, to every degree. There is no community here, only "established" rules for which one should follow if they do not wish to be shamed by their fellow anons.
It's all just a lie, anon. All of this. The sooner you realize that, the better your results are gonna be.
I hate how they all hop on bandwagon moral crusades. Remember that guy who recently cranked the price of some AIDS-related medication? Remember how all of reddit jumped on the guy and basically declared him the devil? I'm not saying he was a good guy, however the way the all jump on shit like that is just disgusting.
I fucking kek'd. In seems like every screen shotted thing I've seen from reddit is "my girlfriend..." and every guy I know who uses reddit and has a girlfriend, has a fat, uninteresting "nerdy" girlfriend no one else wants.
I agree with this to an extent. I think that's why we get people complaining about Reddit and then turning around and linking to threads on it. Like they don't get. When we originalfags say we hate it and don't want to deal with it we fucking mean it. It's not just a repeated meme. People from there don't get that, obviously.
Reddit is useful for finding things but it's not enjoyable to post on at all. 4chan is superior because you can say almost anything and people will see it, whereas if you say something controversial on reddit it'll get downvoted and hidden. Also I'm not really a fan of the upvote system, it seems that a lot of people reddit just say certain things because they know it'll give them upvotes.
I really don't even care about it at all, but then I'm probably one of the few that doesn't post on both. Naturally I don't care because it has no part in my life, other than when people on 4chan whine about it.
>>26191669 >reddit HAS and enforces its rules with impunity and the community follows those rules with fervor and report shit and get things deleted because downvote >4chan has rules but we blatantly disregard them and only get banned if we get caught >4chan2.0 has rules and its posters follow them and report things like faggots and then ban
If you "like" 4chan2.0 you are a reddit tier faggot. Old 4chan was the best because nobody gave a fuck, but now its filled with retarded reddshits.
reddit was cool at first, i actuallly stopped coming to 4chan for a good few 5 or 6 months and chose reddit instead, but now i can't even read comments on reddit without being TRIGGERED because everything on the front page is dumb feel good normie shit. i won't stop going completely, and 4chan is honestly shit as well, but it's just not what anyone needs in their life. it's not fucking real and really distracts us from our own lives and puts us in this dumb fantasy world where we only say shit to be liked by everyone. 4chan is only good because i can actually tell someone they are fucking retarded without being censored
heres how i would describe it: 4chaners are self-deprecating, we all know we are losers and faggots who don't really know shit about anything. there isnt a whole lot we have to prove. people on reddit on the other hand are the opposite, they think they are smart and enlightened and cultured
They ruin the things I like by liking it without doing their research, without fact checking.
It's like sharing a pool with autistic children with shitty trunks. They just dive in and ruin the whole fucking thing for everyone making it uncomfortable to even be there.
Worse yet they have no agency about the lengths to which they're ruining it, and carry on like enthusiastic happy little mutants. Like children run amok without chaperones.
It sickens an objective pessimistic edgelord like myself.
Also the format succs ass. I click a link and it takes the whole page there, then, in my nature I close the window i'm finished reading. Not realizing that it was the same page and not a new tab, LIKE THEY SHOULD BE.
it's the people. they realized that a cheap way to get points there is to repeat whatever they heard someone else say. movie and tv quotes are most effective; people that havent even seen the show in question will post the line just to get points and they end up mistaking this parroting for humor
they know what opinions are the accepted opinion there so they will just tell people what they want to hear to get more points
do women like tiny dicks? "oh yes, i'm a woman and i love tiny dicks" 700 upvotes from guys with tiny dicks
the permanent and varied nature of the content makes it a necessary evil but the people there are intolerable and most should be killed.
>>26196045 This is what bothers me as well. On the off chance that anything actually funny or interesting happens there, people just spam references to it, running it into the ground. Retards then upvote this shit, pushing it to the top of the thread, where it stays, blocking out any actual discussion. Dissenting opinions on topics are downvoted without a response, so they stay at the bottom and nobody ever sees/discusses them. So anyone looking for replies has to state an opinion that they know everyone agrees with. It's a fucking awful system and most of them are too stupid to see it.
>unironically steal our memes >horrible upvote system, encourages people to post only bland puns with the widest appeal possible and never EVER disagree with the mainstream opinion lest their post be literally hidden >horrible site design, have to expand sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub pages to follow one conversation >it seems really hard to get a good conversation going, people are so paranoid about being downvoted or someone checking on their post history in a years time that they dont want to reply to someone just asking a question
Reddit is terrible, because any unpopular opinions can just be silenced by the community, and they take away your karma like you're a small child. When you look at the top comments they're all puns, inside jokes and people repeating the same politically correct opinion.
So when Redditors come to our board, they don't bother to try and understand our dislike to it and instead just call us loser virgins.
4chan >Anonymity, no "karma" (ego self-suck) points for stupid faglords >Shitposting is king >Opinions influence discussion for either better or worse >Almost always something original posted (usually copied to reddit)
Reddit >Designed specifically for hiveminds >Ego-stroking Karma system to discourage dissenting opinions (helpful on some subreddits that help with shit I guess) >Fucking horrible layout, just gouge my eyes out with spoons please >People on reddit feel the innate need to tie an identity to themself from both the real world and on reddit
And a special guest: Tumblr! >Combines the vitriol of 4chan with even more extreme ego-stroking and general retardation >An even more horrible layout than reddit unless the person who runs their blog or whatever can actually make it look decent (rare) >Used exclusively for people to bitch about their problems or porn >Usually use reddit too >The absolute lowest scum browse here
>>26192858 >back when I was in school, 4chan was blocked and reddit was unblocked >had 4 classes each week where it was just "study" sessions >being the procrastinating autist I was, took the plunge and went on plebbit >Jesus Christ all the time I spent slacking off, those niche boards weren't exactly an exception >"My girlfriend did this!" >"As an introvert" >"My kids did this" >"Am I the only one?" >"As a girl" >shit taste
Only scratching the surface, but after all that time looking at leftist dribble, you can see just how far this site and board has fallen with those reddit influxes
>mfw want to check out an AMA on reddit and the celebrities answers are all over the place out of order and sometimes even hidden because the guy asking the question got downvoted and I cant even just look at their comment history because finding context for their response is so hard so I just have to go to a website that categorizes the questions and answers for you
FIX YOUR FUCKING WEBSITES LAYOUT YOU LIBKEK FUCKS THIS IS WHAT BROWSING THE INTERNET WAS LIKE TWO FUCKING DECADES AGO
The average redditor is almost identical to the average 4chan user except they're pretending to be nicer and to hold more gentle opinions. It's nowhere as near as bad as anyone here says overtly, but it's like watching a thousand people quietly lie to each other and sneak into the intellectual and moral highground over each other, slowly tricking themselves that they are actually who they say they are in their posts. Smaller subs don't have this problem very often except in people who are concerned in setting up an image for themselves. Basically a website of tripfags.
>>26197361 Found this on /pol/ some time ago and they have a point:
>come to Germany >White women are clapping and creaming their pants because of you >get free shit and cash >do whatever you want without any consequences >german males are forced to work so they can pay for your clothes, flat and clothing >don't need to learn German >don't need to accept their culture >other white germans are protecting you and fight against their own germans because muh racism >sell some drugs to get more cash >people believe that you are a valuable doctor or engineer even if you can barely read or write >underage white bitches adore you and you can fuck them freely
>>26191669 I can't believe I almost went to write a huge essay about this just listing the variety of shit
They're newfags. They're normalfags. Their humour is shit. Censorship of anything fun.
There really isn't a huge difference between the average 4chan user and average reddit user today.
>>26197634 Except the format is absolutely terrible. It's not made for discussion, it's made so someone can say something funny/quirky and get to the top spot. Sometimes the highest voted thing is a legitimate piece of information or whatever. Names, "Karma"/reputation and voting systems are all terrible for discussion.
>>26191669 they pretend it's some beacon for intellectual discussion when in reality, if you go to any thread right now, it'll most likely follow this pattern:
>informative and concise comment that adds to the discussion +2134 >comment that agrees and adds to the point or refutes it +1867 >le epic movie reference +1226 >pun +844 >meta reference +673 >video game reference +432 >pun +297 >pun +205 >pun +192
the point is a small minority actually know what their talking about. the rest just ride on their coattails and bask in circlejerk of smug unearned self righteousness
>>26191918 >it's not a bad format It is a bad format for discussion It is a bad format for anything controversial It is a bad format because it's susceptible to censorship and control The only benefit to the format is being able to have a variety of things of a particular subject available.
This is why it appeals to plenty of 9gag memers because they can click, load a funny meme comic and give it a thumbs up before replying some stupid pun. It also appeals to people like me because it has an archive of videos labelled justiceporn or combatfootage which I can go through, hoping that the mods actually remove duplicate shit posted every day by some mouth-breather and upvoted by other mouth-breathers, and watch the clips without looking at the shitty comments below.
There's nothing wrong with using reddit any more than using YouTube even though that faced heavy lashback on 4chan when it started getting popular because of the shitty community
The few times I go there, I see a thread about an interesting topic, click it, the top upvoted comment is some unfunny joke or statement, most of the replies in the thread are replies to the said comment. Is that how it always is or am i doing something wrong?
Their website UI is awful for something that is supposed to be newer than 4chan. At least this site is easy to navigate and to respond to other anons. The Up vote system is something that should never exist in any community and the social crybabies on their make it awful for expressing your own thoughts without any censorship. I know of Reddit users in my life. They are probably some of the most idiotic and immature people I had ever encountered in my life. I would rather hang out with normies rather than you average reddit user.
>>26191955 morals are good for social interaction and are a part of having values and standards, though their validness and importance varies. but you become a moralFAG when you put your morals front of your logic sense, when you turn into an entitled net police, when you act like a cry baby and get all defensive when your morals get hurt then do things like censor stuff. That's basically Reddit though, a community by moralfags for moralfags.
Because reddit has the privilege of being disclosed without the fear of the person being told about it ending up watching a bunch of dick threads while getting the wrong idea about you. Therefore it grows in popularity faster.
I don't know why 4chan considers reddit to be so PC, normies on average are dislike redditors for being so un-PC. Pro >you can go on there and find literally any anything that pertains to your interest, even r9k doesn't like taking about anything beyond normies and wizardry. Con > they aren't funny, it's just bad puns and recycled references > much like /cgl/ they want to be edgy too because 4chan is known its edginess, but the butthurt overpowers them; when your shitposting you have to accept that the other person might troll you back. The fun is in ramping up the insults. >What isn't fun is getting Mummy Mods to come in and ban you because the other person actually got offended and is looking for a reason to save face. /r9k/ and /pol/ are actually really good with trolling, it's all a game we play. > Reddit are not good with trolling because it gets too personal for them. ie I called you a nigga but I banned you for being homophobic because muh brothers gay and I got triggered
>>26201217 Yeah, outside of the main subreddits plenty of people openly have very non PC opinions. The bigger issue with reddit is the absolute intense censorship and moderation, and generally shitty community. Smaller subreddits are fine, but the sheer amount of posts that get removed is fucking insane
>>26202627 Yeah I know. He apparently tried to post on this board at one point. This was just one example. The PC and SJW bullshit is much better outside of default subreddits, but the censorship and heavy moderaiton is still pretty bad.
r/metal and r/powermetal are alright desu. Cuz lord help me if I go to /mu/ and try to talk about any other metal band that isn't some shit mainstream crap or the most underground, recorded through a tin can black metal
It's too focused on getting le epic comment for the the upboat!!111 Seriously, go into one of the "joke" posts, you will see an endless stream of people trying to make more jokes with poor results.
When you go from 4chan to Reddit everyone will seem like a desperate attention whore, since you're used to the anonymity and lack of interest in "internet points". Any community or forum that has some kind of post grading system will eventually go down the shitter.
4chan has equality. Reddit is a left wing directorship.
You can say whats on your mind with no problem. You are judged by your post and contact. Freedom of speech and freedom of choice is hard to find now so even better.
Just like martin Luther King said.
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character". Everyone has a say and everyone is the same, its only your post changes your character. You are what you post.
>>26191669 Because Reddit interferes with 2 main 4chan policies
1. Anonymity, this is well-liked on 4chan since there's a focus on the post itself, and not the person who posted it. Part of the reason why namefags and tripfags are hated here.
2. Freedom of speech, on 4chan, all posts are made equally, you can view all posts just as easily, whether good or bad. This is a major flaw for Reddit, with their upvote/downvote system. It leads to karmawhoring, where a user simply makes a post for likes, adding nothing to the conversation.
Leading on from this, a voting system further alienates its users. Said something that went against the status quo? prepare to be downvoted into oblivion. It essentially creates a massive hugbox which we all mock to this day.
You know how annoying the average tripfag is right? No respect for board culture, has to tie their posts in with their identity to give them any merit, doesn't understand the point of an anonymous image board?
