Any sort of physical activity will do it really, lifting is just one that has a low barrier of entry, anyone can go and lift weights and feel good about themselves for making progress, it takes a while to make noticeable progress in other sports.

If you're past that point and have made good progress though, then I agree, it's a great way to get that same feeling.

But it's not exactly tedious, it's an hour or so a day, a few days a week, and you're not going to be under a couple hundred pounds of weight going "gee, this is boring". Go to /fit/, read the sticky, follow the advice within it. Don't keep posting there though, because the vast majority of posters are under 18 and have been lifting for less than 6 months. Try to stay out of anything that isn't a general or QTDDTOT, those tend to be a bit better.

And go to the gym, no-one will laugh at you as long as you don't start doing stupid shit. People are there to lift, and seeing someone starting out and trying hard is nothing to mock. Everyone starts out somewhere, and most people are either fat or weak to start off.

Maybe you should join those threads that anon listed you stupid fuck and listen, SS is a great starting program for beginners. And that's why you also add in accessory lifts with your compound lifts, ab workout, etc to even everything else out. Even without the accessory lifts there's a good chance you won't look like t-rex like you keep hearing.

Give the book a download and read it through as well, it's just as required as the sticky itself is. The Stronglifts website is pretty great as well for form basics, though SS is more comprehensive.

Pretty much, they are the main ingredient. Pull-ups as it is, is already incorporated into the program which makes you do them i believe at the 3 week mark. Dips you can add yourself or add in things like skull-crushers etc..
