People see college in different ways. Some people see it as an opportunity to find something they like to do, others see it as a way to get a good paying job.

Personally I see college as a good investment in my future, I cannot imagine going to college for some abstract reason. It is literally thousands of dollars a year, you should make sure you can recoup that loss with the skills that you learn.

A friend of mine is working on his masters from an art school. Got a degree in graphic design and only does freelance work. Currently working on jobs for two different large companies and getting paid 5k a piece. When he needs a break from those he works on his own personal projects that he sells online. He just sold a fucking graffiti canvas for $350 and just got invited to sell some of his model trains thst he painted at some art show in NYC

If you are talented and somewhat creative it really doesn't seem like a horrible route

Not every art degree is bad though. If they're attending a college that specializes in specific arts they're probably going to be okay. If they're doing something that's just like art at a major college that's pretty stupid.
There's a lot of jobs open for art majors. Animation, architecture, graphic design, film degrees, interior design, industrial design, sound design, visual effects. These are all jobs that are needed.

Well what did you major in? With any art degree you have to put yourself out there. If you just sat around doing nothing while you were in school and not building contacts that your fault.
I majored in graphic design and right out of college I got a job that pays me around 60k a year. Not a lot but still average middle class wage and I haven't been in the company for long and I can also pick up a lot of side work.
