It looks like a very high ROF gun, probably a Polar Star, which indicates it's also shooting high FPS. Probably between 350 and 400 Feet Per Second.

Depending on the weight of the BB (Could be anywhere from .2 grams to .3), a mass that size moving that fast would hurt pretty badly.

Most Parks/Leagues have a 20 feet engagement rule for rifles - if you're within 20 feet you're supposed to not shoot or switch to a lower FPS pistol. This is because at that range, with high FPS, BB's can easily break skin and cause damage.

Looks like it was within 20 feet to me. That kid is probably in a lot of pain.

The rest are annoying little kids that don't call hits, operator wannabe neckbeards, or total tryhards that don't respect the spirit of the game and just run around spraying with ultra high-RPM guns. It's SC Village, east of LA. I recognized it as soon as I saw the old helos and you can see the name on the ref's shirts.

It's a horrible place to play airsoft unless you get lucky and go on a day when it's not busy and full of little kids. The refs are actually really chill and the fields themselves are decent, but it's usually massively overcrowded and full of chucklefucks.

The thing that makes it even worse is that, for some reason I don't quite understand but that's well backed-up, BBs shot out of P*s carry velocity for longer after being fired, so a 400FPS P* has more range than a 400FPS AEG. It's crazy when you're in cover that's taking fire from a bunch of guys that are all in one spot and one guy has a P*, you can hear how much harder the P* BBs are hitting.

Somebody else mentioned it, but another major issue with Polarstars is the fact that you can adjust FPS on the field by changing the air pressure. Regulators have a "tournament lock", which refs can stick a ziptie through to keep players from adjusting them after chrono, but a lot of fields don't bother, and almost none check to make sure that players don't just cut the ziptie off after chrono.

I don't remember the last time I went to a big public field and didn't see at least one P* user get kicked out for turning his FPS up, and a lot of fields (including the one in OP's video, IIRC) have actually banned P*s or made it so they're only allowed in P* only games.

Yeah, it actually is a lot of fun when bad players aren't ruining it.

I think the best way of looking at airsoft is to treat it as a real-life version of an unrealistic but realistic-looking shooter like Battlefield or CS, not as any kind of simulation of real combat. It's fun if you frame it that way and find other people who treat it the same way too.

It's really much more of a game about movement and team coordination than one about shooting.

Part of why Polarstars fuck the game up so badly is because they break the "meta" of the game, especially because fields aren't designed to accommodate them. It's basically the equivalent of when the machine gun was introduced into real warfare, it gives a single player way too much power to shut a wide area of the field down.

I've been thinking of buying a gas blowback rifle and only playing on GBB games/days at fields. They're more fun to use, kids don't have them because they're expensive and high maintenance, and tryhards don't have them because they're "underpowered" compared to AEGs and P*s. (Lower rates of fire and much less magazine capacity.)

Not everyone who uses a high pressure air gun abuses it like in op's clip and that video. The rate of fire could be set from anywhere from 1 to about 70 (in both clips its at about 25 to 30) balls a seconded. Its feilds (mostly in california) that dont enforce rate of fire rules that spawn videos like this with 16 year olds abuseing the a system and making it looks bad. Most people who use HPA guns (outside of the California community) are pretty honest people and 90% of the people bitching and moan about them need to get good and love to go on huge rants online about it.

Yeah, I've run into plenty of decent players with them, but they're just so open to abuse that they tend to get abused around here.

SC is the absolute worst. Their main field (Viper) is long, narrow, and has a hill with an "embassy" building on it at one end. If you're on that hill, you can see half of the field. With an AEG, most of it is out of practical range, but HPA guns carry so much energy at range and can spray so many BBs that guys can just sit up on the hill with a box mag and blast anybody who pops out for a second.
