Kurt Vonnegut separated from his wife because he couldn't ever accept the possibility of a God, and his wife was devoted to her theistic Christian faith. But he, like somebody like Thomas Jefferson, looked to Christ as sort of a model for human behavior and western values.

I think my biggest problem is that anybody I can ever meet who identifies as a Christian is either just lukewarm and thus might as well not even identify that way, strictly theistic and not very humanitarian-thinking (what I see as true Christianity), or just an atheist who is 9/10 times an unrepentant hedonist without any convictions.
