work from 9 to 5 today spent my time reading through PHD papers which model cutting forces on machining operations. im trying to find a way to get this FORTRAN program which predicts the thrust and torque experienced by twist drills to use specific cutting forces instead of a material data bank for force calculations; progress is slow and boring im also coming down from the flu so it doesn't help

It's pretty appalling that people still use FORTRAN, though it seems like the only serious alternative for heavy numerics is Numpy, which is also appalling. Though when I still did numeric computation I used GNU Scientific Library, so who knows.

the FORTRAN code im trying to modify is from a thesis paper from the mid 90s which borrows heavily of a thesis paper from the mid 80s so im basically stuck using FORTRAN 77 unless i want to re do the whole program in python, its not that bad but the 72 column limit is kind of annoying
