>currently on a university sponsored work experience in China
>company is owned by the state
>company is making me and my coworkers, all foreign, develop a data mining app
>exact instructions were to ignore any privacy concerns and do whatever it takes
>literally cannot say no
Do I go ahead with it robots?
Please don't do it. you are making a world shittier place. remember the responsibility is not only on your bosses but on you too, not only leave the job, but raise the public awareness too about it. if you do this some decades later our offspring will curse you cause they will have zero privacy, thanks to people like you. (took the bait don't care)
Don't be a fucking retard
Who gives afuck about people's rights?
Don't be a pussy, you latch onto the government and it will take you far above where any of these faggots are
Abandon your moral principals and you'll do well
I spent 6 weeks in Syria training their police how to crack down on dissidents.
If you don't do it, whats stopping them from getting someone else to?
Change can't be made at that level effectively enough to make it worth risking your future career or future in general. Just do what they ask imo.
Still against that shit in general though.
make it, but make it so when it finally goes live it self destructs.
Computational Bugging, Mass Surveillance, I spent a few years in the Italian "cyber police"
I also taught about torture tactics but that's just because I learned from some Ukrainians.
This was back in 2010 actually, so it was before. They contacted me last year saying they'd hire me again for prisoner interrogation and I'm just waiting back on them confirming my salary.
The torture honestly isn't that bad, what I taught was that it was only effective when you had prior intel that they knew what you're interrogating for, then I'd say use electric shocks. There are excesses but if you think this man could wake up the next day and blow up your kid's school people will do drastic things.
>I'm just waiting back on them confirming my salary
How could they afford to pay you more than minimum wage in the US? The GDP per capita was $6000 before the fucking war. Must be about $1200 or so now. Literally African-Tier.
Sounds like you're going to get a bad deal.
They'll pay large amounts for foreign trained operatives because they know it deminishes costs in the long term. The Syrians are really smart in that they recorded everything I did, taught and even read.
Plus the Iranians and Russians are helping out now with procurements. There are like 200+ ex SF operators training Syrian SF
Must be really cool to still have a chance to visit Damascus. I thought about going to beirut and then getting a cab to Syria's capital and coming back in the same day but I'm too scared to do it without speaking arabic
you can hire one of the locals, there are a lot of unemployed there who speak english
it's worth seeing, it's one of the most beautiful places in the world and it's a lot safer than the media would have you believe
>it's worth seeing, it's one of the most beautiful places in the world and it's a lot safer than the media would have you believe
Yeah, I'm aware that it's pretty safe, but I don't know man. Being a skinny 20 years old boy travelling alone to fucking Damascus brings this fear in me that in any moment a soldier in a checkpoint can decide to screw me up for not believing that I'm going there for tourism, and then send me to interrogation
This, but only if you want to die a hero. Do the project, but document yourself and your coworkers doing it. Record audio, video, whatever it takes to expose them to the fullest. Make sure it's discrete, while even though it's completely legal, the state will do anything in the world to make sure this shit doesn't go out to the public, including lawsuits, harassment, even assassination (Docs on China from Wikileaks confirm these attacks). From then on, you have a multitude of options. If you want to keep your life, don't release it. Otherwise, spread it like wildfire. Inform news outlets and journalists, especially ones that documented Snowden. Anonymity is optional if you don't want to be recognized immediately. It would be recommended since you'll have the protection of the media to cover you.
Don't fuck this up, OP. I had an Apple internship back in my college days and we did some shady shit, too. I still have recordings of one of the executives throwing a fit because some guy spilled his pen cup.
Good luck, and congrats on being a potential firestarter for WW3.
The company and state WILL know it's you, anonymity when leaking or not. State your name in the releasing of the files you've made. Use the media to your advantage. Once the lawsuits and harassment comes in, record them to. Use the recordings to stay relevant as long as possible. Once your fifteen minutes of fame is over, escape. Run. They will find you, and they will hurt you using any means, including hurting your friends and family. I don't blame you if you think it isn't worth it, but if you don't do this, somebody else will, probably by mistake and unprepared. You have better odds, use them.
Stay paranoid. Stick to a single strategy when running. If you decide to go West, keep going West. Never stop. When you decide you've had enough running, they'll be there when you finish. They have unlimited persistence for you due to funds, and unless you also do, you're going to make you hurt when you stop running.
This is an opportunity of a lifetime, isn't it? What you've gone to college for? It's not pretty, I know, but it's still better than keeping this shit in your head knowing you did nothing to help your victims afterwards.
Addendum pt. 2
Sorry, but I know a lot about this and I don't get to use it very much.
Some things you'll need to do to delay the inevitable:
Delete any social media accounts involving personal life, including Facebook, MySpace, VK, whatever. Keep Twitter and Instagram for added media relevance, but delete those as soon as your fame is over.
Learn how to blend in if you're wanting to stay in big urban areas. The bigger the city, the harder to find. Use cash for purchases. Stay in different apartments each 2 years. Change your hairstyle and appearance now in then, at least before you renew your driver's license with the updated picture. Get fatter and skinnier, grow your hair taller and shorter. Even changing your voice will help. If you're short on money, change jobs at fast food joints every 2 to 3 years. Don't worry about putting it on the next job's resume, the employers are fine with that timescale and will work with you accordingly.
If worse comes to worse and you're 100% sure they're on your ass too close, believe it or not, museums are your best bet. The guards there have more police reinforcement than anyone, so if you "accidentally" break some glass while somebody reaches for their pistol, the alarms will go off and you'll be escorted out while the assassin probably gets arrested. If they spill anything about China in court, report it anonymously to the media since they're sick of your name now.
Some other stuff is simple. Use public transportation, carbombs are a bitch. Learn mental toughness, discipline, and durability. You're running, aren't you? Improve your cardio, then. Always watch your back, but look forward and above, too. Sniper perches are most commonly found with the target either coming for you or going away from you.
Your family will drag you down and make yourself easier to get caught if you want to get them along for the run, too. It would be best to forget them, sadly.
That's it for me. Good luck. I'm going to bed.
Fair point desu.
I mean you're in China and you are presumably white. Unless you're really short or ugly you're basically a god over there.
I went over there for my brother's wedding and was told that I was handsome by literally every second girl.
Live it up man.
