I don't think anyone gets a tablet if they aren't already an artist. And if you want to color stuff I think it's a good investment, since paint can get really expensive. But yeah, if you're just starting out, stick to paper and pencil.

I'd make little flash animations for each of them (more detailed) but... Actually, I don't know why I don't just do it. The thick lines + vectoring makes it simple enough to do with a mouse without needing that much excessive detail.

I used to have fun with MS Paint and my mouse. Once I got a tablet and tried getting serious, it sucked all of the joy out of it. I was too critical of my own work and couldn't enjoy the process of drawing when I was so caught up in how the finished product would look. When I look back on everything I drew with my tablet, I am filled with regret that I couldn't make things better. When I look back on the shit I quickly did in MS Paint for fun, I can happily reminisce.

Personally I use Krita. Both have a good brush engine, but Krita has more editing capabilities and more versatility in general. It's also free, so there's no need for piracy. SAI is great to start with though, I used it for years. I still love its wet brushes. If you're new to digital art, definitely go with SAI, it's relatively simple to figure out how to use but it's totally viable for digital painting.

Yeah man. I was in the same boat. Following this thread, I looked into Paint Tool Sai. It has a Stabilizer feature, which essentially allows you to make straight lines and good curves with a jittery hand.

Just downloaded it and am fucking impressed. Try it out - it's a world of difference.

For 30 bucks, you're better off checking Ebay for an old Wacom Graphire or Intuos. Wacom is the industry standard - all other tablets have bullshit issues. I'm been using a Graphire 4 for more than a decade with no problems, except for the fact that it's outdated as fuck.
