It's a meme created by people who watch almost no anime. I mean the sort of people who only watch an anime when it airs on American TV and everyone is talking about it. Or even if they stream anime they only do it when everyone is talking about it (e.g. One Punch Man). They don't look at season charts and don't even know what those are. They don't know what anime is really airing.

And they don't understand the limits of their own knowledge. They somehow pieced together, from their very limited knowledge and observations, the idea that anime used to be nothing but Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Akira and Dragon Ball Z (i.e. the only anime they saw) until "moeshit" came along and took everything over. They are also only able to think of anime as being one thing, and not comprised of many different kinds of works like live action cinema and television. Their complaints make as much sense as saying that American cinema has been ruined by capeshit and nothing else is being made anymore.

They've also never actually seen any "moe" anime, and have only a vague, and often incorrect, idea of what it entails. They jump to conclusions easily and just accuse anything and everything of being "moeshit" if it has girls in it and a color palette that isn't grey and brown.

I've seen a few SoL anime, they weren't my thing. Sora No Woto was kinda fun since I was a tanker but the whole 14 year old cuts girls element didn't interest me, I probably would have loved it if the cast were guys though.

I guess my problem with SoL/moe anime is that all the ones I hear about are about little girls, little girls don't interest me.
