This is bait guys

There is no correct answer because the question is written poorly

It can be either 2 or 288

This is why we either use nominator/denominator form or put brackets were they are needed

There is no correct answer for this question~~doesnt change the fact that this will still get 300 replies~~

>>

i don't know what the brackets mean but i'm going to assume it means 48 divided by 2 is 24 plus 12 = 32

>>

>>25719112

In school we were taught that no brackets implies multiplication.

>>

>>25719151

i would personally interpret the brackets with a number beside it as an implicit multiplication symbol

this would give 288, and seems to me like the reasonable way to go

and like >>25719173 said, this is how i was taught

>>

>>25719173

You were taught wrong

the order of operations is BEDMAS (or ped pod bod ect.) but neither division or multiplication take priority over eachother

If there are no brackets it is impossible to tell what the order of operations is meant to be

Using numerator and denominator form fixes this issue, that is why you will never see a division sign past primary school

>>

>>25718903

The answer is 2.

Although I'm pretty sure this is a troll thread. I fail to see any correlation between this and Autism Spectrum Disorder. If anything, those on the Spectrum would be more likely to correctly complete math problems then Neurotypicals.

>>

It's supposed to immediately be rewritten as 48/2(9+3) therefore the answer is 2.

division and multiplication are distributive or w/e so they can be done in any order.

48/2(9+3)

48/2(12)

48/24

2

or,

48/2(12)

48*(1/24)

Your teacher was shit. My teacher said that they can be done in any order because of the distributive property, same with addition and subtraction.

>>

>>25718903

Parenthesis first and then all operations from left to right (since there are no subtractions or sums). 24*12 as the final answer

If you disagree you fail at math.

>>

To all the idiots getting it wrong: division and multiplication are the same thing. Multiplication is also commutative.

It's:

48 * 0.5 * 12

Because there are no parenthesis putting everything in the denominator. If there were, it would be a different thing.

>>

>>25718903

48 / 2(9+3) = 48 / 2(12)

48 / 2(12) = 24(12) = 288

Despite what PEMDAS (or BEDMAS if you're a yuropoor) tells you, division and multiplication have the same order of precedence. So when you evaluate an expression, you evaluate left to right and whichever operation comes first (in terms of division/multiplication) you evaluate first and proceed likewise. The same goes for addition and subtraction.

The reason is that division is the opposite of multiplication and subtraction the opposite of addition. Or, you can think of division as multiplication by a fraction and subtraction as addition of a negative number.

>>

>>25721752

>>25721939

another way to write this is 48 / 2 * (9+3) which becomes 48 / 2 * 12 and because you always go left to right with equal ordered operations it becomes 24 * 12

>yes I know I failed the test and have autism

>>

288 even a chimp could've solve it

>>

>>25718903

It is a complicated question, following PEMDAS it should be solved in a certain way, however, it is not taking into account what was probably meant by the person writing it.

48/2(9+3)=

Now, we could solve it using pemdas, or using a linear reading from left to right. This case PEMDAS is wrong to use. As 2 is part of (9+3). And 48 is part of 2. So you can't use PEMDAS. Because then you would magically create New values. Think of it as a text assignment, how would it be written?

>48 / 2 * (9+3) which becomes 48 / 2 * 12 and because you always go left to right with equal ordered operations it becomes 24 * 12

holy shit you're completely fucking retarded. halving 48 with the 2 in the denominator doesn't mean you magically don't have to divide anymore.

it becomes 24/12 = 2 you stupid twit

>>

>288

easy as pie

>>

You posted in /r9k/ you don't even need that test to show that your autism levels are very high

>>

288fags are angry hyper-autist faggots.

But it is actually 288. Because multiplication and division, like addition and subtraction, technically happen at the same time in the order of operations. Yes, I know your math teachers didn't tell you that, but really, what do you expect? The withheld the truth about the very existence negative numbers until what? Sixth grade?

The lesson here: Never trust a math teacher, and even though 288 is the right answer, it's also the one that proves you're autistic.

>>

>>25724110

you re wrong,

its about what rules you use to solve this,

normal pemdas is 288 but in other rules

2(9 + 3) is treated like (2 * (9 + 3))

>>
