No one on my father's side of the family was ever able to grow an awesome beard.

On my mother's side of the family it was literally impossible for any of the males to grow a significant amount of facial hair because my mother's side is Native American I'm either half or 1/4 Native, can't remember, but it's enough for me to be a member of the tribe and receive tribal benefits.

In other words, I got fucked by genetics in terms of facial hair, and in general as well. All I can grow is a dirt/creeper/Michael Cera stache and a few hairs on my chin and jawline.

This is literally the reason moustache wax exists.

If you don't have access to that, look in the haircare section of Wal-Mart. You'll find a number of pomades and oils that are used to tame beards and moustaches. Find one that you like the scent of, or pick up some easy-to-find Axe pomade and put a little(JUST A LITTLE!) into your moustache.

Then you can use a comb or your fingers to shape it. This was the secret behind moustaches for most of the past 200 years when you weren't doing a pencil 'stache, a stubble moustache, or a big, bushy type.

This will of course necessitate you washing and conditioning your moustache regularly, just like you would your hair. But you should use cold water, not warm water to clean your moustache and beard, or you'll strip the oils off it, and it'll get all frizzy.

My fathers side cant grow beards very well. The guys on my mothers side can though.
Mustache doesnt connect, no hair at all on my philtrum. Bald patch on left jawline. Very little hair under bottom lip. Curly as hell so it grows outward and looks like pube hair, hair under jawline grows much fuller and looks weird.
